Hi everyone, has anyone tested or know if Q5II, Q6 or Q10II is capable of playing bluray M2TS (BDMV folders) or BDISO via NFS or Samba share from a NAS or networked PC smoothly via a Gigabit Ethernet network? As the file size is fairly huge (23gb -45gb per file). Content is 2d and 3d. Let's not take network congestion into factor and the network is to be running purely this. This is fairly important factor for upgrading my current media player.

can only tell you:

Q5II is capable of playing bluray M2TS (BDMV folders) = yes, direct with file manager native player via usb.

no idea if using xbmc, samba, wireless, etc....

Do you recommend Q5II? have you tried connect with portable HDD and leave torrent running with it?

for my purposes, q5ii is good enough - streaming news, tv series, b grade movies, china tv, kids stuff, browser, u tube, astro go...

was told u can configure to dwnld with torrent but i never tried not even for playback.

i prefer to torrent on pc much easier, playback via ac ryan which gives better video n audio.

mind elaborating on ac ryan which gives better video and audio? that means you're using both q5ii and ac ryan?

also for streaming videos, what's your internet connection speed?

i just got a q5ii and i'm on unifi 5mbps, the streaming seems to be quite laggy...

i have bd player, ac ryan, q5ii, astro beyond, 10mbps unifi - good for ipads, corners of the house, and whatever gadgets visitors bring.

astro will be terminated soon.

about lagging, many of them lag esp hd. even 10 or 20mbps becos it is due to infra, traffic and isp blockages, not likely yr speed. still, if u look hard enuf, u can find some hd channels ok, no lagging.

q5ii is great for streaming hollywood/chinese tv series, less popular movies (watch n forget), news, kids, utube, browser. i use hitv, cloudtv and xbmc 90% of the time - these 3 are good enough, no real need for others.

for higher grade stuff incl bdmv n flac, get files n playback on ac ryan for superior video. but ac ryan pohd/mini is really a media player, can't stream, can't utube.

q5ii can also handle playback 1080p, bdmv, dtshdma, 3d, i tested. not using it now but may come in handy one day, serve as backup player.

possible i hv been lucky - i spent money on ac ryan and q5ii n not others, found both boxes excellent, compliment each other to suit my total needs.

thanks for the info. ya i guess it depends on the infra and server, was streaming a show and it turned out fine with decent quality (was maybe 720p?), but i'll prolly upgrade to 10Mbps and see how.

is yours connected through LAN or wifi? do you watch movies from network folders? mine's on wifi and the built-in media centre can't see network folders, not through LAN nor NFS, though i could see them in XBMC.
also i'm not sure if watching full HD movies through network folders is good enough, tried one but didn't seem ok, sound is off-sync, maybe i'll try plugging the file into Q5II directly and see how

Another thing is watching HK TV series in Cloud TV and mango TV gives Mandarin and not Canto, it's there a way to change the audio to Canto? Or any app to recommend for that?

i think 10 mbps will improve overall esp, when u may hv other things at work like ipads and pc. my exp is that alto it is 10 mbps, the streaming m dwnld of certain contents any time is capped by unifi at 1mbps. for 5mbps, the cap is 500kpbs. since smooth streaming really needs only 200kbps for so, maybe 500kbps for hd, higher speed may help. but i m quite sure the bulk of the problem is not yr speed but the other bottlenecks out there.

my q5ii is direct cable LAN connected to router. i tried it wireless 50 ft away, much weaker but still works for some channels.

i hv not tried playback via network folders with q5ii but i wud expect it to work well if cable lan. wireless is always tricky for hd files. i tried that with acryan wireless, works good for small files, but stutters for even 720p, audio loss for dts.... not hopeful it'll be better with q5ii if wireless n big files. i m used to keeping stuff on portable hdds, backups, so I just plug in the hdd to acryan, q5ii or bd player... they all work perfectly but like I said, acryan gives best video n audio.

somewhere out there, we wait for an ultimate machine - one that accesses all apps n addons, streams everything perfect, playback to deliver best video n audio.! biggrin.gif

If you are worried about speed, you should install an app or program that track your download speed. Last time when I did, I notice that the download speed rarely reach the limit of unifi anyway, so I suspect the lagging is normally not due to speed limit by unify or streamyx i.e. upgrading to 10mbps may not improve the issue.

I'm not sure that unify/streamyx cap streaming media saperately really....

hmm streaming hiTV cloudTV and PPS are all very laggy for me even though it's smooth on the laptop... Both on the same wifi... anyone with the same experience?

also does anyone know if there's a way to remote control the Android TV box remotely like through teamviewer, trying to make it a remote bittorrent server.

been doing more tests, my findings for hitv on q5ii 10mbps unifi....

.. daytime more lagging, night time much better, incl hd
.. hitv, best channel is vqq. youku n others not so good
.. if lagging, switch to low def using the control bar activated by ok remote... can see the buffer is good... setting remains for all hitv channels until u change again... low def resolution is still acceptable but is not as good as mid def which looks like 480
.. 40ft wireless still work but is marginally inferior to wired

I use wireless mouse bot in some other shop, useful. remote is ok if used to it but is no good when using it as keyboard

Have you try controlling using Himediacontrol in android phone? That's the best way to me.

ya that's the best way, but for others in the household to use, and also looking for a remote that can control other devices, so far I only found Rikomagic Mk702 ii, any other air mouse / keyboard combo that can also control other devices?
