these are example of how local sellers gave a bad impression of china products..
it's predatory selling and really pity and empathize those noob buyers who hardly do any reading/research/homework..
if it's not for it's predatory pricing, it does have it's fair value if one were to buy it directly from taobao themselves..

RM699 for a non-akira, loud as fuark, inconsistent and static crazy grinder..?

here a real bummer.. RM2,599 for a ~2-bar steam espresso machine?!?!
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

dude must be proud of a once-owned eupa madness for RM2,499.. imagine he can trade-in for an oscar and hardly need to do a contra?

so please be careful at purchasing stuff on something as niche as specialty coffee gears.. these pics were taken from a online selling portal in m'sia.. they're not the exception ba

Lol. Those expensive plan b bean is not that bad after switch to ZD-16. In fact, it may due to grinder matter. Haha. It does not have strong aroma, not my preference.

Espressolab charges GST on bean. It is espresso blend with few origins, balance taste. That time i havent received ZD-16, not fair to comment much. There is other option out with no GST.
*
1st thing 1st.. does your zd-16 requires mod or you're good at that #12 setting for espresso? by the way, the zd-16 looks good.. how about a full setup pic there? thumbup.gif
got an idea as to why certain establishment charges gst on the beans.. perhaps their yearly revenue has hit the rm500k to be a gst enable establishment.. that's why they charge.. same goes to antipodean (but why sweat the small stuff when you go buy those >rm40 beans?!)

QUOTE(sapora @ Jul 21 2015, 09:17 PM)
oh i see, there is the diff eh between pressurized n depressurized?? hmm i might have to check it out on youtube, thanks!
*
pressurized will give you fake crema.. very shiok sendiri one.. it infuses air bubbles onto the espresso crema.. the unpressurized, you better get your grind setting and tamping right, else it'll be kopi o kurang manis.. laugh.gif

QUOTE(LittleGhost @ Jul 21 2015, 10:37 PM)
RM60 mahal bro. Antipodean 20++ only for 250g only leh.

Is this Plan B we're talking about?

Btw, the latest Frank Laurent opened at Udini Mall is a "roaster". They brought in a huge roaster for display. Donno is for show or has seen any use la. So far I went there ask they say no jual...yet.

Another one is Macallum, who roasts their own stuff, but last I talked to the taukeh he say he sendiri also not cukup use, donno how to sell.

Penang memang is jipet ones.
Yep.

Depressurized will give you an "upgrade", but you'll need to get a good grinder to boot. Since a good grinder is always necessary, you might as well upgrade your grinder first.
*
bro, how about over to mainland/providence? heard several new gigs at autocity/juru?
if not, travel to ipoh and hunt those freshly roasted "white coffee" beans.. they may not make the best espresso ba, but we're curious..

QUOTE(mel5582 @ Jul 21 2015, 10:55 PM)
I buy these from KF. Cheap and good. RM29 for 250g and if you love espresso with full body, this is not bad. This is my go to beans..
*
glad to know kf is still selling highlander.. have you tried antipodean's merdeka coffee yet?

Not yet ler.. how much are their beans? I'm quite cheapskate too because I drink a lot of coffee lol.. that day I bought some COE beans from Coffea, RM70+ for 200 grams. Koyak.. the taste is good.. but more like gourmet coffee. If it's cheap and good, might consider buying some to consume lol
*
rm26.50/250gram.. surprizingly it's the same price for all their beans.. from the basic espresso blend to more exotic indo/java varieties.. if you can catch their roast cycle(twice a month), it'll be fresh as ever.. the stock that the barista uses are those 1kg weekly runs.. we bought ours at the atria..

Btw, Taiping also got coffee factory.. don't need to go till Ipoh. But not sure how if they have blends..

I'm from Penang also.. but not really familiar with the coffee scene there. Tried quite a number of cafes, but just a handful that is really tasty.
*
didn't know that(taiping).. we're wary of robusta beans in those local mom & pop's setup or those kopitiam supplier type of roasters..
does taiping carries the "white coffee" blend as well?

the guys at pulp are taking order for reg barbers tamper. i'm ordering from them as 53mm tamper is hard to find.
*
53mm? what machine are you using? ... how much for the rb tamper offered?
wouldn't it be an overkill if someday soon you move up to a commercial sized portafilter machine and this 53mm go to waste? hmm.gif

I dont know how zd-12 looks inside. It supposes same. The removalable outer static burr ring need some adjustment to make it fine enuf for espresso. But it involve simple step. Remove a locking screw, then turn the outer burr to finer, then put back the locking screw. Can refer to this youtube video for better understanding. I dont know what u mean by modifying it with washer that u mention previously.

what do you mean by.. you don't know how a zd-12 looks inside?! .. isn't there enough info on the internet to find out?!

Im happy with my stock oscar performance. As long as it can prodece those addictive perfect shot aroma that on par with cafe coffee, i wont do upgrade. Im not aim for perfection. I may just stick onto current setup until they stop working, then switch to those poisoning machine.

Do u think using timer to switch on this machine will spoil the machine one day? I know it needs vacuum breaker for optimal fuction with timer.
*
it takes time for your machine to heat up properly, thus is a wise setup to include a timer to the mains..
the greater concern here is... how tough are those espresso machine circuitry can take irregular/fluctuating currents?.. you see, we attached voltage regulators to electronics and leave those "appliances" alone.. some places have dirty AC currents.. some don't..

QUOTE(wshazi @ Jul 22 2015, 02:34 PM)
currently using breville870. its just few months old. at the moment, i'm still satisfied with the performance. existing tamper came together with the machine. most likely i will be upgrading to better grinder instead of machine.

quoted 400+ for the tamper. its reg barber. will be selling at ebay if i'm upgrading.
*
sure, it's just an opinion.. we too have been eyeing for a white reg barber tamp for sometime but find it hard to justify the price.. have you heard of pullman's tamp?

First thing, I'm liking the enthusiasm! lol

I source mostly from eBay and help from friends and family to bring back from overseas (usually Sweet Marias). Favorites are African coffees so I have mostly those but thinking to get Americans now that they are at the peak of supply
I roast with a GeneCafe 300g batch roaster so definitely not at a commercial drum roaster level but decent enough to train on color, smell and input temps

These are the beans i have with me currently  (just single origins, no skills in blending yet). Never roasted above FullCity (2nd crack) cos I LOVE acidity smile.gif
Ethiopian Sidamo
Ethiopian Kaffa Michiti - Finishing
Kenya Nyeri AB
Colombia Huila
Zambia Terranova
Peru COOPARM - Finishing
Burundi Muyinga Kavugangoma - Finishing
Sulawesi Taroja Peaberry
Costa Rica Terrazu

We can talk over PM and I can share what are the cup characters too for each and see what interests you smile.gif
*
we're actually eyeing this genecafe roaster too at taobao.. great to know that you're actually using it.. smile.gif

yes, you're right, it's about there(pricewise).. of course we don't aim to be doing it big/commercial..
we're more curious about the sustainability of getting good green/raw coffee beans. the machine is just a 1-time off capex..
we were told that to officially import green coffee bean, we required an AP/permit for it..

Hi All,

updating my first humble and budget set-up.

Gaggia Classic (2nd hand), replaced with Silvia steam wand, OPV adjusted to 9bar. Dismantled the whole machine up to the boiler 2 days after receiving the machine. Initially, was worry about it, but managed to assemble it back after cleaning and all are working fine.  sweat.gif

Currently, still waiting for my grinder from China. Have been using Merdeka coffee beans from Antipodean. RM26.50 per 250g for all beans. Plus, free 1 coffee for every purchase of beans.  rclxms.gif So far, tried their Old Dark and Mandehling Estate.  biggrin.gif

has been pulling 2 cups of latte on daily basis (double into 2 single) and espresso shots has been good with fresher beans and proper grind size. However, still a long way to go to get a consistent microfoam.  cry.gif

Finally got my home barista accessories yesterday! rclxm9.gif

I have 1 new bottomless portafilter which cant fit my classic, therefore, I'm letting it go. Please PM to deal, refer my sale post below:
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?act=ST&f...0#entry75733123

Enjoy your coffee!

Cheers.

Where can i get fresh non expensive, Decaffeinated coffee bean? My previous source auresso has no more decaf bean sad.gif
*
the washing process for decaf beans are actually quite toxic.. besides, if you're drinking 100% arabica, it's unlikely you get caffeine poisoning so easily.. unless your tolerance for caffeine is very very low (or you've went limit up for the day?)

U scared me a moment. Swiss water process should be non toxic. It does not involve solvent.

I have sensitive heart. I thought i will get tolerance to it after sometimes, but it is still there. Haha. I realized the palpitation comes when i take single perfect shot. Before this my shot inconsistant, now they r getting more consistant, even 100% arabica can cause palpitation.

Im getting siphon & butane burner for fun from taobao. Timemore brand. Air freight. They may arrive this weekend

hhmmnn... you're right about the stronger extraction with a good espresso machine vis-a-vis some other methods of brewing/devices.. it's kinda tough if you love coffee but having difficulties with the caffeine..
so you're experimenting other brew methods liao? thumbup.gif quite scary shipping glassware from china.. you've got ballz.. laugh.gif

agree... whichever calculators you use.. the value of the said 250g will come up to about less than RM20 (after the 1 free cuppa factored in)..
