Hello,

I am still a student and would like to enquire whether is it suitable to get a proton savvy (manual) for around that budget? Year of the car is around 2007-2009

Let's just say the car is in a good condition and stuff like that? How much will the maintenance fees cost?

My budget for a car is around rm 10000-15000 and I would love to get a car which suits my needs.

1) I am studying in perak and based in kl
2) I would only drive back to kl once in 4-5 months.
3) Will drive around alot in perak area.
4) Is it troublesome to get a service maintenance in perak?

If not, what other cars should i get? Please rule out kelisa, viva and kenari. Thanks smile.gif

If can get a good car, probably i can top till rm20000.

if want to find reliable car go for kelisa...parts everywhere..

savvy is a renault....parts a bit expensive..such as timing belt..sensor..and etc..and need to find a good mechanic..but if you love it, why not? go for it..summore manual should not be much problem...

Hi, bro

Savvy has been outdated car & maintenance service quite expansive & the water condenssor only allow using battery water.

If you don't mind of kelisa or viva got more 2nd hand value.

oil filter share same with proton waja

replaceable air filter rm18-20 ,

wheel bearing share same with aveo ,

plug cable + distributor , comes together just rm180 .

not worth it if you ask around, even proton themselves have been critical of the low quality control over the car, many lemons out there. but you may get a great one, who knows...

if you can find a good condition manual savvy, just go for it

kelisa/kenari/viva vs savvy

---the cost of changing kelisa/kenari/viva engine mounting wont justify the total cost of maintaining savvy,
--- savvy has solid body (use high tensile steel)
--- savvy can change to 4e-fte engine (sleeper car)

TS is wise to rule out kelisa/kenari/viva

Added on December 18, 2012, 9:44 amother than savvy manual, id recommend wira se manual (one with all disc brakes)

Don't go for proton second hand cars. They have really bad disc brakes. I spent like 5k on the disc brake, my car still skids and don't break too well.

what did you fix that cost you 5k?

frm what i know, for any cars the only brake parts that need occasional change either brake pads/shoes or brake rotors

poton brake pads cost <100
and last i check poton brake rotor also cost ~100 for a pair

Well said.. When someone don't own the car.. they just listen to some bawah pokok mech and rule out.. oh service savvy ah? very expensive one.. The problem is that the mech himself had never service one before perhaps. Though I'm not driving my savvy anymore but to be honest at that price... The CAR is WELL worth it.. Not for the AMT though.

even i sold off my savvy, but i still miss the car so much.
the handling, the fuel consumption, the safety, the cheap maintenance.
the reason i sold off is because i choose the wrong transmission and it start occurred problem when it comes to 5 years old.

I do that everyday when i was driving my savvy. With the ABS I always get to brake on time and after changing the braking system it was as good as new. You can laugh all the way you want but for someone who said he spent RM5k? I just gotta lol hard. You think you are getting a pair of brembo slotted disc and calippers? hahahaha

You look even more stupid. You must be BS all the way.

I am talking about 12 years of continual repairs on my wira. Not one shot repair.
