Can a bank close a customer's deposit account without providing any reason? Anyone experienced this before? I have been informed that the bank would like to close all my deposit accounts and asked to go to branch to facilitate that. If I do not act within a certain time frame, my accounts would be automatically closed. When I asked why, I was told they don't really know the reason as it was HQ's order. If it's an order from HQ, you should receive an official letter from HQ stating their action in doing so with valid reason to do so.
The letter will probably request you to go to nearest branch, home branch or HQ to sort it out.
Sounded very fishy to me.

Bank will usually notify you in advance their intention.

At least for my case, UOB did send me a love letter stating their intention to turn one of high yielding saving account into dormant due to no activities for the past 1 year,

more often than not, there will be a reason. u should know what money came into ur account - whether that is the reason ur account is gonna be closed.

I requested an official letter from HQ from the branch's staff who contacted me and did receive a letter from the bank a few days later. However, it was not from HQ but from my home branch instead. No reason was given either in the letter.

The problem is the bank is not disclosing the reason for their actions. So, we could only speculate. Almost all the transactions in the accounts were among my own bank accounts. According to the image & link posted by yklooi.... The bank need not hv to gives you reason....
Read Yr s/a T&C to see if that clause is there?

I just opened a new free basic saving account at bsn a month ago. The staff knew about it but keep persuading me to open normal account instead when i explicitly and firmly said the free basic saving account is what i want. Probably because it doesn't make them money from the yearly fee. The monthly 4x free atm usages and 4x free counter visits is more than enough for me, no need to waste paying yearly fee for unlimited atm and counter visit which I won't even utilize.

Visited the branch again last week to request for my account statement and this time the (different) staff is clueless about the basic saving account. Shes confused and said I don't even have an account with them. Probably the menu for the basic saving account is buried deep within their system lol

Yr basic saving a/c does mot come with an a/c numbers that can link to your nric numbers in their system too?
By just key in in any of those in their system, I think Yr details with the bank can be dug up even "buried deep within their system", if really that case.

Then she asked for my debit card, scanned it and finally be able to find the correct account in their system. The previous staff which helped me opened the account were also having trouble, asked back and fourth with his colleagues a few times about some "code" before he finally able to open the account for me. Basic saving account aren't really a well known thing even for bank staff.
