neither 2.0 nor 2.1 produce better bass... it's depend on the model and the driver used... i assume better bass mean well controlled and deep low bass here  tongue.gif

but if u mean the amount of bass and the power and body of the bass, well 2.1 wif a subwoofer definitely has the upper hand... but if jz for music, the amount of bass produce by 2.0 is sufficient... but yeah, whn it come to movies especially DTS audio, u will really like a subwoofer ^^

My mobo have DTS thingy. Will it work with the speaker when I use DAC or I need DTS DVD etc? I mostly watch those downloaded video. BTW, Ibasso just confirm me that D42 can be use as a standalone DAC for PC. Hopefully they didn't misread my inquiry and I really can't wait to test out D42 Mamba. A portable DAC/ amp which I can use for my headphone and mobile.

I am not sure with the R2800 power because I only tested them at shops.

but I am pretty sure my Sony SS-D201 bookshelves with NAD302 amp is able to shake the ceiling with their 6.5" midwoofers (if shaking ceilings is what you are aiming for  tongue.gif )

well... this system is definitely more than RM1k mark so of course it could do more than ordinary computer speakers so... I couldn't comment yet haha

I can say the R2800 with their huge 8" woofers are definitely gonna be powerful and huge sounding and shouldn't be a problem to shake ceilings lol
*
LoL... I'm not looking for ceiling shaking. Floor shaking would be enough. tongue.gif I just want a simple 2.0 setup where the bass will be on par with most of RM 400-500 2.1 multimedia speaker. So, how does R2800 sound like? Can beat C3? I hope you can write a review someday regarding R2800.

if comparing the 3 models u stated, sound stick hav my vote
*
Me second this. Last time I compare Soundstick and SP2500. I say Soundstick III win but the downside not perform well in gaming since it's more to music speaker. And I dislike the control at the subwoofer itself, and my desk already full because I put my rig on my desk. So put at below desk will be useless for me.

QUOTE(ktek @ Jul 8 2013, 03:50 PM)
movie or music source file must have encoded DTS in stereo or surround.
the DAC u buy mostly just do stereo

Can beat C3?
c3 is something much weaker than its outlook sweat.gif
*
Honestly C3 is the best bang for buck but it's not fair to compare to SP 2500. As I recall when doing comparison by my memory, comparison by PC, mobile, and mp3 player, C3 win. But when you drive SP 2500 even with this RM 150 UD100 USB DAC, the performance is like night and day. I mean for SP 2500 it self. With onboard soundcard, SP 2500 sound like a crap. Don't ask me why. And of course better than C3 when not on onboard soundcard. Just try to listen with your ear and you will get what I mean.

After reading and reading and thinking, I think I stick with my UD100. Seems like it's a very good product for it's price. Comparable to some RM 500 DAC out there. But now no idea for the speaker. doh.gif Want to get 2.1 but small desk. Want to get 2.0, afraid speaker not enough bass. Want to test listen, no speaker for testing at Miri. sweat.gif

something within the same price range, i did say audioengine a5+. i wont said it's better since both of them sound different and hav their own pros n cons. u hav to try them out urself and decide it. but jz remember not to get the older audioengine a5.

but if jz look alone mk3 sure look better.

I see.. Thanks. Too bad show room only at KL. sad.gif

I personally think Focal XS book is rubbish compared to the B&W MM-1

How about Focal XS vs M200MKIII?

QUOTE(power911 @ Jul 16 2013, 08:11 PM)
cannot compare... focal xs is 2.1 while m200mkiii is 2.0

focal has more bass while the m200mkiii got the mids right (reason why is that focal tweeters sounds like cheap car tweeters)

unless you are talking bout focal xs book versus m200mkiii

then I still gotta say the m200mkiii wins due to the midranges (and bass... cuz focal xs book has no bass) (in fact Creative T20 has more bass than Focal XS Book)
I have no idea how to use the internal dac in B&W MM-1 (in fact I don't even know it existed)

I know the Focal XS 2.1 had an ipod dock
Focal XS book doesn't

I gotta say my source was decent (T-Muso USB DAC)
and I tested 3 of them, the Focal XS book is definitely a joke to me
*
Forget to tell Focal XS Book... Hehe... Thanks for the info.

Anyone ever compare Focal XS 2.1 vs Swans X4. But seems like X4 more to desktop use while Focal are more to h-fi like audio. Focal XS 2.1 suitable for desktop use or not?

QUOTE(ktek @ Aug 23 2013, 08:38 PM)
R401 has power amplifier to pump ur sansui and crossover the bass to subwoofer which is pump by another amp unit.
those shop subwoofer has the crossover & amplifier for bass but nothing to pump ur speaker.
best choice for low cost is look for 2nd hand integrated amp or AV receiver in mudah.
make sure they are in working condition
all are different class sleep.gif

M200 is multimedia speaker. deep bass good treble, best for general pc game & movie
x4 is flat tuned entry level monitor. weak bass harsh treble & very revealing detail
focal xs is stylish package. good looks from every corner. it is a respectable brand for floor stander & car audio, so look into ur pocket.
*
Thanks.. Shouldn't have problem getting Focal XS 2.1 because more or less with X4 right? So, which one better for enjoying music? Bass wise, sound like Focal XS 2.1 win due to the sub. Another aspect is about RM 600 price gap if compare to MKIII. In other word, I should avoid X4?

yup, i find myself cannot tahan the lack of subwoofer tongue.gif
from the specs, focal use 3" satelite with tweeter, plus a 6.5" sub. quite a good listening combination from my experience
*
MKIII, is it really lack of bass? Are you a bass head? Just wondering... I'm not really a bass head but I do appreciate the presence of bass in a music. Especially classic jazz, I think it's not enjoyable without bass. And I do listen to other modern genre. I'm a universal listener so I need a all rounder speaker. BTW, XS 2.1 good for PC usage? They have built in DAC right, better than after market RM 500 DAC?

Bro,

You should give Edifier R2800 a try smile.gif

Interested but no place to try... I'm at Sarawak. Last time haven't have chance to audit at KL when I holiday at Melaka. sad.gif

QUOTE(power911 @ Aug 23 2013, 10:35 PM)
I would go for X4 rather than XS 2.1 because to me Focal XS 2.1 sounds horrible as if the subwoofer is totally a separate family from the satellites...

it feels like they do not match at all.
not to mention trebles sounds cheap

X4 is good and smooth
if I find the need of bass I would rather pump some bass boost on the X4 rather than having a subwoofer that doesn't match it's own self
just wanted to say it
*
Thanks... I do really appreciate the feedback. Since you own C3, do you think X4 can beat C3 bass? I mean not the boom-boom but the quality of the bass, the impact and the tightness. How about MKIII compared to X4? Or can you compare including R2800 too? Yeah, R2800 is different league but I love to listen to your opinion.

What do you mean move the sub behind you?

lol I actually own the S530D not the C3  tongue.gif

C3 bass is definitely more powerful than X4 unless you bassboost the X4 but it defeats the purpose of studio monitor lol

I have yet to test the R2800 so I couldn't comment

MKIII and X4... I cannot remember much but I'm sure the MKIII has better warmth in it than most HiVi speaker if my memory is still correct
*
I thought you own C3 because you really know about the speaker. Haha... The purpose of the speaker is for music listening, not to monitor my audio. Hehe... I guess I delay speaker shopping until I tested them all. But for a 2.1 speaker like XS, is it suitable to place the sub on a desk?

I think he meant put the woofer 'behind' where you sit...
experiment by putting your woofer on different positions of your room n such
experiment with the directions of the woofer like where it face also helps

I see... Now I get it. Hehe... I think SP 2500 can't satisfy me anymore. sweat.gif My ear very picky nowadays since I explore audiophile. SP 2500 sound good for it's price and level, even sound better than M50W to my ear. But now, I wanted more. I shouldn't explore audiophile in the beginning. doh.gif

And when you mean x10, how much roughly the figure? I guess for now delay plan on speakering due to some reason. Some of the reason is hard to audit, and I stay at rural, kinda hard for me to bring to my current location. sweat.gif

Do have. Two years warranty. sweat.gif I think something can be done to improve the bass. The bass good, but not that thumping enough for me. Definitely will shake the floor but prefer something right to the heart. wub.gif

easily cost sp2500 x10 and u will never turn back rclxms.gif
say bye bye to pc speakers & join real speaker family
that's the sub crossover. unfortunately no such setting in sp2500.
unless ur budget is limited, i would say change is better than modify blindly.
start saving in ur piggy bank brows.gif

Ditch away my SP2500? Planned too... biggrin.gif I wish there's hifi heaven at Miri. sad.gif

Maybe you can try my current setup:

1. Audirvana+ (music playback software for mac) = RM150 or Jplay for PC at RM500
2. Dacport LX = RM1.2k or Emerald physic DAC 1 = RM750 or wait for stoner acoustic new DAC ud110 running at 32bit below RM200
3. Topping TP60 (integrated amp) = RM600
4. Xls Encore (2.0 passive speaker) = RM1344
5. Decent speaker stand = RM300 and below(used unit)
6. Cables, plugs and interconnect = not fix, maybe below RM100
7. APC Line R power regulator (to protect your valuable amp and speakers) = RM160
Welcome to the dark side whistling.gif

Nice... Will take a look at this. How about the boom boom without sub? Goody? And you use this for close listening or few feet away from you?

hmmm... actually my current set is total about 11-12k beginning from soundcard till the end. I have a 2nd amp which i pair with a tannoy i got free from my cuzin at my Plasma and i have a floorstand dynaudio which i seldom use due to me always sit nearfield and floorstand is not suitable. Add those... 16k ish? 10x sad.gif poor man here... but this is still consider entry level...  blush.gif

Wow... that price. I wonder if those hifi are suitable for near field such as pc usage. And why floor stand not suitable for near field? Too high from head?
