Hi jimmy, we are on the same skeptical boat here. I'm currently considering 2 options. 2011/12 Insight or 2010/11 City. Both price around the same which is below 50k.
Currently still doing research on the hybrid IMA. I read the batteries can be done DIY method. so far I read about insight vs prius is insight is a fuel car assisted by electric; prius the other way round. So if the battery is dead, insight still can be driven around but not the prius.
Do correct me if I'm wrong.
prius battery much more expensive than insight and yes, insight no battery can move, like a normal car with 1.3l engine , prius cannot move without battery but not much reported case of insight with bad battery.
insight maintenance is quite expensive if done in SC esp 40k, 80k and 100k due to fuel strainer replacement every 40k and plug replacement every 100k. some of members here already service outside.. quite ok if you can find those capable and have the necessary parts.
prius is bigger in sense and if you could save more fuel if you know how to drive it well, insight, u just drive it. either way u drive it, you still save than normal car.
prius C is a no-no, very cramp for me. although insight is not much bigger, at least bigger boot.
prius second is a bit more expensive than insight.
if compare insight and city, not much different except 1 CBU 1 CKD.
