I have always wanted an all-in-one device that can also take handwritten notes. That is why I always wanted the tablet form factor to come down in price during the x86 days. Well, it took ARM to beat the shit out of the pricing so now it's a lot more affordable but still pricey.

So before I got the Note1, I trawled the net looking for a worthy successor to my Nokia N8 at the time. In fact I had almost resigned myself to get an S2 that almost met my requirements. I did not consider anything that had no expandable storage nor removable battery, and just didn't get why you needed to sacrifice functionality in the name of aesthetics. That is another long story in itself...

When I was about to make my purchase, whispers of a 5.3" device with an ACTIVE DIGITIZER came, and I watched and waited. Nexus was also about to launch at the time. I read ALL the reviews of Note and Nexus... then made a rational decision based on my own requirements instead of hype of the new shiny by HTC/LG/Moto etc etc.

I had no bias prior to getting Note1 (of course I was biased against crapple but that's fundamental) and I still read reviews of many devices to understand it and consider if it's a worthy successor to Note 2 now.

So, I would think people are completely taken in by the "new shiny oooh" spouted by marketers all the time without giving rational thought as to why they want to get it.

I remember there was the WTO meeting in Seattle in 2006 or 2007....the protesters held placards with the words "Give us back our brains" ie dont spin too much BS to influence us with bias....

I'm familiar with the general concepts of this method and occasionally muck around with bootable linux USB sticks for kicks. Tails is just a customized linux to erase stuff securely and https by default.

If your card is 64Gb or MORE....exfat or NTFS. Note2 stock rom recognizes exfat. NTFS needs some kernel module IINM.

What is the size of your card? If it's less than 64gb windows will format is as fat32. Unless your card has developed a problem.

If you format it in your phone I think it will also default based on size, <64 is fat32, >=64 is exfat

Oh yeah, @ccgenius reply, if you are on XP, you will need the SDXC driver update. It should be built in on Win7 and later.

And also, some readers DO NOT support exfat even after the SDXC update.

What is your OS and card reader model? Do a search to see if it supports. I bought my Transcend card reader about 5 years ago and it supports exfat read and format on my 64gb card under Win7.

Ah, video recording...standard feature in ANY phone nowadays. Do pardon my light rant... I mean, it's been a feature of camera phones since...2004???? iphone came mid 2007? How much more screen on time or extended overall standby do you get from your UV exercise? If less than 15%, IMHO not worth the time to do it since I charge my phone every night.

I posted earlier that Note2 handles NFS:MW with cores at 1GHz and it's not even breaking a sweat.

ROM Manager has some incompatibilities with CWM if you read some of chainfire's posts on Note1

Use CWM to make a nandroid backup of your rom then uninstall ROM Manager. Read up a bit more on chainfire's posts then you can have some peace of mind.

I've not used ROM Manager from day 1 coz I read the CWM posts before doing stuff back in Note1 days.

If you're paranoid, use CWM to perform a full and complete clean (cache, dalvik, factory reset) and flash in a new rom. Of coz please download the rom to your sd card first. Or maybe use PC Odin, caveat is that read a bit more first.

Data mining I don't know, maybe if you wrote an app for it as a front end to your data warehouse engine you could.

There are MS OFfice compatible apps you could use, but it will be difficult to work on the small screen without HDMI output to a large monitor, with a keyboard and mouse.

Since I think you're a grad student with a programming/compsci curriculum, we invite you to try and provide us some data points for our conjecture.
