previously my mother use hitv it cant load movie anymore, then i change server to hongkong then can load again, not sure now hongkong server still allow us to load movie or not.

what i want to say is, IF hitv and mangotv were blocked, any other apps that is great for watch tv sad.gif ? its for my mother, she's televisyen worm. looking for free apps. or any free trick.

just noted down the apps that mentioned in last 2 post the 装机必备, the moretv, justseries.tv, will try it out.
*
yes, we all miss hitv which was easy to use, some good stuff. but, no more.

there r alternatives, just need to find app versions, install and update when necessary.

i hv tried quite a few. unless using vpn, some of them do not work well, no use.

.. moretv, vst, togic all big good apps, but do not work well
.. pptv works well but stuff inside r a little old
.. mango has good stuff, but sensitive to connections, lag a bit

.. 布丁 pudding - this is the best, imo - good library, well organized, good quality, streams well. try it!
http://down.znds.com/apk/tv/juhe/2014/0616/792.html

.. justseries.tv is browser based. i find to slow and hard to navigate to get to anything, a lot of old stuff.

I've been using VST and Togic all this while for dramas/series/chinese movies. Togic used to be very good but has degraded somehow due to lack of streaming sources. VST is generally good. For live TV, i'm using HDPLive and Togic.
*
is vst streaming smoothly for u?

i find vst very good in new content but many do not stream well. like this movie, brotherhood of blades, not found anywhere else yet. good quality but keeps lagging, took me a long time to finish it!
user posted image

my experience for streaming smothness, i rank these sites in order of excellence:

1. pudding
2. pptv
3. mango
4. togic
5. vst

ar... thanks for headsup!

i was wondering how to change resolution as i use wireless mouse usually. mouse can't change resolution on vst unlike others, only remote control menu button can do that.

tried vst again, ethernet or wifi, "super" lags... high, clear or std ok. biggrin.gif

anyone missing hitv, please try pudding and vst - good stuff! thumbup.gif

mangotv is good..i watch english NCIS season 8..very smooth..i just clicked qt the picture coz i dun read chinese..
*
english tv series, u r better off with popcorn time, some with choice of 720p or 480p!
mangotv - the chinese stuff is quite good. only thing i find not so good is hd selection does not work well most of the time, sd is fine.

QUOTE(jutamind @ Oct 25 2014, 09:18 AM)
I thought iqiyi was blocked if you use the official apps? Togic's quality is dropping nowadays
*
ya, togic has good library but many take too long to load or can get only sd.

i find iqiyi, vqq (tencent), youku kankan too slow or hard to navigate.

pudding, vst, pptv, mango are my favs - easier to navigate, fast and smooth, usually. wink.gif

In the past streaming from iqiyi was impossible, even in hitv. Now, it streams 720P without a hitch. That's why I mentioned 'The latest ...'.
PPTV, togic, pudding, iqiyi and moli work well for my q5ii.
My experience with tuzi (rabbit) and sohu is unfavourable.
YMMV.
*
bro, my experience:
pptv, pudding are good, no doubt. i'll add vst too.
these 3, i usually can get std and high resolutions, super resolution gets laggy most of the time.
togic and iqiyi... these two, the streams r not as stable, best can get std only.
can share yr experience as to "work well" means low, std, high or super resolutions for those apps?

my comments above are for q5ii dual. the experience for q16 quad is different which i will do a writeup in the q16 thread later.... still testing. biggrin.gif

So far, from my experience, togic2.8.4 streams super resolution stuff without any problem; iqiyi3.5 streams 720P smoothly but not so for 1080P, pq in iqiyi is very good.
My preference is togic and pudding.

Maybe the outcome could be different with Q16 quad.
*
it is interesting to note what u get with togic 2.8.4.

i hv same togic, doesn't stream well with q5ii but better with q16 alto not super most of the time. depends on the video, i guess.

u must be using some super dns or proxy! thumbup.gif

Dear Customers.

If you experience your PopCorn Time always run between 10-20KB/s, pls take note of the below :

1). Please choose 720p instead of 1080p. Typical 720p movies required 150KB/s, below that will cause POPcorn hang.
*
i think unlikely q5ii will play 1080p or any video >1gb at all, even with 500mb memory available - message memory not big enough always pop out.

looks to me it takes 1 for 1, i.e. for 2gb video, it will need 2gb memory available to play. need to strip apps to bare, possible?

q5iii with bigger memory shud work, just like q16.

can't we point the cache folder to other usb memory stick ? will it help ?
*
i tried. yes, it takes out the lack of memory problem.
but... loading too slow. even when loaded, doesn't play properly, lag...
even on q16, using usb drive for cache gave same results, no good.
problem looks like usb connection or hdd too slow.

but... maybe it will work with an sdcard plugged in.
perhaps nicety can test it - if it works, can buy an sdcard! biggrin.gif

I'm using a sdcard it solve the memory problem, but then 1080p still slow maybe is internet 10mb not enough
*
does not sound good to me. did u try with usb hdd, same or diff result?

10mbps is good enough. i tried 3 1080p movies - edge of tmrw, x-men and expandables 3.
with q5ii usb-hdd, either loading stop or after long time loading, does not play smooth.
with q16 usb-hdd, same result.
vpn on or not, same result.

once i switch back to internal memory for q16, all 3 movies play nicely.

if u tried sd/mmc, still no good, then i can only conclude popcorn time 1080p requires a few gb available flash memory to work.

nicety, i think it is that medicodec acceleration not turned off.
default setting with pc downloaded version has it on. seen it too many times!

for those who use wifi to connect their Himedia box to internet, you might want to download Ezunlock from Google Play (no need for root). it's supposed to connect to China DNS and will unblock all those movie apps.

too bad i'm using LAN cable...
*
but u can always test it by turning off yr ethernet and on wifi, no?

i checked it a bit... seems it's a simple app to change dns, incl some china ones, google open dns...
question is always how good they r, and how long they last being getting blocked...

if u r still on xbmc frodo or xbmc gotham, consider moving to kodi helix. kodi is the new name of the app, xbmc will disappear.
latest version is kodi 14.0 helix beta2. more stable than the predecessors. works on q16, works on q5ii, so go ahead: smile.gif
just take note if u hv xbmc now, installing kodi will cause migraton of the .xbmc folder (addons, settings) to .kodi. meaning u can then delete xbmc to save memory, about 1xx mb.

find kodi 14.0 helix beta2 here:
http://kodi.tv/download/

a great new app applicable to kodi only is this bbts.
u gotta love >1500 live tv and radio stations!
mostly sd, some 720p 2.0.
includes news, movies, concerts, uk, usa tv, natgeo people, starworld, sky sports, russian tv, syria tv, bangkok tv, etc., etc. all live. thumbup.gif

for those using unifi 5MB, does upgrading to 10MB helps in streaming especially China contents more smoothly?

as i know 10MB only applies for local speed...increasing to 10MB doesnt mean we have bigger pipes for oversea contents.

appreciate some real life experience and comments after upgrading from 5MB to 10MB.
*
if u do the numbers, most china videos are 1.0 audio. so, even hd ones can only be max 1gb for 1hr or 2gb for 2hrs.
that requires a speed of 277KBps x 8 = 2.2mbps. unifi5 shud do the job, no need unifi10 or 20.
but... only if there r no other users, no other devices using bandwidth.
and only if unifi is stable and max.
if unifi is not stable and some other devices come on and off, unifi5 may not be enough, unifi10 will be useful in this case.
unifi10 or 20 will also be very good for streaming hd videos like some in popcorn time that are 4-5gb in size.
ethernet connection is better than wifi. and, orig unifi router is not so good, a good router does help.

my exp... unifi10 does not guarantee good china streams even when full speed is available.
there are poor links, poor videos, poor sites, bad traffic...
too many unknowns, hard to determine.
e.g. many videos from youku and iqiyi in hitv does not stream well, whatever the time of the day.
on same hitv, pptv and vqq streams well, even "super" hd.
then, go to pudding, even better, hd, smooth all the way - can tell by the buffer.
go to mango, vst, togic, some excellent, some poor. sometimes get hd, sometimes get sd.
i m convinced even with unifi20, it will be the same - for the china sites in discussion.

of course, use of paid vpn should be very smooth as vip's will not be in the same traffic jams like the masses.

I am using Q5III Quad Core, tried XBMC Frodo and Gotham. Play local HD movie lagging. Solve it by using SPMC(Modded XBMC) , can be use like charm. The new XBMC Helix is there any Q5III Quad User tried it? How it perform? Is it still lagging when play local HD movie  ? Just concern.

Thanks
*
i hv q16 quad on 1.0.6 and q5ii dual on 1.0.8.

spmc is a fork of xbmc. i tried it on q5ii, it works but i found it unstable, crashing. so i reverted to xbmc 13.2 and now kodi 14.0 beta2.
xbmc 13.1, 13.2, kodi 14.0 beta2 are all stable on q5ii.

q16, xbmc 13.1 and 13.2 are not very stable, crashing. kodi 14.0 beta2 is stable for q16. kodi (but not xbmc) can take new addon bbts 1000 live tv channels. tested it quite a bit, it is a great addon to have, the best live tv addon there is - usa, uk, italian, french stations... plus concerts, news, documentaries, history channel, travel channel, food network, etc., etc.

i do not know if the differences in performance of xbmc, spmc and kodi are due to brand, model, dual/quad or firmware or something else but i would think q5iii quad should be the same as q16 quad for kodi as the specs r the same except for emmc size.

i do not know if spmc addons/settings will migrate to kodi like it does with xbmc when u install kodi (a folder named org.xbmc.xbmc will migrate and get renamed org.xbmc.kodi). kodi now seems to be giving cold shoulders and understandably so, to ex-xbmc spinoffs like xunity.
that is actually good so that u dun need to set up all over again; just remove xbmc (or spmc?) app when satisfied with kodi.

yr concern is about playback via xbmc lagging... this i can't comment as i dun do local hdd playback on xbmc (understand u do that for extras like logos, get subs) i always use native player which works very well incl iso/bdmv/dtshdma. for q16 native local playback, pressing menu button on remote gives a photoshop quality setup option where u can define yr own picture quality parameters.

Thanks for replying my post. Ya I like to use one platform as media centre to play everything as XBMC/SPMC can provide me anything info and graphical on each movie. Nevermind, later will try Kodi (Helix) with my Q5III Quad. If still lagging and not smooth. Better stay with SPMC.

smile.gif
*
yes, if u dun try, u never know.

if u dun already know, i suggest u copy and save the right setup/addons folder (can't remember the name for spmc) to copy back if case u need to reinstall spmc. first weeks using xbmc, i pulled my hair having to do repos, get addons, enable addons all over again...

Thank you AVFAN for the sharing.

Dear Customers,

It's time for the upgrade to KODI Helix 14. If you are not technical savvy, does not matter. This is the value added service we gave you. I have uploaded the KODI APK file and "5 steps quick upgrade XBMC to KODI" guide in my skydrive. You can get your KODI ready as easy as copy files only, the configuration included BBTS and XBMCTORRENT as shared by AFVAN. Enjoy!
*
there is now kodi 14.0 helix beta3!
i updated today, didn't see any significant change; probably just some bug fixes.

bbts live tv is surely good, enjoying it.

xbmctorrent is tricky. i barely got it to work on q16 but quite happy about it in the end.
but i can't get it to work on q5ii; hope q5iii can work like q16.
the problem is complex. if interested, read my long post#953.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3139601/+940

will post this in Q16 thread as well.
