i think its actually a known issue in v23 final. found this in the forum...
" V.23Final has a DHCP bug causing disconnects when renewing outside DHCP assigned address.

Fixed in 16.01.2006:
dhcpc lease update fixes (does not disconnect on lease update anymore) "

for details, go into ddwrt forum, search posts under word 'disconnection'.

another suggestion is to disable the power save mode for the wireless interface.

which channel do u set the wifi? actually u can check which channel is free from interference by using a program called bwlog. (http://www.hetos.de/bwlog.html) but the program need to be installed into the router. i donno its true or not but channel 6 is usually free.

btw, have u guys tried increasing the wireless transmit signal strength? ive tried setting it to 35 but never actually test it. anyone whos done it care to share the outcome?

prasys, i wonder if i can use the router to search for nearby ap & connect to it so that i can use (pinjam je hehehe... sweat.gif ) its internet connection?

flashing new firmware will overwrite any previous firmware inside the router. so no worry abt the memory space. i prefer the mini version becos i dont really use other features such as voip, hotspot, etc.

2nd hand wrt shud be less than rm200 depending on how long its being used. gaming + bt? ultimately u need ddwrt man... ive been using it for a while n very satisfied with it. 7 pcs sharing connection (4 gaming, 3 bt)... no lag at all but bt of course will be slower la...also depending on the streamx connection. if got 218.x ip then guaranteed very fast if got 60.x then very bad la. need to dc n dc until get 218.x

my connection also very stable... normally i reboot the router every 2-3 days. its good to get 218.x.x.x ip. but sometime need to change the ip, less vulnerable to attack i guess.

from the web interface we can set the connection upto 4096 but it can be set to even larger using the linux command line. i dont think it will ever crash but 'hang' is possible i guess. if u flash the latest sp1 final, at the status page u can see the total of maximum connections and the current total open connections. in my house, if 2 pcs use bt then total connections can reach ~1k. btw, mine is wrt54gsv4 with sp1 final mini.

just use static dhcp. under administration, services, dhcp server then enter the mac address n the desired static ip for it. this way the pc wont have any lease time at all. btw, regarding the lost connection on the router, try setting the maximum ports to 4096. its under administration, ip filter setting.

for balancing the bandwidth between online games (dota) n bt i dont really use the qos feature. what i do is by blocking some ports so that bt can only use some of it. in my house with 6 pcs sharing the bandwidth i've blocked the ports from 6000 to 25000 to all the pcs that doing lots of bt. fyi, i've used the qos feature b4 but somehow i cant come up with a balance settings for all of the pcs + the overall connection speed also drop. with this setting however, maximum download speed for every1 is not that high (around 30kb) but since i dont get any complaint from my housemates then i think its fine...

@chern

just use the access restriction feature. create a new policy, then add all the pcs u want to restrict into the list. at the 'blocked services' create a new services (such as 'bt') choose both tcp n udp then put in 6000 n 25000 as the ports. dont check the 'catch all p2p protocols'. if u do then all the pcs in the list wont be able to bt at all...

right now im sharing my internet with 6 other ppl (2 houses) & they all located a floor above me. my concern is that they only got a weak signal from my gsv4. i have 3 solutions in mind rite now...
1. buy a high gain antenna (7 or 8dbi) (>$150)
2. drag a cable up their houses then put a switch in there. (>$60 each)
3. buy another access point & put it in 1 of the houses or in my house (gsv4 - front, new ap - back) (>$150)

whats the best solution in term of cost & the quality of the signal. becos i need to make sure all my customer get good internet speed. rite now im thinking of getting another access point...

this can be configured using wds rite? but need 2 wrt54g, am i rite?

my wrt54gsv4 acted strange lately... sometimes it restarted itself from what i see thru its uptime. hopefully changing the transmit power to 40mw doesnt cause this. i've also change the tx to right antenna becos some ppl said in ddwrt forum that the right antenna is closer to the circuit board... dunno if it makes any difference.

another question... do any of u ever use this template from freeantennas.com? here's the pic. user posted image u just print it on a piece of paper then stick it onto a piece of aerofoil then put them together on the router's antenna. u can find the video of the how-to on metacafe. just do a search on wifi booster.
