Hi all,

Where exactly do you find the milk frother in IKEA. I hunted high and low and ended up asking the store assistant on the exact location. She tells me it's out of stock.

But when I checked online, they still have 100+ in stock sleep.gif

Daiso one works exactly the same, and is cheaper.

Ben's Roaster has single origin & blend espresso that you can try. Maybe you can taste the difference between them there.

After testing out a couple of milk for steaming, found that no milk is the same.

GOD TIER
- Farmhouse fresh milk[pink package](*Most expensive milk, best microfoam)

BEST VALUE TIER
- Magnolia fresh milk (*Good amount of microfoam, decently priced)
- First Choice fresh milk (*Good microfoam consistency, decently priced)

SHIT TIER
- Happy Farm Fresh Milk [2L bottle with pink cover] (*Cannot get microfoam no matter how you steam it)
- Dutch Lady Full Cream Milk [blue packaging] (*Steaming this milk will result in gigantic bubbles appearing after steaming)

Getting proper microfoam is one thing.. the taste of the milk is more important. Previously, Magnolia was OK.. but now, I find that it has lost it's sweetness. Farmhouse is still my preferred choice although surprisingly, I recently tried Dutch Lady's Fresh Milk and it was not bad. Price wise, only 20 cents different.. I'd still go back to Farmhouse.

You can get microfoam with almost any milk.. even low fat or skim..

farmhouse is a little strong for me, i prefer more neutral ones tongue.gif

I read that Breville BES870 online saying that its a good model for home barista. Anyone using this encountering any problems? Am planning to get this for my home smile.gif
*
im using this model, good machine for home use. The grinder is the same one as their standalone smart grinder, but less grinding steps. After 5months of using it, so far so good.

Frothing is slow(45-60sec) compared to commercial grade machines(10-15sec), but it gives you time to adjust and tune your desired frothiness nod.gif

Hi all coffee lovers,

I'm totally new to this coffee machine and never handles any coffee machine before. Me and my wife loves coffee (we only drink coffee during weekends) and would like to get 1 espresso machine for home use. Budget around RM2k-RM3.5k. Have been searching on the net on machines and understanding more about making good coffee etc. Interesting! but still a lot to learn.

So far, I have shortlisted a few machines and hope sifus could advise and comment on the machine.

1) Nuova Simonelli Oscar: RM3,500 (with bundled accessories ie. s/s tamper, 2 s/s pitchers, 2 shot glasses, thermometer & knock box)
Question:
Is this machine suitable for beginner like me?
Which brand/model entry level grinder should I buy? Budget max RM1k.

2) Rancilio Silvia: RM3,450 (standard package)

3) Gaggia Classic: RM2,238 (standard package)

4) WPM KD-210S2 / KD-270 : RM2,599 / RM2,999 (standard package)

5) Breville BES870 : RM3,350 (standard package)
As mentioned just now, I only drink coffee during weekends. On weekdays, very unlikely due to morning got no time, need to rush to work and evening, reached home quite late and avoid coffee afraid later 'sleep standing' due to caffeine.

Base on my my potential drinking frequency, should I pay more for by getting Oscar or Silvia or should I get entry level machine eg. Gaggia Classic/ Evolution or WPM KD-210S2? and then pay slightly more for better grinder eg NS Grinta, Baratza Virtuso etc?

Thanks in advance for any advise, view and comment. Thanks.

Cheers.

I can only vouch for the BES870 as i have it. What I can say is that since you are not a frequent drinker(I make mine on the weekdays during rush hour, need about 10minutes to prepare 2cups, inclusive of starting up and clean up). The build in grinder is okay to use, but tends to spill out due to a smaller portafilter. For an all in one, it does get the job done; so no major complains for me.

Where did you get the quote for the Oscar though? Seems like a pretty sweet deal to me, sans the grinder.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Initially aiming for BES870, but now is pricier with GST, am monitoring and waiting lazada for better deal.

Oscar, got the quote from Dankoff Coffee. Yes, very good price, the cheapest so far. Even amazon and ebay are selling at around USD1,200.

How much you paid for your BES870? from lazada?

Cheers.

I bought my BES870 for 2999 with 5% cash rebate & a bag of coffex mokka beans at Robinsons Mid Valley. I've also seen it go for 2799 at ESH Empire Subang a couple weeks back.

hi coffee drinkers
where do you guys get your coffee beans from in kl/ klang valley?
I want freshly roasted coffee beans which are about 1 to 2 weeks old
any recommendations for single/ blends?
when living in Sydney I used to be able to easily get fresh coffee beans almost anywhere
*
antipodean cafe has roasted beans usually within 2weeks to a month old. Not sure about others.

Is it true that the roasting method would also influence the taste profile of the coffee beans?

i.e.
light roast = more origin flavor ?
*
Pretty much, yes. It also depends on the beans though

^ What do you mean by it?

Do you mean to say that some beans will lose its origin flavor
depending on the roast, while others don't?

Or do you mean to say that some beans can only be roasted in a certain way,
else the taste profile is undrinkable?
*
I am not the coffee expert, but from what I read some beans taste better being roasted in a certain way.

i.e lets say Bean A tastes very acidic when roasted lightly, however flavor improves when roasted darker, whereas Bean B has nice floral/citrus flavor when roasted lightly, but flavor does not improve when roasted darker.

Then there are blends, which mixes different types of beans to achieve a certain flavor.

thats why im asking sifu here  cool2.gif
im new to espresso and the price diffrence make me think the nuovo is better since it is more expensive  tongue.gif
*
The nuova is indefinitely superior to the BES870 as it can be used for commercial purposes (bes870 can only make like 5-6cups before it needs to cool off). It has a commercial spec steam wand as opposed to the puny one on the BES870 as well. But the only reason why I went for the BES870 is because it had a built-in grinder, which is good enough for me.

Buy what you can afford, although if you say long-run; it'll be hands down the Oscar.
