I just realized... D800's grip, MB-D12 is made in China! ._.! and so much pricier than the MD-D10 --> D700 grip Made in Thailand.

Made in China, not good ? unsure.gif

Japan > Thailand > China for Nikon isn't it? hmm.gif Or maybe it is not applicable now, Nikon shift production to China...? But cannot tahan is China labor cost lower, but the grip cost almost double the price!

Just I don't get why does a MB-D10 Thailand made is RM680+ where else the MB-D12 China made is RM1100+! Its not like the MB-D12 came with extra buttons or something like that, as far as I recall both are using magnesium alloy.

but china got nano coat tongue.gif
actually china production costs has been increasing for last couple yrs already.
other industries like music have already been looking at other cheaper countries, some have opened up factories in indonesia, some have chosen vietnam etc.
*
But all my nano coats are from Japan shakehead.gif but oh well, as long its Nikon quality it should be good... and I hope its as robust as my MB-D10! Spend almost 2x the price for it.

I'm currently using my Spyder3Express with a third party software called ColorEyes Display Pro, which means I have more flexibility like the Pro/Elite laugh.gif Multiple monitor, white calibration etc unlike the original software just press calibrate and that's it.

Quick question, Lexar or Sandisk for CF? And anyone with experiences with both of them?

I'm looking at Lexar 400x vs the Sandisk Extreme, both rated at 60MB/s.

both have good reps in the market. from what iv seen on BTS vids of the pros they stick to either lexar or sandisk. if im not mistaken mcnally uses lexar and so does joe buissink. chase jarvis is sandisk guy
*
At the moment I'm a Sandisk owner and I have confidence in these cards.

Lexar 400x 32GB x2 -> USD148.51
Sandisk Extreme 32GB x2 --> USD197

I can save almost USD50 if I were to go for the Lexar instead of the Sandisk now. That's roughly RM150!

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Oct 12 2012, 12:05 AM)
using both er.. so far dont see much differences. no failed / corrupted images yet (touch wood)

Get Lexar lor liike that smile.gif
for RM150 cheaper if performance not as good as Sandisk also no complain laugh.gif
*
The Lexar 400x is 25% cheaper than the Sandisk Extreme at the moment, only till end of this month sweat.gif due to some promotion.

Based on this review here, it seems the Lexar is a little slower than the Sandisk when used on a D800, but when transfer to PC more or less similar. (41.9MB/s vs 39.6MB/s, could be error margin anyways)

put my camera and lenses inside my bag for less than a week and due to the rain and cold temperature this few days, water droplet start forming around my camera, can see like my camera just got clean by a wet cloth shocking.gif

hope the lens wont grow fungus soon
*
Yes, if you mention that water condensation occur around the body etc... it also possible it is happening inside and that's perfect condition for fungus to grow! But then again, so far I never been into such situation unless I bring my camera from cold place to hot place and it starts to condensate.

Anyways you're better off putting your camera outside instead of inside your bag to avoid fungus growth.

btw celciuz, where did u buy ur lens focusing chart? was it the spyder lenscal or lensalign?
any comment on both?
*
How did you know I have a lens focusing chart? o_O I got the Spyder Lenscal from Yannick, not sure how much I got it for already err.. but I would say its not worth paying the money for it. Better to use a focustestchart.net printable copy instead.

QUOTE(gerald7 @ Oct 12 2012, 08:06 AM)
the lexar 400x 16GB and Sandisk Extreme 60x 16GB.. where u get your pricing so cheap one.. lol we got ours like... beginning of the year... so expensive  shocking.gif
*
I'm getting it from http://www.bhphotovideo.com/. How much did you paid for yours? Btw the prices I quoted earlier is in US dollars and they are for 32GB per card. 32GB x2 for USD148.51

Yeah, I have a Spyder Lenscal. I'll read it when I'm back... I glanced through, its actually converting the 36MP NEF to smaller DNG files.

we paid too much for it... you deal is more of a steal!  mad.gif oh well. But so far its been pretty reliable. Using quite happily on both Nikon n Canon bodies.  thumbup.gif

do they ship to msia? wats the shipping costs?
*
You bought from Malaysia? If Malaysia then it is known to be pricey here, I paid RM330 for my first Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s 16GB end of 2010. My second Sandisk Extreme 16G cost me about half from B&H. They do ship to Malaysia, you have a few options for it... some last time I bulk before with friends I think is USD50 :S.

u already have existing cards now right?
since u say running out of hdd space...usd150 can buy 2tb hdd tongue.gif
*
Yeah, existing card I'm using now is Sandisk Extreme 60MB/s 16GB x2 + Sandisk 30MB/s SD 16GB and 8GB, and a few more Sandisk Extreme 20MB/s 4GB around but those 4GB gets chewed up so easily by D800.. end up getting annoyed to keep changing SD cards now and then.

So going to get 32GB x2 CF and 32GB x1 SD.

Too expensive to drive up alone sad.gif Petrol up and down + toll roughly RM300 I guess (or a little more). Not yet include accomodation etc. RM300 I can sit plan to Bangkok for BIMS2013! biggrin.gif

actually how many shots can a 32gb card hold for D800? say using large fine jpg?
about 900?
*
Don't have the numbers for JPEG yet, but for 14-bit lossless compressed NEF, 16GB --> 200 estimated by D800 but in actual slightly more than 300 images.

Since I know 14-bit lossless NEF is about 40~50MB, and 36MP JPEG with max quality settings from LR or PS is about 13~20MB depending on what sort of pics. So 1200 JPEG maybe for 32GB?
