on one end, 2mm makes all the difference.... on the other, you think 30mm is not much...haiks

a handlebar too narrow causes constricted breathing among other discomforts... should have sized it up during purhase...i saw before 1 fella at 2 diff shops on separate occasion looking for a 46cm... he is body builder type looking and no shops has that size available for him...

the only way to know is to give it a try... didn't know 3t produces 70mm lengths... really mtb territory already

i have a 90mm 6d, 100mm 6d, 110 6d, 110mm 8d, 115mm 6d from experimental runs... all funded from own pocket... still has the 110 and 115 with the 110 6d still on bike...wanted to give 120mm a try, but gave up as stems are crazy expensive...

if got money will get a zero 100 titanium bolts version

Added on December 28, 2012, 2:58 am

got no relation to height wat... short fella can have wide shoulders... might look weird but thats the sole reason there is this word "weirdo" rite?

Yes, I'm contradicting myself. I was perfectly sure I need a 70mm stem..currently I measured my merida one is at 100mm. Since I only have 1 stem at the moment, I guess I need to experiment a bit with diff stem length to find the one that is perfect fit for me. I guess that explains how butthead had so many stems, 6d is fine with me, just need to play around with the length..how come after so many stems you still wanna experimenting with 120mm? No length suits you?

Anyway since now already has 2 people saying 70mm is way too short, im worried already. luckily I only bought normal alloy and not the expensive carbon..

3T do have 70mm.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/3t-arx-pro-alloy-o...ized-road-stem/

hey my fit also way off then the one showed in the picture above..if following the tips, i need a longer stem..but i need a shorter stem to relax and bend my hand a bit especially when riding on the hood

during mtb days... stem are as short as possible and you dont feel much disrepencies with different length and there is good reasons for this... especially on a roadie...

although common knowledge states there is 3 touch points on the bike... there is a few variables to factor in for road bike compared to mtb... on mtb, you have to deal with only 2 major hand positioning ... bar top and maybe holding bar ends..
on roadie, you have bar top, bar top closer to stem, hoods, drops which affect reach quite a bit depending of the types of bar you use...

one length might let you feel comfy grabbing the bar top but not the hoods.. the other might feel better grabbing the hoods out of saddle but screws with seated reach for the hoods... if you are the finicky type... it's complicated

i actually played even deeper than length alone... at one point i experimented with shallow and compact bars... i do like shallow bars than compact as i can run the stem slightly shorter but yet to find one that i like and has very very little drop..

wanted to try -17 degree to, but too chicken to go with that one...

dont worry about the length... as i say it will be experimental... as long as you dont mind spending the money to experiment.. which is why i say swap stems with friends or borrow loaners from bike shops...
*
so complex..haihs..when finding the correct stem, do you play with the saddle movement as well? Currently mine was fix at the maximum front end railing, making me pushed backwards as far as it can. perhaps I may overcome the need for a shorter stem after i move the saddle to the front a bit.

I am 173cm in height btw.

See my avatar..isn't my arms is a bit outstretched? It should be a relaxed bend..

avatar too small la. need to see side view. anyway, about ur fitting. actually, first u need to set ur saddle position. use the "knee above pedal spindle" rule. u will get ur correct saddle position. after that, only then u find the correct stem length.
*
thx buddy for the tip. weird huh..after 1 year riding only I feel I need to adjust the stem..i guess all this while only climbing hence not much sore as i'll always out of saddle...nowdays ride flat only only feel arm sore tongue.gif

why don't u use a setback seatpost?

Added on December 28, 2012, 3:54 pm
i got mine done rm350. but not by spez shop la

Added on December 28, 2012, 3:55 pm
i started with 110, then moved to 90. i'm on 100 now. but the guy says i can go with 110 with my current setup

Added on December 28, 2012, 4:00 pmmrjgx already pushed his saddle furthest back, and wants to use short stem. weird setup.

why did u push back ur saddle? u got really long legs? and 90mm stem, because short torso?
*
I pushed back the saddle because I like to sit at the further back of the seat, if I move to the front it'll feel weird.

About the knee over the spindle, my knee is a bit behind the spindle but very minimal. I can also see my front hub a bit.

Saddle height is perfect though. Hurm do I need a setback seatpost? Or a shorter stem? I'm screwed.

Thx dudes. I guess I better alter the saddle position first. Just bought a 90mm stem..alloy ones are quit cheap anyway so now I hv 100, and 90 on play with. 70 is on the way! Lol.

Bought a chain whip as well, it comes with the bolt wrench for shimano too. Now can swap cassette on my own no need to go to shop tongue.gif

After this have to learn to adjust the shifting, barrel adjuster etc.

I want to get 303 FC but if I get it I couldn't mount it to my dream bike. We couldn't get all we want could we? There's always a trade off.

Anyway what do you guys think about 2013 Mavic Cosmic Carbone SLR? Not the Ultimate ver as it is a tubies and although it weighs around 1.1kg, I'd rather have a clincher anytime. Review said it's a tough wheel, but a tad heavier at around 1.6kg..

Hubs comparison againts 404 FC? Which one is superior in terms of spokes reliability as well as in maintenance perspective?

hub... zipp always wins... it's only 188grams for the rear and 88 for the front... and not to mention... sweet ol swiss steel bearings...this wheels if you can buy should not be worrying about reliability... it's guaranteed to break in one way or another sooner or later (comparing it to a 36-spoke classic wheel using dura ace hubs and mavic open pros laced to j-turn DT champion straight gauge spokes)... and money solves any problems that arises...not to worry as i say (as long as you have the money)...

else, think 50 times before doing it...
*
ok lah..think so many times also no use right. zipp it is then sweat.gif

Came out from GH..  will die from the self induced poison, slowly and eventually!
On my way out, saw the S-Work black LTD. Stated claimed 5.9 kg only, mighty impressive. Somewhat didn't fancy the 303 tubular wheels, as i am not ready to take on the hassle of a puncture and much prefer a clincher type. Talking like I am taking a plunge... Must be the effect of the poison! icon_question.gif
Oh, it only cost less than 30 big ones in case you are interested.  rclxub.gif

haha. i held that bike before..5.9kg..feels like plastic! rm29k right? lol

like a friend of mine said once, "if u think too much, u'd be left just wondering what it feels like to own or riding those wheels. so just get it already"

spoken like a true saleseman tongue.gif

plain jersey..go for Rapha..I always love their design but haven't got the guts to order them..same goes to Assos.

my ass love Castelli brands..it rejects Nalini and Vermarc. Santini is ok but the one I bought, the gel padded one is fugly, making me look fat.

asos tagline: sponsor yourself..to death) tongue.gif

owh btw, try Capo brand, very italian looking and plain.

worst case, you go champion system website and design on your own. you can even have a minimum order for 1 set.

Tried competitve cyclist fit calculator and I always get different number when i key in the info. Get some odd number like unusually long top tube which most bike manufacturer did not offer. icon_question.gif

Dont understand what is going on sad.gif I am so keen on that canyon ultimate AL bike.. I had long leg and short body btw  rclxub.gif
*
Bro..Do you really need that Canyon bike? It's AL anyway right so why spend for another bike which is similar to what you have at the moment.

trial and error. that's what i'm doing now. true, reading reviews alone is not enough. but at least can try the most popular choice within set criteria. wouldn't u agree?

this would be my fifth saddle
Agreed! Reviews will somehow narrow down your hunt. I'm on 2nd saddle now (prologo scratch pro) and was pretty comfortable for about a year until I itchy wanna try Fizik. Luckily my new lbs has Fizik ranges for demo (all in yellow colors with demo label).

About the 2012 bikes, no Specialized?? Colnago looks awfully plain! What's so special about it apart from being Italian?

OTH, contador is here in Dubai! He'll be riding on the official officiating ceremony on my usual 85km route..sadly the ceremony is by invitation only...haihs..

Ghost rider sounds great if I were to meet contador but nope I will not do that. There'll be police escort for sure as the prime minister is coming too. And the police here damn strict, you could be ended up in jail for a very small reason..

Anyway I'd prefer if Boonen came here..both are riding my dream bike so it's ok though tongue.gif

boonen rides on all 3 roubaix, venge and tarmac depending on the races... while contador rides exclusively on the tarmac... never seen him hop on the venge before for a race....

2010 sees him on the roubaix for the opening stage of le tour when it passes the cobble stages...then it was back to tarmac all the way...

nice ass...

Yea my dream bikes including venge and a Tarmac although I prefer the latter more..roubaix is not in my list though tongue.gif

To build the ultimate sworks Tarmac SL4 for climbing purposes..all zipp carbon cockpits, SRAM Red 2013, paired with my not so weight weenie FR0, do you think I can achieve a 6.5kg of total bike weight or its not possible?

Not so ultimate lah unless I use sub 1.3kg tubs wheelset..but 6.5kg is attainable right or perhaps 6kg..
