The parallel lines and the two unknowns x & y are designed to trick you into believing that you need 2 equations to be solved simultaneously in order to find the values of x & y. However, only one equation involving x & y can be formulated.

Sum of Interior Angles of a Heptagon = (7−2) × 180° = 900°

(x + y) + y + y + 2x = 900° − 120° − 172° − 48° − 98°

3 * (x + y) = 462°

Need any shorter? hmm.gif

Wow , didn't think of that , at all .

I did it this way , forming two equations :

I was scratching my head , thinking to myself , how do the parallel lines help in any way ? It's strange that SPM Maths would include distractors in the questions , most of the time the information provided are to help students get to the solution . This is from the July Paper , 2013 .

This is more of a IQ question than a math problem. In fact, your workings are necessary to determine x and y individually. However, always use the fundamental laws and principles. You will know they are not sufficient if the solution cannot be found. And don't be misled into believing most SPM math problems are direct. So, tune up your mentality. icon_idea.gif

I'll stick to the bolded parts . Thank you . smile.gif

It is hard to find real SPM papers in the internet. Also, there isn't any answer if got.

I bought the Sasbadi one last year, so I don't have 2012 papers.

Photocopy from your friends if possible . Real SPM Papers aren't usually uploaded online .

How do you all study for Bio? Basically, I still find it hard to get A+ for this subject and I dont want it to ruin my trial results. Any great ideas will be appreciated.
*
I'll love a detailed response too , but most seniors say the same stuff : Read and memorise . Memorise answer schemes , especially for essay .

I'd normally read , understand , and then try to remember the points by drawing / writing them out on a piece of paper using coloured pens ( I'm a visual learner , I need coloured diagrams ) . And then exercises , then look at the answers .

So far it had been good -- for the first time , I got an A+ for Biology mid-term exam .

But is this enough for the trials ? I'm afraid not . unsure.gif
Because I haven't touched a Biology book for months , and I'm rusty . And there's one whole Reproduction chapter left untouched .

Bio, you must understand it.

If simply memories later might mix up.

What's your average score for Biology ?

Here's an interesting question for you to try out :

Given that the number of ways of selecting 2 objects from "n" different objects is 10, find the number of "n".

Does any of you have We Chat or something along the lines ? It'll be easier to ask questions , maybe we could have a group or something , if you don't mind disclosing your ID .

Thanks for the sharing. I will use the two weeks holiday to concentrate on my science subjects esp. Bio and Chm.

Apparently, my teacher also suggested that we read the answers at the back of the past year questions book. Guess that is one good way since they only accept answers listed in the marking scheme.

So far, I've only scored A+ for Bio once. It will be a long battle.  rolleyes.gif

For me? OK! wink.gif According to k-combinations, C = 10; k = 2; n = ?

So , the (n-2)(n-3) ... (3)(2)(1) at the numerator cancels with (n-2)! below ? hmm.gif

Interesting . I was thinking how to manipulate n! , forgot about the general case , n! = n(n-1)(n-2) ... 3x2x1 .

Then , How About Comparison Questions ? Should We First Compare both of it lines by lines or 1st paragraph explaining all aspects for 1st thing the other paragraph for the 2nd thing ? Or draw Tables For it ? ( for Chem , Bio , Phy ) ? hmm.gif !
*
I don't think there would be comparison ( essay ) questions in Physics . For modification and choosing the best design essay questions , I would always draw tables .

For Biology , you can draw tables . For Chemistry , I would compare one point at a time , in separate paragraphs .

I have a hard time with the Redox chapter. Just wondering is it the hardest topic in Chemistry?
*
People say it's Salts . Some say Carbon Compounds and Redox are equally hard . For me , both came pretty naturally . I finished Redox in a couple of days and Carbon Compounds in a week without a teacher ( during the holidays , I didn't want to waste time ) . So they are pretty manageable . So far I'm done with Chemistry , I'm quite relieved .

Trigonometric Functions caused some problems ( trigonometric identities part ) . blush.gif

Earth as a Sphere took long for me to master too . I guess everyone has different set of problems . biggrin.gif

[1stparagraph] Atom r is stable . It Has 2 valence electron . and bla bla bla

By the way , for Moral : A Guru Cemerlang said that you musn't repeat the CONTOH/HURAIAN in Moral essay , and you must think of new ideas for C/H , and you cannot take from the situasi .

Is this how your teacher taught you ?
