Gaming performance-wise, GT645M > GT640M. But I guess online games don't really require a lot of GPU power anyway haha

HDD rotation speed is more important than HDD capacity. The faster the rotational speed, the faster the overall speed of your notebook since programs and files will load faster. Read here for more info: http://tanji.me/?p=56

In this case, the INspiron 14R SE recommended earlier would perform better because of the faster 7,200rpm HDD. You could easily make up for the storage space by getting external HDDs brows.gif

Still, if you insist on 1TB, the Lenovo recommended earlier comes with it nod.gif

SLI generally refers to the operation of two GPUs at once.
Solid-State-Drive (SSD) is like a big-pendrive for data storage, its way faster, quieter, cooler, last longer than a normal HDD. But SSDs are expensive, and the space available is pretty limited.
For more details, read here: http://tanji.me/?p=56 icon_rolleyes.gif

My M14x used to run on an 7,200rpm HDD, then I upgraded to the SSD. I have personally experienced the phenomenal speed gain from the upgrade brows.gif
SSD + HDD means you have a HDD and a tiny space of SSD for caching. I don't think you can install games in the SSD.

Sifu,

I have previously asked before regarding on the recommendation of a notebook in which my requirements are similar to the quoted requirements but I still cannot decide. Between these 3 brands of notebook range, I know that there's no such thing as the best but could you briefly summarized these 3 notebooks' advantages in terms of performance, ergonomic design, reliability and/or overall after sales service so that I can see which are my priorities? And if I decide on one, should I downgrade to Windows 7 as I'm worried on the software incompatibility on Windows 8. Really appreciate your advice in this matter. Thanks. notworthy.gif

Thanks for the message notworthy.gif
But I am no sifu lol

Good to know that you understand that there is no perfect laptop out there, it all depends on what you want and whether the notebook suits you or not icon_rolleyes.gif
In short:
All 3 models have the same CPU performance.
GPU performance: GT645M (Asus) > GT640M (Dell and Lenovo)
Reliability and quality: All 3 models are budget-line notebooks, so they should be more or less similar
Warranty duration: Asus and Lenovo (2 years) > Dell (1 year)
Warranty support: Dell (on-site) > Lenovo > Asus
Speakers: Dell > Asus and Lenovo
Keyboard: Lenovo > Dell and Asus
Stock HDD speed: Dell is faster (shorter program and file load times) than both the Asus and the Lenovo

RM2699 for the Full HD i7 version? 2nd hand right? hmm.gif

The performance difference is not very big nod.gif
The i5 is already enough for games, go for i7 only if you are doing intensive rendering, simulations etc.

The Y480 comes with an i7 processor, so the CPU performance is better than the i5 in the N56 (i5) variant.. but it depends on whether you need the i7 or not. Otherwise no real point in choosing the Y480 over the N56.
*I'm assuming portability is not a problem for you

Not recommending ultrabooks as there do not perform as well as normal notebooks at intensive illustrator work and also games.

Hi, thanks for your recommendation, have you had any experience using Asus laptops? as I heard some say not recommended to get?

Also, I think the Dell Inspiron 14R is priced at RM2670, instead of RM2049 mentioned? or could you kindly lead me to the link of the 1 that can sell at RM2049 please? if you don't mind..

thanks in advance!

It's actually 2899 and the seller don't provide any extra things like bags .. it says new unit though.

Don't really like the design of the Asus.. i think gonna go for Y480 or Y580. Thanks anyways
