Thanks for reply bro.

Meaning still realtek player picture video image quality is better? Anyone has tested & compared the difference? Any improvement from last firmware update?

Actually, I have an old 1073DD ++ chipset media player which I contemplate to upgrade. First thought was to upgrade a better spec realtek media player. Now I don't know should i or not? rclxub.gif

himedia android is primarily for streaming, playback as media player is a useful secondary purpose, imo.

i dun know any other android incl higher himedia models, but i can tell you the q5ii video output for playback is inferior to the ac ryans with few year old 1073dd and 1073dd c+ chipsets.

maybe it's not all about old or new chipset but many other things, but that's my experience.

from the q5ii settings, it shows pal, ntsc..... 720p 50hz.....1080p 60hz. no mention of fps, refresh rate.
Thank you for checking. The 'HZ' above means the same thing as FPS. Too bad no setting for 1920x1080 24Hz.

Most movies are at 24 fps so when you play at 1080p 60hz for example, it will repeat some frames like so: frame1, frame1, frame1, frame2, frame2, frame3, frame3, frame3, frame4, frame4, .....

This 3:2:3:2 repeat is not as smooth as on players that support 1080p 24hz where it displays each frame once without repeats: frame1, frame2, frame3, ....

Does your TV support 24 Hz mode with other players like your AC Ryan? What model TV is it?

Anyone experience problem when using XBMC on Android with error message "external player active, click ok when playback has ended'
. Happen only on live stream like sports etc.
But works fine on movie streaming and all Navi channel.

thanks for ccomments.

i hv played with all kinds of setting combinations with my tv, acryan, bd player and himedia.

tv is a sharp 42" lcd, capable of 1080p 24hz.

on acryan and bdp, 1080p 24hz makes no diff compared to 1080p 60hz - to my eyes.
trouble is everytime the xx hz changes with a diff file, the display (correctly) will be flashed, screen goes black for a second or 2 - i find this irritating.
so, i usually set all players 1080p 60hz, turn off the 24hz option. perhaps video quality diff notiecable only on larger tvs?

himedia q5ii does not have a setting for 24hz, so the tv with this machine is always on 1080p 60hz.

my original question remains: anyone able to watch all 720 and 1080 material smoothly with q5ii streaming, no jerks? am i missing some setting or 10mbps unifi lan too slow or something else?? tq for any comment.

xbmc 12.2 has no hardware video acceleration for our q5II.

this is suppose to be fixed in gotham with libstagefright

solution is use external player. but this is a hit and miss also..

Abit of digging and I found this :

http://ka8.hk/shoprm.asp?action=show&id=99&class=1

Seems there is another version of the Q series which has a higher spec GPU, use a newer chipset and using eMMC instead of NAND.

The firmware definitely cannot go into our lower end Q5II

sad.gif It also has a Mali 400 Quad core vs the normal Q5II is only Mali 500 dual core

eMMC version also is upgrade to Hi3718 chipset. The old one is using Hi3716CV200ES

Boot up is now 25sec vs 50 sec

u cant use file manager

file manager lowest directory u can go is /mnt/flash or /mnt/sdcard (both are the same folder)

you need to install ES File Explorer which can bring you to the root (/ directory)

only from there you can go to /system/app
