What's the model number bro? looks good!!

SKX007

Seiko going to discontinue the SKX007?
*
Back in Sept last year, I was told by AD that it's discontinued and I got mine after another shops ahpek managed to get me one. He also told me same thing that its discontinued.

Like Everdying said, all the new Seiko 5's transitioned to 4R36 already so I doubt they will continue with the SKX. I've got a stinking feeling that there may not be a replacement model... maybe Sumo will be doing that job. Come to think of it.. the RRP here for new Monster and Sumo is not THAT big of a gap.

Depend on movement, if its the ubiquitous 7s25/36 .... its around 38hours fully wound.

What's the difference between 7s25/36 and 4r36? If 4r36 is a newer movement, shouldn't it be better? It seems like you guys are appreciating the old movement more. Sentimental value? lol

The 4R36 is "better" in terms of features with the addition of hack and hand wind.

The 7s26 is the "proven" movement and longest running best seller from seiko?

well, most seiko movements are dependable enough...and i dont see any reason the 4r36 will break that trend.
anyway, seems u cant retrofit a 4r36 directly into skx007...but u can fit a 6r15... whistling.gif
so that may just imply that 4r36 isnt exactly based on a 7s26...their stated accuracy specs also differ by about 5secs or so.

would be interesting what the replacement skx brings tho...if they would fit a 4r36 in...the new model apparently would need to have a domed crystal.

Yup, the 7S26 and 7S36 has been discontinued. If I'm not mistaken, it was introduced in 92 or 93. Usually, Seiko movements have a production lifespan of 10 years. Due to its demand, simplicity, reliability and accuracy it has been in service for 20 years. thumbup.gif

Most parts are interchangeable between the 7S26 and 4R36.

Next longest in service would be 5M42 & 5M43 Kinetic movements. A few years more, it can surpass the 7S26.

According to the tech specs:
Fully wound, the 7S26 has a power reserve of 41 hours + in dial up position. The mainspring barrel takes 8 turns to fully wind it up manually with a screwdriver. The rotor needs to rotate 1800 times to fully wind the mainspring from fully winded down position.

In my case, I'm indifferent to the movement.. hack/handwind or not... doesn't matter tongue.gif

I wanted a Seiko diver and am intrigued by the fact that the SKX007 entered production in 1996. There must be something special (in this day and age) for a product to remain in production for 17 years.

Now... where to find a spare 6r15?

If Seiko ever replaces the 007, I think they will also restyle it.

Would not normally go for a Seiko 5 but I couldn't resist grabbing this

- Steel Tuna like Bezel cover (unlike plastic ones on the new 4R36 tuna's)
- Large Size 44mm
- Full Dial Lume rclxm9.gif

Introducing my "poor mans" Seiko Tuna

Everyone needs a Seiko 5 at one point of another laugh.gif

Don''t understand why they use the rubber/plastic shrouds these days also.

Congrats on the new addition. For us noobs, maybe you can elaborate more about that piece.

The movement is the 7S36. 22mm lugs with folded end links and solid links and a double lock signed seiko clasp.
It also has a flat mineral crystal, see through back.
The bezel is unidirectional with 120 clicks.

What I liked about the watch in paticular is :
- The steel shroud tuna design
- The entire dial is lumed
- embossed "Seiko" "5" shield and metallic day/date window
- metallic second hand

What this watch is lacking :
- Non Screw-in crown
- only 100m water resist
- No lume on the hands ( a blue lume would have been nice to contrast the green lume of the dial)
- Numbers on the bezel used to be black, now all gone

Bought the watch for two reasons : never had a watch with shrouded bezel design, first fully lumed dial watch smile.gif

Here is a picture of the lume.

hands all dont have lume. yup currently looking for a sharpie to do the colouring project. just wondering if dark green would be nice instead of the stock black for bezel numbers

@sniper... lumed dial is in no way suitable for a sniper in the forest. Immediately would give away sniper position if at nite hehehe

Putting a day date dial 7S26 onto date only movement 6R15 won't be nice due to the empty space for day wheel.
Seiko does not and will not sell complete movements. The only way you are going to get a complete Seiko movement is to cannibalize another Seiko watch. The new monster would be a perfect choice since the crown is at 4 o'clock similar to SKX007.
The alternative is to get a movement from TMI. NH36A = 4R36A (Minimum order 100 pcs) Only caveat, no Seiko markings on that movement.

NH36A is configured for 3' o'clock crown position. Putting one an SKX007 means the dial won't align correctly. The dial feet needs to be removed and use adhesive stickers to attach the dial onto the movement. Other than that, need to change the crown winding stem, else can't fit the part for hand winding nor for stop seconds function.

After doing a bit more research, it seems that 7S36 movement with crown configuration @ 3 o'clock is discontinued while the one with crown configuration @ 4 o'clock is still available. I suppose this makes sense since 4R36 watches are more expensive and by totally stopping production of 7S26 and 7S36 will remove Seiko from the lower end of the market.

7S26 and 7S36 is almost the same except for the extra 2 jewels. <Link> Click and scroll down

In a way, 7S26 still soldiers on.... biggrin.gif

I'm totally confused.

As I know, Seiko 5 is on the bottom of the mechanical food chain.. and now its upgraded to more expensive 4R36... 7S36 discontinued.

But 7s26 continues in production? For what model? Everything else also move to 4RXX already wat. Or they making another mechanical line below Seiko 5. Or for Alba etc?
