New Z500 coming soon according to Hikari85, most probably with gt740m. 

If you are gamer, wait and grab the upcoming Y500/Y400 +GT750m(GDDR5) which have better performance above GTX660m (ie Y580), much better cooling system, poisoness red backlit, optional swappable ultrabay, removable battery, slot for mSATA SSD and easier self upgrade of HDD, SSD, ram and dust cleaning compare to new Z400. 

Else wait to grab new Z500/GT740m around the same performance of GT650m( ie N56vz) with bigger screen and better cooling compare to Z400. 

Yupe all old models with regular retail pricing... looks like its not worth going all the way there if no new 750m models

No swappable disc drive for Z400  . You can check with skycrawler in garage sales, whether any suitable slim caddy bay (not swappable)  for Z400. You need to remove your ODD and use it as external drive.

You need to check with Z400 user or reseller whether HDD bay or ODD bay is sata3 port before you get the SSD. Generally, HDD bay is sata3 port and ODD bay is sata2 port. But pls check it out.

Z400 don't have extra msata slot for msata SSD. 
Y400 has msata slot. 

HDD bay is hardisk slot and ODD bay is optical disk drive slot. 
Generally, HDD slot come with sata3 port which will speed up the SSD. ODD slot come with sata2 port which will slow down the SSD like HDD speed. 
You need to make sure Z400 come with sata3 port to enjoy the speed of SSD.   

If sata3 port is at HDD slot for Z400, you can swap your HDD with SSD. Get a suitable slim caddy bay to place your HDD and swap it with ODD. Use the ODD as external drive. This is similar to how Y580/Y480 users installed their SSD. 

If you want to retain your ODD in laptop, then use the HDD as external drive.

Personally, I'd wait for Acer's offering, waiting for something like a  i7, GT750M, Full HD Matte IPS display combination. Currently, Acer only has this, GT750M> GT740M (Lenovo Z400) > GT730M. Perhaps Acer might refresh their V3-571G-736b8G1T with a GT750M...who knows

I don't know about the Y400 but the older brother, Y480 suffers from BAD viewing angles.

US spec              GT 750M SLI  /  1 TB HDD + 16 GB SSD  /  16GB RAM
isn't it obvious? besides that I went to PIKOM PC fair 14 April 2013, Lenovo Malaysia selling Y500 at RRP, while the US having a discount USD 289

Best is to get someone walk in and see with their own eye. 

Its better to check with the resellers in garage sales. They have faster updates on any new model. 

Some resellers already accept pre order for Y400/GT750m/W8 around RM26xx. Check it out at garage sales. 

Y400/GT750m  will come with W8 and freeDOS choices.
