And infact converting EURO locally is bad idea giving the current wawasan rate of 4.315. Much better change to US$ 1st & thereafter switch to EURO once arriving at destination country.

If 4.28 is the current market rate & so do Bank Negara current rate of 4.266, meaning EURO also not well traded here in M'sia.

OK, just ngam-ngam Shopping ! Bkt Bintang & just snap these images of the exhnagers outside BB Plaza & far end near Maybank. also have 2.
I found out Today, the best money changers are the one beside maybank & the one just right at the corner of BB Plaza (inside wan not out)..All very competitive and certain rates better than Wawasan but not all.. ![]() Ok this one not the best (Outside BB Plaza) but the only one I can take without them kacau me haha: ![]() Compare this wth Today Wawasan rate & judge for yourselve: QUOTE Wawasan Sentosa Holdings (M) Sdn Bhd Pengurup Wang Berlesen / Licensed Money Changer DATE : 20 / 11 / 2010 Unit Currency We Buy We Sell 1 US DOLLAR 3.1000000 3.1150000 1 GREAT BRITAIN POUND 4.9700000 5.0300000 1 SINGAPORE DOLLAR 2.3980000 2.4080000 1000 JAPANESE YEN 37.100000 38.000000 100 HONG KONG DOLLAR 40.100000 40.900000 1 AUSTRALIAN DOLLAR 3.0650000 3.0900000 100 THAI BHAT 10.450000 10.600000 1 Juta INDONESIAN RUPIAH 350.00000 354.00000 100 INDIAN RUPEES 7.1500000 7.4000000 100 PHILIPPINE PESO 7.0500000 7.4000000 1 NEW ZEALAND DOLLAR 2.4000000 2.4500000 100 CHINESE RMB 47.300000 47.900000 100 NEW TAIWAN DOLLAR 10.450000 10.720000 1 SWISS FRANC 3.1300000 3.1800000 100 SAUDI ARABIA RIYAL 81.600000 82.900000 1 EURO 4.2350000 4.2650000 1 CANADIAN DOLLAR 3.04 3.1050000 1000 KOREAN WON 2.8000000 2.9800000 |

All those currency converter just show the best of the best which is impossible to get in any Money changer in malaysia-lah...The best yardstick to get the real rate are from Money changers themselve and the only benchmark i can find from the net is Wawasan
Too bad Wawasan no longer the cheapest in town already...lost its glories |

You have your point but so far in KL, I can't find any money changer sreally marked to market. Except certain well traded currencies such as US$, SG$ & Rupiah. Others not even close to the market rate for eg..Thai baht, Taiwan $, Riel, Dong & more..
Those are badly traded currencies due to what you mentioned above & therefore almost impossible if comparing to the yahoo & XE link |

Not many people knew those info here or even know what is buy & sell here. that's is why this thread created for info & education purposes. Otherwise why ppl still keep asking...Why people still confuse between buy & sell or even converting the currency here.

You are right for certain well traded currency and for the case of japan, the diff between market rate (I used Bank Negara) and the Money Changer rate for Yen, the diff is small only i.e ~ RM0.05 for every 100 yen. So it will be hassle and wasting time doing double conversion.
However for those not well traded currencies in malaysia such as Vietnamese Dong or even Taiwanese Dollar wth very obvious diff between the market rate & money changer rate, Converting to US$ & thereafter to the country currency will be a better choice even having to pay double commission. So it's really depending on whether the price diff between the market (XE/ Bank Negara) vs the money changer rate in M'sia. QUOTE(cybermaster98 @ Dec 2 2010, 10:09 AM) |

Singapore is well traded here and almost marked to market by most money changers wth slight or small differences. So no point converting to another currency which will attract double commission.
Furthermore, do take not on the petrol, toll and parking just to get the best rate in town esp those in bkt Bintang..unless you stay very near there-lah |

If can't find, meaning not well traded for sure and you will be expecting worst ever currency conversion. Better don't convert direct here. Easier if you convert to US$ & thereafter reaching Bangladesh, switch the US$ to their currency

As Kucingfight, do not confused those not well traded currencies with those popular & well traded one in M'sia. Rupiah is well traded here and why you need to change to US$ & change back to Rupiah in Indonesia, you will be sattracting double commission

Sunwy pyramid lousy-lah. Try Wisma Atria or the money changer opposite Uncle Lim at Ikano..not bad.
Otherwise simple just visit MV wawasan. they are the rate references in M'sia haha.. Sometime the offer the best rate but sometime not so good rate compare to the Ikano/Atria wan. |

Atria (Yes shopping mall at D. jaya-lah) is good if you intend to goto Korea. haha. others the rate is almost similar to Wawasan or worst. Ikano, They have competitive rate and almsot the same as wawasan but their Singapore, I think Ruppiah too not as good as wawasan.
The best rate currently offered by those in front of BB Plaza in Bkt Bintang..Much cheaper than wawasan. |

Haha..That wawasan at LG ctr court of Mid Valley has been discussed since 2-3yrs ago here. They are the first & I think right now (Still) the only one publishing daily exchange rate on website:
http://www.wawasanmoneychanger.com.my/exchangeRates.asp PPl visiting this thread will use them as a yardstick to compare wth others. |

Yes hv to pay twice for commission but still worth the effort and sometime much better.. One of it in Taiwanses $. You get ~ RM50 per every RM1000 you swicth from RM to US$ & thereafter to NT$ bcos the money changer in Taipei probably regulated and thus the airport & the city banks offering the same rate.
If you can find good money changer in Thailand, Doing this way is better bcos NT$ & baht almost having similar rate. |
