I'm not very familiar with earphones since they don't really have much resale value so I dun really play with them much. But yeah, there are MANY earphones (IEMs, Canalphones, and etc) that are better than the sony. It all depends on how much you are willing to pay

how good is good enough?
for some ppl, a Kancil is good enough others spend 20 times that price on a BMW which does the same thing if u feel your earphones are doing fine for you, then just keep to it and u get to save some cash others feel they want better, so they get better ones "good enough" is a matter of oppinion This post has been edited by KilJim: Feb 12 2006, 07:01 PM |

where got crazy....the phone cost a few times the ipod only mar
The most I have spent on my portable ipod setup....not including the ipod mini was Ray Samuels SR71 + Etymotic ER4...about RM2k. If I had no budget....heck I'd go for those custom IEMs right away! still play with earphones meh... the ipod sounds really good and deserves something like that (no pun intended), but only if you are going with the "proper procedure" QUOTE(kinfei @ Feb 14 2006, 03:48 AM) what? you thought those are hearing aid for old popo? |

actually...it is not that small....
You dun run a headphone directly from the line out....the output power of the line out would probably destroy a earphone with short exposure. You need to run the ipod to an amp(headamp/speakeramp). edit: let me take this opportunity to introduce this to you guys: http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...dpost&p=6000132 This post has been edited by AlamakLor: Feb 14 2006, 03:23 PM |

ah, finally someone else who doesnt think the Sony's isolation is good
if it's isolation you're looking for, the next step for IEMs (and locally available) are the Etymotic ER-6i, Shure E2c, Panasonic HJE-70 the etys are really good at isolating, but they're really overpriced locally and over your budget (so are the shures) not sure about the Panasonic's isolation though |

I was quite broke when i decided to upgrade my iPod earphones, and i really wanted an in-ear earphones like the ones Sony and Apple had, so i went and bought the Philips version. Now i know that Philips earphones/headphones really suck, but this one was quite decent, considering it only cost me RM89.90 at Low Yat's IT Hypermarket. They have a whole range of in-ear earphones, but i got the budget ones. Surprisingly they offer quite decent sound quality (better than the regular iPod ones), and they come with three different earbud sizes, 1.2m split cables (two cables that can be joined), and earphone case. For earphones under RM100, worth a try.

QUOTE(KilJim @ Feb 16 2006, 11:54 PM) Cos i've tried so many budget philips earphones, and they are really quite lousy. SONY, JVC, and even AIWA ones (for the same price) have produced better quality and lasted longer. That was when i actually gave up on Philips. But i saw these SHE9500 ![]() and decided to give it another chance. (I only can afford earphones around RM100). Turns out they're pretty decent. Not bad. |

the problem is whether they are worth it or not. I didn't like the er6 one single bit, how much can the er6i deviate? as for the ety er4, tha's a different story. it's by far the best iem at <usd200 that i've tried. anytime eat up the e4 alive. if you wanan be safe, just fork out a little more for the er4.

QUOTE for ety 6i user, I want to know how about the sound perfromance in ipod? it has to depend on the type of music you are listening to. and of course, whether you like your music to be heavily bassed or stuffs... for me, i use it when i am travelling on the bus. besides that, i keep it and use other earphones/headphones... the bass is abit weak if would to compare with my sony 888 and grado sr-60. |

QUOTE(cafuheva @ Mar 5 2006, 11:42 PM) I'd say the performance is very good. Please do not compare an IEM to headphones, ety 6i is all about clarity. Bass is good enough, there are times where you feel there is no bass, it is because the bass was not meant to be strong in that song. If you play the same song with other audio player and other earphones or headphones, i feel as if the bass is being manipulated out by being amplified many times so the bass comes out strong. I did not regret getting the Ety 6i, because you can really listen to clarity of each instrument played, that is of course according to specific conditions which includes, the bitrate of the song, EQ on/off & etc. |

i agree with NekoRacing, clarity is superb while the bass is just nice for my brain. not too heavy not too light. as for EQ i just use Rock all the time cos the only songs i'll listen on my ipod is from Oasis, other songs later on only listen

Hmmm, earphones ah? The white iPod ones (for my current unit, the silver 6GB mini) are still in pristine condition, kept in their packaging and still unopened...
I'm presently using a pair of Sony headphones, to be exact those with own volume control function... If i'm not mistaken, the model no. is the MDR-E829V... I actually prefer to use the iPod headphones but since the Sony one is still working fine, might as well use that one first... |

yup, used to own one...already sold it....used the cash for the mx500....hopefully it is worth it.
The pmx60 is bright and light sounding, very bass shy and mid range is pretty congested. the px100 sounds alot warmer and vocals sound clearer...but why bother with them? the ksc75 pwns them both and costing only 50% of their price |

The EX81 is close to RM200, think its around RM170-180
You could try an Edifier H260 If it really is as stated in the thread above, it'll probably be better than the EX81 but priced below RM100 |

I'm using the white headphones as my primary iPod earphone as my Sony one has gone bonkers... Not too bad lah, the hearing quality is very nice, in fact much better than the Sony pair (with built-in volume ctrl)...
