Just decided to try my luck here. See if there are members here who share the same passion as me. This thread is to share any tips , lobang , off road tracks or even photos of your truck. Maybe with enough members here, we can organize TT or some off road adventure.
I will start with mine first.

1. Defender 110. Year 1997. Black in color. Fully done up except for the winch system( looking for "warn") own it for a year plus.

Love the attention when travelling in kL.Hehehe. Very sturdy engine . Only turn off is the diesel rumbling engine.Been to alot of places with her. Up to Thailand and down to Singapore. Only problem is the lack of specialize workshop here in KL .

Anyone else here? Even if you don't have owned one but a big fan of the defender , feel free to join this thread.

Cheers

Diesel consumption for the 300TDI is quite good I must say. Almost a 60L tank can get me up to 700km.

Humm... 20k is not a bad price but bear in mind of the building up cost. Make sure the engine doesn't have sign of leakage. The chassis got any sign of damage. The under carriage is Rust-free. O yeah. Thing to check most important is the gear box , shaft and clutch. Labour for it don't come cheap.

Btw, I know of a shop that is selling the new puma defender( ford engine)
They are selling the exact same specs of the army. Brand new truck . With high rise roof, roof rack , spot lights, folding laptop table , convoy lights and much more. Was told these are the same batch use in the Malaysia army. You can choose your body color. Black in color look so "mission impossible " you can register it for civilian use. Less than rm200 000.

I will try to upload the pictures. You will drool.

My first major overhaul due to conrod failure .

The Conrod broke into 2 pieces. Causing major damage to the piston and block. Conclusion, heat fatigue and maybe wear and tear stress from long distance driving.( I think there was already cracks at the conrod thus, it gave way suddenly)

This happen on my way back from hat yai Thailand. Check out the damage of the 300TDI engine.

First sign of the bad news. This happen around 11pm and the highway was dark and eerie .

As you can see, engine oil spilled. Not a good sign.

The damage of the piston.

And now. Brace yourself. The Hole......

On both side of the block. You can actually see through.

Total damage.
More than rm10 000. Most expensive trip to Thailand.

Excellent choice . 2 doors aka pick-up truck. Lots of them in Cameron highland . Try to source from there. You may get a very good price.

+1.

I hear you bro. Yes , it's a pretty fun journey once you start to beautify your defender. There are tonnes of accessories hardware.

I am on that journey now.

That I believe it's the new Puma Defender series. I love the new interior . The price sound just about right. The station wagon (10 seaters) cost around 225k..

Just test drove the double cab the other day at range rover Federal Highway. After much thought decided to go wth the collorado..more practical as the cabin behind of the defender is small!!

Totally agree. Pretty small leg room for your passangers hence I chose the station wagon version.

But how did you find the new interior cabin? Lovely? Or just plain looking?

Hey man!

I'm about to dump in some funds to begin a lifelong journey of owning a Defender. Getting a 110 300TDI. Hopefully it'll all work out.

Initial price is very low (for 300TDI) but it'll probably cost about 12k to fix it up (not including interior yet). Its a project car, so it'll improve bit by bit (hopefully).

May I know where you send for service, and how you got yours? Mine is a 1997 model, ex-TNB. Anything I should watch out for? I haven't put down the deposit yet, maybe in a few weeks time.

Your advice is very much appreciated!

Hi. Welcome to the club. Yes , that about the price for the transformation . Mine is the 1996 model 300TDI 110. Well, I brought mine at a premium price from a showroom . Had to do quite a fair bit of upgrades thereafter .
Things to look out are the engine mounts, engine leakages and also the undercarriage . Check out if there are leaks at the differential box( located at the front and rear)transfer box and your gearbox. I have seen some of them driving without servicing them and when mechcanical failure happen( often when you are off-roading) after dismantle the box. hold and behold, not a drop of gear oil was found in most cases thus causing frictions and totally unrepairable damages. This will set you back as the repair bill will( for sure) cost you a massive bomb.( take my word for it. )

If you still keen to know more and the workshop I frequent, than do PM me for the information.

Cheers
