what would you guys think to get is better the ediffier r2000 or the swan d1080-IV? in terms of looks the d1080 kills it but is around a 100 more expensive than the r2000

Most probably the main filter capacitors has gone bad. My Edifier M3300 also started buzzing recently and found the two main filter capacitors already bulged. Thus decided to recap them myself (in fact change the rest of the capacitors at the same time). Now the no more buzzing, plus the noise floor also dropped significantly... More pictures later. Perhaps perform other mods also...

wow you sure are good in those wiring and soldering ... i found a solution to my logitech z523 which is just simply change the location of the bass and correcting the wires then the buzzing is gone now.



guys i want to ask when i lower the volume knob untill like 5% only my main satellites got sound ( the one with volume and bass knob ) but no sound on the other satellites , when i go to speakers properties , both left and right speaker are balance , is this normal?

try to look for 2nd hand Edifier C3, great speaker for music and games within that price range.

Topup a bit and get the Edifier E3100, worth it.

My speakers were buzzing audibly even without any inputs (ie. all audio sources disconnected) and doesn't matter how it was placed either. All the main electrolytics were replaced, still haven't replaced the ceramics yet.

Nopes, not normal. Check the speaker connections. Could be dirty volume control pot. Does the sound crackle when turning the volume?

Maybe will check out on the E3300. I usually use my headset for games, just sometimes lazy to put it on, so just use speakers as I don't really turn it up too loud anyway

Resistors comes later, but the ceramics may be replaced first (with metalised film capacitors) since majority of them are in the signal path. Already can hear some improvements to the sound with the current modifications. Majority are Nichicons and few Panasonic. All those crap electrolytic capacitors (Unite, Yun Li, Acon) were totally removed. I gather those are Panasonic capacitors. Which model/series?

LOL... went to Danga City Mall to look for Edifier S530D..

Found Pine System... but they didn't have any Edifier speakers for sale. Only a printers and inks. Got some other shops selling Altec Lansing, Eacan and Sonic Gear speakers.

But later, found Creative Gigaworks T3 from the next shop. Listened to it a bit then decided to take it without second thought.

Demmmm... now I'm broke.

The ceramics I had replaced a few in signal path, left most remain there coz I found it hard to find the values. The electrolytic cap I only used Nichicon in woofer power amp part and the rest are Panasonic AK and AM series which has very good specs for audio use.

I do like the mod, it is like bringing the speaker sound to another level.

planning to buy a set of 2.1 speaker; read some review and found that sound card is a quite essential part of the pc. I got around RM900 in my budget; so the following choice came across my mind:
1. edifier s530d
2. edifier C3 + asus xonar essence stx
which choice is better? since I don't have a sound card now and what is the price of C3 and S530d at low yat?

What brand were those replacements? Is it Wima, Dayton, Epcos, Sprague, etc?

The colors and markings reminds me of the old polarised Panasonic SU series (discontinued). As for Panasonic AM and AK series, can find very little information (seems to be discontinued also). The only model that is similar in Panasonic's current catalogue is the M series type A, though all are 85C non-low ESR capacitors. For power supply rails, I've used 105C capacitors as the amplifier section can get quite toasty...

Same here. Anyway rather than following the original values, some changes for areas such as the subwoofer low pass filter section. Now the lows can go much lower now (below 40Hz).

If you're looking for a good speaker and not necessarily a portable one, then look for Edifier E3100.
