if youre a fresh grad and you take a position as a field engineer what should you be expecting out there? do they dump you out in the field straight away? by yourself ?

and female field engineer ... any comments?

Field engineer. What exactly is that position does also not much ppl know, like mine was offered as field/survey engineer. I think they gave such title is mean that you are suppose to go out to the field quite frequent for a very long period of time, i guess.

About the your job scope, dont worry about that, company usually will teach you everything before hand only send you out there to war or to die smile.gif) And you must produce result in the end.

Female at the site ah... Very very rare, in my company only 1 female who go out there. I dont know what is your job scope, but beware that site only have metal and water (offshore), or metal, rock, and sand (onshore). So it is not a nice place after all.

Opportunity... everyone will tell you a lot of things, you also dont know which one to listen to in the end rclxub.gif
I working for an inspection company. How about you? What is your company doing?
Long period of time, for my company, it might take up to 3 ~ 8 weeks on the site. That's a quite a long period of time on site. But i believe once you get use to site work, it is very hard for you to come back to office work, when you have to chance to come back to office, you might need to think twice, that's my personal point of view.

After back from site, depends on your company policy, some give long leave, some short leave, but if your work like sh!t, cannot finish or a lot of things cannot settle, then your leave will be minus out. It is depends on the company. I know if the site or rig got female, it is like the world going to fall apart kind of big news, imagine the rig somewhere in thailand, the news can reach all the way to malaysia to china or philipine something like that. Dunno why lar, it even more powerful if the rig got shemale or lady-boy, it will be the laugh joke of all the ppl on the rig of asia. LOL!

Is there any kind-hearted people here willing to do a summary of this thread. Tired of browsing page by page.

My main concern is that which degree should I take in universtiy so that I can work in an oil and gas company. I plan to do engineering.

I know that most of you here will say petroleum, chemical engineering. By the way, how about mechanical and industrial engineering? The demand for the latter in oil and gas companies is high?

Hope you all share your experience here, preferably head-ons!

U can try working there.. good place to start. but mentally must be strong becoz from my experience they only offer a low salary especially to the freshie, and u must cover other position also even u just a freshie. and just prepare to urself to travelling. but u can learn from there for 1~2 Year and then jumping to other company. Quite easy to get a job at dialog becoz they have a lot of problem to recruit a staff, no one wanna work with low pay izzit?? gud luck to you.

Took their online quiz, quite fun though. But i dont understand why must you have to EIT only they hire you, then they pay you extra for the EIT if you got it? Do their cover everything for you to take the EIT test?
