It wont make any sense if Proton's main strategic partner is Suzuki. Suzuki is just a small player and it is owned by VW. VW already distancing themselves from Proton.

The only logical partner is Honda right now. I thought it was Mitsubishi but looks like Mitsubishi won't want to return back again. wink.gif

Interesting choice will be Toyota. Although already own Perodua indirectly, ever remember of consolidating Proton and Perodua? This may make much sense, actually. UMWT is afterall, an GLC.

It is more like Proton didnt want Mitsubishi. Mitsubishi promise tehcnology transfer, but that never materialized. They want partner who can co-developed engine for them.
Any foreign partner who are willing to do that is the new partner for Proton.

so proton might benefit from :
honda hybrid tech
honda vtec engine
honda diesel
honda platform
new engine for lotus car

honda might benefit from :
proton ride&handling
proton REEV tech
lower cost of manufacturing
more support for their NSX project from lotus
more tax rebate for malaysian since using more local sourced part...sharing with proton
*
Proton won't get that many benefit. Honda will get most of benefit. Trust me.

If got new engine from honda pun syukur alhamdulilah.

so what happens to the Inspira?
*
Insipira is nothing more than one off deal. There is basically not much benefit from the rebadge in terms of technology transfer. Mitsubishi won't allow altering anything including engine and transmission. Only suspension.

And the engine and transmssion can only be use in Inspira, not other model. It is more like mitsibushi want to clear lancer stock.

So I wonder with the collobaration would it be another rebadging exercise?

I think the bigger problem is what to do with Lotus.
*
Probably not. Proton wants new engine to be co-developed with Honda. Mitsubishi won't give that.
Suzuki also don't know how to build engine.

Lotus can be sell for RM1. Proton already have the ride and handling transferred to them. But they won't do it. Later all blame them. So they will keep, but less fund to lotus.

Lotus, what did they learn from there ?
*
Lotus help them build campro, iafm and CFE. Also their ride and handling department. Now proton can design their own suspension.

Just spoke to mai friend, proton staff... The idea was like sharing a power train, platform and engine only... Honda will keep on producing honda cars.. Proton still producing proton's.. But chassis platform, powertrain and engine will be shared.. Toyota ae, subaru and toyota sharing the same platform, but both are free to make whatever mods they think possible... Proton is good in ride and handling, rigid state of the art chassis.. Honda is better department in engine and gearbox...

But i still belip, proton should go for conti-dna.. Vw is the best bang for bucks.. Unfortunately cronies are more important than making a good car for malaysian...
*
Agreed on platform and ride/handling. Proton is probably among best in terms of the ride and handling. In terms of platform, they have good platform like the exora, but it just don't have the opportunity to be spawn into production models.

For conti-dna, also agreed. But VW T&C probably doesnt give benefit to proton as they want.
