if ur game & movie is not 5.1 encoded means same case.
also considering std laptop which only provide headphone jack (left & right), it will be troublesome unless u purchase a usb 5.1 sound kad seperately

I see but it's okay if the music and movies is encoded for 5.1 channels right? And I most probably using it for desktop laugh.gif
*
that is the only drawback i can think of.
this R501 set is quite worth one

"optical in" sound card? u better look for external surround decoder (unknown pricing) or 2nd hand av receiver (agak 500) which is more suitable for ps3 usage

X3 for desktop as monitor speaker, Aego M at Hall for movie, live concert and of course music.
*

yup, x3 is best use for near field, while aego m is recommended by many members here to placed far apart (wide setup)

My mobo have DTS thingy. Will it work with the speaker when I use DAC or I need DTS DVD etc? I mostly watch those downloaded video. BTW, Ibasso just confirm me that D42 can be use as a standalone DAC for PC. Hopefully they didn't misread my inquiry and I really can't wait to test out D42 Mamba. A portable DAC/ amp which I can use for my headphone and mobile.
*

movie or music source file must have encoded DTS in stereo or surround.
the DAC u buy mostly just do stereo

Can beat C3?
c3 is something much weaker than its outlook sweat.gif

I use it mostly on Gaming.
I'm looking at Edifier C3 now. May I know is it a good choice for my budget? Does anyone know where can i get it with a best price?
Sorry that I'm asking too many questions in a time.
Thank you guys for help in advance~ smile.gif

Those hifi shop subwoofers can they act like R401 subwoofer ? Kinda noob in this thingy .
Thanks
*

R401 has power amplifier to pump ur sansui and crossover the bass to subwoofer which is pump by another amp unit.
those shop subwoofer has the crossover & amplifier for bass but nothing to pump ur speaker.
best choice for low cost is look for 2nd hand integrated amp or AV receiver in mudah.
make sure they are in working condition

Should I get M200MKIII or directly jump to X4? Anyone here ever tested any of this speaker?
*

all are different class sleep.gif

M200 is multimedia speaker. deep bass good treble, best for general pc game & movie
x4 is flat tuned entry level monitor. weak bass harsh treble & very revealing detail
focal xs is stylish package. good looks from every corner. it is a respectable brand for floor stander & car audio, so look into ur pocket.

Thanks.. Shouldn't have problem getting Focal XS 2.1 because more or less with X4 right? So, which one better for enjoying music? Bass wise, sound like Focal XS 2.1 win due to the sub. Another aspect is about RM 600 price gap if compare to MKIII. In other word, I should avoid X4?
*

yup, i find myself cannot tahan the lack of subwoofer tongue.gif
from the specs, focal use 3" satelite with tweeter, plus a 6.5" sub. quite a good listening combination from my experience

MKIII, is it really lack of bass? Are you a bass head? Just wondering... I'm not really a bass head but I do appreciate the presence of bass in a music. Especially classic jazz, I think it's not enjoyable without bass. And I do listen to other modern genre. I'm a universal listener so I need a all rounder speaker. BTW, XS 2.1 good for PC usage? They have built in DAC right, better than after market RM 500 DAC?
*

not a bass head. i do appreciate the fuller dynamic range in the lower notes, that makes musics interesting smile.gif

QUOTE(power911 @ Aug 23 2013, 10:35 PM)
I would go for X4 rather than XS 2.1 because to me Focal XS 2.1 sounds horrible as if the subwoofer is totally a separate family from the satellites...

it feels like they do not match at all.
not to mention trebles sounds cheap

just wanted to say it
*

perhaps the wrong side of subwoofer phase clash with front satelite. This happens to many 2.1 set and home theater, which fortunately came with 0-180 phase switch.
to resolve this, either move the sub behind u or swap the polarity of speaker wire.

move it behind so that the phase will shift

And when you mean x10, how much roughly the figure? I guess for now delay plan on speakering due to some reason. Some of the reason is hard to audit, and I stay at rural, kinda hard for me to bring to my current location.  sweat.gif
*

easily cost sp2500 x10 and u will never turn back rclxms.gif
say bye bye to pc speakers & join real speaker family

but prefer something right to the heart. wub.gif

that's the sub crossover. unfortunately no such setting in sp2500.
unless ur budget is limited, i would say change is better than modify blindly.

Wow... that price. I wonder if those hifi are suitable for near field such as pc usage. And why floor stand not suitable for near field? Too high from head?
*

height is usually fine.
i guess driver size too big and sound level for to perform is very loud to be sitted "nearfield"

Hivi D1080-IV and Wharfedale diamond 8.1
Which one is better ? Can anyone recommend me some other active speakers ( RM 500-700 or slightly higher ) for better sound quality .
Thanks

wharfedale pro front port, hivi use back port. that's the different.

probably because it isn't very 'audiophile like'? I dunno

I personally find it okay for a standard computer speaker
but for the price I'd usually recommend Edifier S550 for true massive power (unfortunately no digital input... gotta wait for edifier's new product)

I wonder... if you're gonna use z906 you might need a 5.1 supported soundcard for a laptop so..... think about it wink.gif
Not DAC though... I doubt any hi fi dac has 5.1 output
*
eh, usb sound card has multi channel DAC rite?
perhaps xfi usb will do the job

Hi guys... Does Swan X4 have flat sound? But according to the design, should have more bass than MK3. Still deciding buy speaker or jump ship to head-fi... Sigh...
*

cannot be.
x4 is smaller in overall size and the main driver only 4"
i own several 4" speaker from AE (passive satelite) and Wharfedale (powered monitor), use EQ test lowest tone they produce is "pop... pop...pop"
i'd say they are too far away from real deep bass

this thing is suppose to be a near field monitor (look at the price) but i cannot understand why CT say suite u more rclxub.gif

Buy new c3 to mod u lose warranty + no confident will sound nice.
and u paying more in the end, why not top up for better set?
c3 weakness already well known. ppl try to "fix" with better accessory like sound card and wires etc, but those just increase the input line level near peak. Do the same step any price speaker also improved la.
c3 itself is not changed

i did modding pc speaker before, parts cost not much but the efforts, risk and time are wasted in my opinion... Becos the "house sound" still stick there unless u change the speaker transducer. Meaning the best quality improvement u can do is change better set

I'm still new to the audio systems. I dont' know what are the differences between 2.0, 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1. I'm finding a good quality speaker which I purposely use it to listen English romantic love song (70's, 80's and 90's) , jazz song, mandarin classic song and singer (eg: Olivia Ong, Wanting).
1. Room size: medium room
2. Budget around RM200-500
3. Need to have extra features like USB port and DVD-drive
Hope everyone can provide me some suggestions and reasons. Thank you.
*

easy. normal music content are 2 channel full range stereo (left and right)
when people mentioning 2.1 means there is additional sub-channel for low note (a.k.a. bass)
u will get separate control too.

since you using medium size room and listen to light tunes, i got some tips for u:

2.0 or 2.1 are fine smile.gif
surround or virtual surround not needed
pick at least 4" or bigger main speaker, it will be covering wide frequency range
aim for wood or heavvy material with strong construction shape
dont be affraid to try out used item (of cource test at own risk)
