i also face that http timeout problem using utorrent. but in my case its only happened to a wireless connection (im using a wireless pci card). whenever i stop/exit utorrent, surfing will be back to normal. so i changed the torrent client to azereus (now using bitlord) n the problem solved.

use netstat -o to find the list of processes n the ports used. then open up task manager (ctrl+alt+del), click on view then check the pid box. here u can check which process uses which port. hope this helps. if u really wanna block bt then just use the access restriction option. check the 'block all p2p' checkbox to block bt. if u really2 wanna block bt ultimately then block all ports ranging from 6000 to 65000. this way bt wont event connect at all.

those numbers after the local/foreign address are the port numbers used by the processes. pid numbers are just for reference so that u know which application/process use which port.

of course when u restart pc the pid will be different. there's no need to put the pid into the access restriction page. u just need to put the port numbers there. i dunno about wow if it uses the same static port or dynamic 1. if its dynamic then u need to check the port range it uses.

maybe u set the modem to router mode then the ip of both router n modem conflict each other...

check modem n router ip. better set it like 192.168.2.1 (router) n 192.168.1.1 (modem)

i let the router to do the dialling n the modem in bridge mode only.

currently im sharing (n charging) my internet connection with neighbours around (wired n wireless). the only security mode i use is mac filter becos i want the specific pc/laptop with permission can connect to my network, for easy management as well. if i use the wep/wpa key, clients can give out the key to any1 n thats not good. with mac filter clients management will be much easier becos its easy to identify, easy to block services etc. anyway, its ur choice, if u really wanna protect ur network then i suggest u use wpa. i dont know very much abt it maybe other members can help.

try checking the ip setting in your xbox. u need to change the gateway ip address to the same 1 as the router's ip address. im not so sure abt this becos i dont have any xbox. anyway, u can read this...
http://www.chefelf.com/xbox/networking.php

mac filter is not secure becos every1 can spoof the mac address. they just need to find the valid/registered mac address by listening/sniffing the wireless signal. all 1 need to do then is just change the nic mac address to the same 1 as the valid 1 then voila!

abt that wireless security issue, there's another option to increase the security which is thru using wireless virtual lan. i havent tried this method yet but if something went wrong i might do something abt it...

fortunately my decision was right by connecting all my customers with cable instead of getting a high gain antenna. thanks for the opinion btw. sigh... even linksys like to rip off customers. better use the home made antenna from freeantenna.com - the windsurfer.

no need 2 use qos tho... just download the 'wrt54 script generator' then limit the bandwidth to whatever u want. i've limited my home torrent speed to somewhere around 80kb and enjoying good streaming speed from youtube...

thats how i blocked my customers from using torrent.

the most efficient solution is 2 limit the bandwidth of each user according to what u want. this can be achieved by using a program called 'wrt54 script generator'. u can limit bandwidth by mac address, ip address, ip range etc and the program will generate the script for u. then just copy and paste the script into the diagnostic page in ddwrt. save it as a startup script then reboot the router.

if that so either u share the bandwidth between the 5 pcs using ip range or u can also set the download rate to as minimum as u will, say like 32kbps then set the download ceiling to the bandwidth limit such as 256kbps. fyi, download rate is the guaranteed rate while the ceiling is the maximum rate. hope this helps...

i still have a doubt abt increasing a very little power in miliwatt that can actually harm the router. but prevention is way better than cure rite... sediakan payung sebelum hujan biggrin.gif

i think i've already told u guys abt a program called 'wrt54 script generator'. what it actually does is generate a startup script for the router. u can limit bandwidth by ip, mac address, ip ranges, ip groups or just fairly share the bandwidth to all pcs...

download from here...

http://rapidshare.com/files/17850458/generator.zip.html

after it generate the script, just copy the code into the diagnostic page in administration tab. then save it as startup script. hope this helps...
