There's a place called Bean Depot in PJ that I think it's a playground for coffee lovers like you and me. smile.gif Try try...
*
But you have to call Beans Depot before you visit, because it's not really a cafe (the owner is a coffee roaster and also a wedding planner), and the "playground" is very small (like a medium size living room).

The Brew Culture cafe at Plaza Damas (same building as Top Brew) also lets you pour your own latte art.

Budget French Press:

For better quality French Press and more reputable brand, try Bodum or Hario (can get at Isetan and Metrojaya kitchen section).

Any good coffee in subang area?
*
Taste is very subjective... especially when it comes to coffee. Everyone has his own preference of good coffee. For example, some people likes dark roast espresso with very low acidity, some might not. Some people like to use a creamier Farmhouse milk in their Latte while others prefer a more refreshing Greenfield or FarmFresh milk.

Can try the following near subang area, I think they are quite good (if the coffee is made by senior barista):
MyEspresso Cafe subang jaya

Whisk @Empire Subang Gallery

Thanks! I've heard of Bodum. But it seems to be pretty much the same thing though. Brewed coffee should taste pretty much the same, right?  tongue.gif
*
Well, mechanism is the same, but with different quality of material. I've seen some very cheap china-made French Press only less than RM10, it uses low quality glass (easy to break) and strainer (can't filter the coffee ground properly).

Is this good? Compare to
Hario Coffee Hand Grinder Skerton
*
I haven't tried Krups grinder before so I can't compare, but you can google around. Many people say that Hario hand grinder produces more consistent coffee grounds than electric coffee grinder below RM400.

The best "budget" electric burr grinder below RM400 are those Taiwanese "小飛馬" style grinders (Feima / Akira / Tiamo brands). You can see those at some of the local cafes (Typica cafe, Await, Coffee Famille), it's around RM300 if you buy in Taiwan. In malaysia you can only buy it online (around RM400).

If you are interested, can contact mycoffeeicon@gmail.com, he's a online seller for Japanese / Taiwanese coffee makers and accessories, his FB page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coffee-icon-...426775530691456

oh, Coffee Ritual has just re-stock their Porlex hand grinder (RM230).
Porlex's build quality looks more solid than Hario (thicker crank and metal body)~

Thx for the info.. will hunt for it today.. smile.gif between, any1 expert in syphon brewing method here?? I am getting my machine soon, wanna know which grinding level is more suitable for syphone machine..
*
I've only tried using syphon a few times, so I'm not an expert. But as far as I know, there isn't any fixed grind size for syphon, it all depends on your brewing style and the extraction time. Almost every cafe has slightly different syphon brewing style (and grind size). Basically longer contact time needs coarser grind size.

If the contact time is around 1 minute, we use medium grind size (slightly coarse than sugar).
If more than 1.5 minute to 2 minute, we use medium coarse grind size.

Best way to find out the correct grind size is to visit Jin Yi (Coffee Ritual) cafe or Artisan HQ,
sit at the brew bar and order a syphon coffee, then ask the barista to show you the coffee ground before they brew. Go touch the coffee ground and "feel" the coarseness.

Hey all of u guys who make your own specialty coffee at home (using real beans not 3-in-1 packet or nescafe)... how much is the cost price of producing a single cup of cappucino?

Let's say assuming u use farmhouse milk
*
Just a rough estimate:

Let says Farmhouse milk price is RM9 per litre, and we get the coffee beans from RAW cafe which is RM40 per 250g.

Single shot Cappuccino = 7~9g espresso (RM1.45) + 5~6 oz of steam milk (RM1.60) = RM3.05 per cup
Double shot Cappuccino = 17~20g espresso (RM3.20) + 4~5oz of steam milk (RM1.35) = RM4.55 per cup

Depends on how much milk and coffee you use, the range is around RM2~RM4.50.
