It wont make any sense if Proton's main strategic partner is Suzuki. Suzuki is just a small player and it is owned by VW. VW already distancing themselves from Proton.
The only logical partner is Honda right now. I thought it was Mitsubishi but looks like Mitsubishi won't want to return back again. Interesting choice will be Toyota. Although already own Perodua indirectly, ever remember of consolidating Proton and Perodua? This may make much sense, actually. UMWT is afterall, an GLC. |

VW already distancing themselves from Proton. without VW, suzuki is not a small player. suzuki just not able to break in SEA market. this is one of the reason why they are eying p1. they are one of the top 10 players in the world. India no. 1. Not surprise if they want a manufacturing hub in SEA, and P1 tg malim plant is ready. Suzuki have decent diesel engine that might move to P1 model for export in the future. T and H both enjoying high margin business and decent volume in sales. Highly unlikely they want to move to lower margin high volume business in malaysia and bring down the current model value. Mit is not a top 10 player as according to the news, it is one of the top 10 players. Nissan a unlikely dark horse. But again, not sure what type of technical input is p1 looking for. Perdana replacement, engine supplier, or platform supplier for compact car?? |

They want partner who can co-developed engine for them. Mitsubishi - number one conman. Ask Hyundai for details. Any foreign partner who are willing to do that is the new partner for Proton. VW - loves to control. Even want to control how youre going to pee in your own bathroom. Toyota - Only think of how to make money. Make crap cars with lowest spec for asian, and charge them high (Same in Indo, Thai, Malaysia, Phil). P2 Engineers can attest to this statement (Vulva use 200 ~ 350 MPa HTS, Mira Avy spec is 300~500 MPa) Suzuki - Family business. K-cars and Maruti. Enough said. GM - Truck maker. And Bumblebee. Ford - burnt money from Volvo, Jaguar, LR, Aston. PSA - cannot sell own cars, even rebadge cars have issues Renault/Nissan - Have other partner and want cash upfront in every dealing (transmission, engines, etc) Bad experience from Waja 1.8 and Savvy, heck even Renault starting to use Nissan engines/components. |

Proton is 'deadweight' - any partners is only looking at the 'manufacturing infrastructures' and also the potential of using MY as a 'hub' centre.

Although already own Perodua indirectly, ever remember of consolidating Proton and Perodua? This may make much sense, actually. UMWT is afterall, an GLC. QUOTE The partnership beween Volkswagen and Suzuki is more than two years old, yet in that time, more acrimony and court proceedings have been created than jointly developed products – not hard to do when that product number is zero. Continent-crossing accusations have included Suzuki being upset at how VW has characterized the relationship and that VW hasn't shared its technology, while the German automaker has been miffed at Suzuki buying diesel engines from Fiat. Suzuki filed for arbitration in London and hopes to compel VW to sell back the 19.9-percent stake it took in Suzuki in 2009. A line in VW's annual report, however, reads that it "considers the claims to be unfounded and has itself filed counterclaims." VW doesn't expect a court decision on Suzuki's arbitration to come before 2013. We know they say it's always darkest before the dawn, but we have a feeling the sun won't be rising on this union for quite some time. |
