Singapore Requests Sale of 100 AIM-120C7 AMRAAM and 20 AIM-9X-2 Air-to-Air Missiles

Singapore Requests Sale of  100 AIM-120C7 AMRAAM Air-to-Air Missiles

WASHINGTON – The Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress April 3 of a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Government of the Republic of Singapore for 100 AIM-120C7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support for an estimated cost of $210 million.

The Government of Singapore has requested a possible sale of 100 AIM-120C7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM), AMRAAM Programmable Advanced System Interface Simulator (PASIS), 10 AMRAAM Spare Guidance Sections, 18 AN/AVS-9(V) Night Vision Goggles, H-764G with GEM V Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module (SAASM), Common Munitions Built-in -Test Reprogramming Equipment (CMBRE-Plus) in support of a Direct Commercial Sale of new F -15SG aircraft. Also included: containers, spare and repair parts, support equipment, tools and test equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, U.S. Government and contractor engineering, logistics, and technical support services, and other related elements of logistics and program support. The estimated cost is $210 million.

This proposed sale will contribute to the foreign policy and national security of the United States by increasing the ability of the Republic of Singapore to contribute to regional security. Its contributions to counter-piracy and counterterrorism efforts continue to stabilize a critical chokepoint where much of the world’s goods and services transit en route to and from the Asia Pacific region. The proposed sale will improve the security of a strategic partner which has been, and continues to be, an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Asia Pacific region. Specifically, this proposed sale will improve the Republic of Singapore Air Force’s (RSAF) air to air capability and ability to defend its nation and cooperate with allied air forces

The Republic of Singapore requires these missiles to meet current and future threats of enemy aircraft. Singapore is procuring, via Direct Commercial Sale, new F-15SG aircraft. The proposed sale will enhance RSAF’s ability to operate with coalition forces in bilateral and multilateral exercises and potential air defense operations. Singapore will use these capabilities as a deterrent to regional threats and to strengthen its homeland defense. Singapore will have no difficulty absorbing the AIM-120C7s into its armed forces.

The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region.

The prime contractors will be Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Arizona; Honeywell Aerospace in Phoenix, Arizona; ITT Night Vision in Roanoke, Virginia; and ATK Defense Electronic Systems in Clearwater, Florida.

There are no known offset agreements proposed in connection with this potential sale.

Implementation of this proposed sale will not require the assignment of any additional U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Singapore.

There will be no adverse impact on U.S. defense readiness as a result of this proposed sale.

This notice of a potential sale is required by law and does not mean the sale has been concluded.

sosej

I wonder which AIM-9 model is that.

As for the AIM-120C, I think I remember that we're using the C5 version of it.

... Looking at the covers of the missiles, those are actual live ammo aren't they?

The Jernas is also very agile even if it's meant for targets flying as low as 3000m and are almost 7000m away from the launcher. Britain still uses these SAMs till today, although they're looking to replace it within 2020 with a further development of the ASRAAM.

And yep, we do need a medium-range SAM to complete the gap.
I hope it's not something like "You come and buy our Super Hornets first then only you can get them... lah" whistling.gif

actually we already brought the aim-9x block2 follow by our hornet upgrade.
delivery date not very sure have to look back at the dcsa announcement.

I dun think the problem is in the hidden T&C but due too many tech restriction by the US.
we wanted them to loosen the restriction. especially their weapons package.
the current administration are much more less restrictive compare to bush. biggrin.gif

LIMA 2013: UTM Signed Agreement With BAe Systems

user posted image

The Malaysia University of Technology (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia- UTM) and BAe Systems has signed a non disclosure agreement (NDA) to embark on academic and research collaboration, as well as student and staff engagement.

The collaboration is part of UTM’s drive to enhance linkages with the industry. This is in line with UTM’s current position as a premier graduate-focused research university in engineering and technology in the country, with more than 4,400 PhD students in 2012, which is top ten in the world in terms of PhD student enrollment.

The agreement was signed by Dr Zaini Ujang on behalf of UTM and BAe Systems was represented by its Business Development director, Mark Parkinson at LIMA 2013.

This cooperation is also significant as BAe Systems is a high-tech company related to defenses, aerospace and security systems, with associated training and support requirements useful for the UTM programme in industrial leadership development.

SMEA Produces Pylon For Saudi’s Hawks

As part of the offset program for the procurement of 28 Hawk Mk 108/208 for the RMAF in the 1990′s, SME Aerospace (SMEA) has been integrated by BAe Systems into its supply chain network whereby the Malaysian company is contracted to produce weapon’s pylon for the latter’s globally popular Hawk advanced jet trainers.

BAe Systems said that over 300 pylons have manufactured in Malaysia by SMEA for global operators which include India, Indonesia, Australia and many more.
QUOTE
SMEA’s Hawk Pylon
Since 1997, Malaysia’s SME Aerospace (SMEA) has been the main supplier of BAe System’s Hawk’s pylon for worldwide market. On October 2003, it was announced that SMEA will be awarded with RM 70 million worth of contract for the manufacturing and supply of the jet trainer’s pylon for the use of the IAF and RAF. Both countries at that time were in the process of acquiring the most up-to-date version of the aircraft known respectively as the Hawk Mk 132 AJT (Advance Jet Trainer) and the Hawk T Mk 2. Nevertheless, it was not known whether the Malaysian company did get the job as no subsequent report nor announcements were made afterwards.

Nevertheless, demands for such may be aplenty in the future as BAe System and its American partner, the Northrop Grumman is currently bidding for the lucrative USAF contract resulted from the T-X program which envisages the replacement of its veteran T-38 Talon jet trainer with 350 new types of aircraft. As part of its marketing effort to further promote its Hawk jet trainer, the company has brought along two of its latest Hawk T Mk2 variant drawn from RAF active squadron to the US as part of its demonstration tours across the US which ended last October.

The new Hawk variant dubbed the AJTS (Advanced Jet Training System) will compete head on against KAI/Lockheed Martin T-50 Golden Eagle, which was developed using South Korea’s technology with its KF-16 Falcon and Alenia M-346 Master (to be rebranded as T-100 Integrated Training System) for the lucrative contract. Such stiff competition echoes a similar competition in 1980’s for the then USAF JPATS trainer program.  Seven main contenders including Beechcraft, Cessna, Lockheed, Northrop, Grumman, Rockwell and Vought were pitted against each other in order to win the lucrative contract. Nevertheless, the USAF has chosen the PC-9 derivative now known as the the T-6 Texan II.

Should USAF chose the AJTS over other competitors, it will follow suit its sister branch, the USN in which 214 T-45 Goshawk are currently in service with them on various training squadrons.

Further far east, the IAF is mulling on more Hawks for its Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) in which 20 is in the pipeline. As demands for IAF’s existing Hawk AJT within its training squadrons is at its high and HAL has already had its hand full with two batches of the aircraft’s final assembly of 66 and 57 aircraft respectively, the third batch (it is presumed) might be possibly comes from BAe System’s production line.

BAe Systems had also being successful in marketing the new generation Hawk AJT in Oman where eight of them along with 12 Eurofighter Typhoon will be delivered to the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) in the future. The AJTs will be boosting RAFO’s current Hawk Mk 103/203 fleet of 15 aircraft.

A variant of Hawk T Mk 2 is currently being offered to the USAF as a possible candidate to replace the Northrop T-38 Talon, 459 of which have been procured since 1961. Should the Hawk is successful in its bid in America, could this means that Malaysian made pylon would be flying high over the American skies? Hmmm..this could be very interesting..

PAS tak buat kerja rumah ke tak baik menfitnah tau.
haiya kenapa boustead terpilih. jawapannya senang aje.
sebab contract.
PSC bukan gagal nak membina 27buah itu. tapi kerajaan tak pernah membuat pembelian 27 buah sekali gus tapi berperinkat 6units setiap kali.
pada zaman PSC kerajaan telah singed a contract for 27units.
Kerajaan masih terikat ngan perjanjian itu sampai sekarang walaupun boustead telah takeover PSC.

buying asset also very depend on how many ppl you are going to train to use it, budget on maintenance, support facility.
sure we can spend money to buy few hundred su-30mkm. but do we have the means to operate that much?
do we have enough pilots to operates it? how many AFB we are going to upgrade to operates the mkm? how many support crew the mkm fleet were needed?
and the list goes on.
