Bro, if you refer to playback movies from local HDD in XBMC, then you use the wrong player already. Himedia strength is supporting wide range of audio and video codec, local playback should use Himedia native player as mentioned by AFVAN. XBMC is not the right player to play local movies because it does not have Hisilicon codec acceleration. Please use XBMC for online streaming and Live TV.
*
the native player is excellent. handles everything nicely, incl iso n bdmv playlists, chapter lists correctly.

i hv tried mx player, XBMC player and a couple, more....none are as good.

bro, i already uninstalled xbmc, replace with kodi media center, but still dont have live tv too, pls advise...tq. smile.gif
*
r u nicety's customer?
if u bought from other seller, best to get the seller's help.
xbmc or kodi can be a real b**** if u dun know how.

anyway, for bbts livetv, i suggest u read and watch the suggested videos mentioned in posts #910-939 xbmc-kodi thread at least.
u can tell from the posts some users struggled with it but got it in the end.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3139601/+900

i assure u q5ii or q16 (and by inference, q5iii) can take kodi 14.0 helix beta2 or beta3, have bbts live tv working.
looking forward to epl live matches this sat on skysports 1 and 5. wink.gif

This is the second time since September. Out of quota of China  traffic. Really terrible service.
*
this, i believe is the root problem.

unifi's explanation "we r seeing increase in china traffic" = the bandwidth they paid for is too small but seems reluctant to get more, pay more. if that is true, then users paying for 20mbps or higher for china sites will just be wasting money...

ahh.. i was thinking why all my china apps cannot stream movies already.. damn unifi.. will it help if i use VPN?
*
there r many types of vpn...
some free ones work a bit better but can't get stream smoothing from china also.
paid ones probably work better.
i m also searching for a viable one since this unifi problem is not going away.
as it has happened twice already, they dun seem to be bothered.
it looks like like those wanting china sites can forget unifi or pay extra for vpn.

since streamyx is fine, any maxis fiber or time fiber user here who can comment?
may be forced to change isp if one simply wont work and the others can.

QUOTE(h9s9h @ Nov 26 2014, 01:00 PM)
i think q5ii doesnt support vpn. tried but no success.
*
q5ii does support vpn if native vpn is used.
i tried one, it connects but not good for china sites.

but think u r right that some vpns using apks may not work on this model.
i tried one, can't get thru, something not right abut the kernel... or rooting required...?

dear bros...due to the china traffic quota...is your pudding working? mine's not  =.=

u r not alone.... unifi cannot, all popular china vod sites dead.
unifi dun bother, says u go other country sites la... tongue.gif
only good vpn can, cheapo ones cannot.

QUOTE(se3333 @ Nov 26 2014, 05:10 PM)
Hi bro, for your info, beside Unifi, I'm using Maxis Fibre as well on another location and others telco 3G broadband as well... all no problem with China website except Unifi.
Unifi running out of bandwidth quota to China website, as you can proof that when you use China VPN + Unifi connection are working v well on China website without problem... just like what happened on Unifi @ September... but there are P2P limitation for Maxis fibre and the voice call (telephone) function are not as good as TM, and you need to call Maxis to request for Public IP instead of using Private IP by default.Ping time are slightly higher than Unifi but barely feel any different for normal usage.
*
thanks, bro.

if this crapify situation persist, i will have to talk to maxis.

Today, connection to China websites is back to normal, streaming is smooth.
Does that mean the unifi issue is over?
*
yes, yes... it's back now.

given the recent record of twice in a span of 2 months, i.e. sep and nov, can expect it be at least a bi-monthly affair.

will have to find a backup...

ya, if they dun fix this and let it repeat every month or so despite charging more than others, many unifi users may be forced to change to an isp w/o such a recurring problem.

personally, accessing china sites a priority for me, so i am clear about it.

Thank you AVFAN.

Dear Customers,

The APK file already uploaded in the skydrive. If you purchased your box after 1st Dec, Showbox already pre-installed in your box.
*
showbox is good!

users, just take note:
.. to get subs, u must register with opensubtitles:
http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/newuser
.. if u get "server error", it means your dns can't get thru to showbox. solution is to use another open dns or switch to wifi

showbox is excellent for tv shows and 720p mp4 movies.

popcorn time is excellent for 1080p (q16 only, not q5ii, q5iii?) mp4/mkv movies, not so good for tv shows.

these two combined - u have it all for english vod's! thumbup.gif

does it use torrent as well? will it work for Q5II?
*
works fine for q5ii. apparently no torrents:
QUOTE
Show Box
This app streams from an actual file locker. It uses the API of SimplyMovies.net and includes all movies from there. SimplyMovies.net finds movies on VK.com and these mostly include 720p HD quality streaming without relying on torrents. It is a great app if you dislike Flixtor (right now). The streaming is much faster then flixtor however you do need to rely on a website which could be shutdown at any minute.

The volume for some of the movies in Showbox are very soft, using the app's own player or other players makes no difference.  Any way to resolve?
*
it's soft comparatively, need to put 20/60 of tv volume. but there are others that need 30/60...

u can try archos player from playsotre - there is a volume control to boost audio.

anyway, showbox has been down since early morning, reported worldwide if not mistaken...

thanks. managed to download v3.7 and installed. was also prompted to upgrade but didnt upgrade yet.

one thing i realize is that i cant navigate around the apps using the remote control directional keys (top, bottom, left, right). anyone has such issue?

PS: this is so much easier to use as compared to XBMC smile.gif
*
like popcorn time, u need to use a mouse or the mouse function on remote.

Just goto popcorn time setting, click the cache path. Then it prompt you for the path.
*
think i mentioned this before.

that does not work for q5ii. think same for q5iii or q3.

after specifying path to usb ext hdd, it appears to dwnld n play but the speed/seeds/peers very quickly goes to zero.

somewhere in this thread, i remember another user while exchanging comments with me said he tried with ext sd card - doesn't work as well.

reading about this issue with other devices in other forums, it seems popcorn dwnld/play only works with the flash, not ext memory.

if u find otherwise, i'll be surprised.

i actually tried ext hdd on q16, same result, won't work. works only with flash memory. but for q16, that is good enough for almost everything popcorn has to offer.

i just installed n tried kodi 14.0 helix (official, not beta or rc).
http://kodi.tv/download/

interesting... my findings so far:

.. this version, setting with mediacodec acceleration on for himedia q16 (should be same for q5iii, q5ii) was fine, unlike previous versions. so, that's very good! nb: this aspect is irrelevant for for other brand devices.
.. works better for bbts - skysports
.. works good with ilive-livestreams - skysports, skynews, cnn, bloomberg
.. works fine with abemin's livestreamspro - supersports, foxsports
.. works good with xbmctorrent - eztv, kickass, yify
.. no good with genesis - think genesis is down or got clipped like mashup?

so, all is good, well done kodi! thumbup.gif will see what they come up with for kodi 14.1.

actually, for me, kodi is now more for live tv streams - news and sports. vod movies n tv series, i m better off with popcorn and showbox. wink.gif

Tested with Q5II None EMMC, the cache path works without any problem with external drive.
However, using external drive as cache path will be much troublesome because USB drive mount point dynamically change between sda, sdb, sdc,..., the cache path need to change according to the mount point from time to time. Secondly, the external drive I/O is much slower then internal flash.
*
did u do it all the way, it plays nicely?

maybe possible for small files?

my experience... the bar will show, then it all goes to zero, nothing happens...

go for q16 quadcore 16gb.

u will not regret pay a bit more for bigger memory which is required for some apps.

You still having problem with Genesis?

I just tested mine yesterday. Seems to be ok.

Genesis and 1Channel still holds more varieties of shows compare to popcorn n showbox. Right now I am more fond of Genesis. 1Channel for some reason has become superslow and their media has become super low quality 70% of the time.
*
haven't been using kodi much! biggrin.gif i use popcorn and showbox more these days....

just a side remark... esp for those who have q5ii and thinking of going q16 but reluctant to "waste" q5ii:

i now have q16 and q5ii connected to same tv.
q5ii wireless for showbox (dunno why ethernet cannot) and astro-on-the-go (it can't work on q16).
q16 ethernet for everything else - popcorn, hitv, pudding, kodi, etc...

both used, not wasted. tongue.gif
