Hi~ My parents just brought back a 2months plus old JRT back from kampung, And it's really KAMPUNG.
So, now back in Sunway, he just cant get used to here, and the worse part is we never had a dog. So pls HELP!!! 1. Should we keep him inside or outside the house? (He's already used to the inside, because the 1st night he already sleeping under the sofa, and when we tied him outside the house, he'll keep making noise) 2. What should i feed him and how much, what time? 3. How long should i bath him once? 4. When we go to sleep, what i have to do for the doggy? 5. Now he's so not used to the new environment, and he seems so sad, even shitting in watery form, is it normal?? What can we do to help him get used to here? (He used to walk around in the kampung and he had dog friends there, now he's afraid of other dogs barks) 6. Will he run away and never come back if we let him go out alone?? can we walk him at park with no strings attached?? 7. When should we start traning him? first time trainer or send him to professional trainers? how much it'll cost?? 8. How often we have to send him to grooming?? 9. Should i bring him to vet? for check up purpose? And he sleeps alot, is it normal cos he's a puppy? I know it's very long list of questions, but pls Me and my family really wants to keep this doggy and care bout him. ![]() ![]() |

To Add on my Replies and shares with you on some knowledge
Hi~ My parents just brought back a 2months plus old JRT back from kampung, And it's really KAMPUNG. So, now back in Sunway, he just cant get used to here, and the worse part is we never had a dog. So pls HELP!!! 1. Should we keep him inside or outside the house? (He's already used to the inside, because the 1st night he already sleeping under the sofa, and when we tied him outside the house, he'll keep making noise) (Best if you can have him sleeping with you or if not then place a blanket for him so that he be comfy) Add on --> keeping him inside or outside is optional to you and your family. But for me, I am keeping my dogs inside to avoid dognapping. If he is already sleeping under the sofa, then let it be.. If possible, buy or make the puppy a bedding or if you can, train him to sleep in crate. Good when it comes to travelling. It is highly recommended that the puppy sleep in his own bedding and not on your bed because of fur. JRT shed fur too. You wouldnt want to wake up with fur all over your face.. 2. What should i feed him and how much, what time? (Twice a day while he's young. Am and Pm) Add on --> To add on, you may feed him with the portion of 1 or 2 spoons (1 genggam tangan). It should be 1 layer of kibbles in the bowl. Add some water to soften the kibbles. 3. How long should i bath him once? (once a week) Add on --> Once a week is good enough. Do not bath the dog with hot water. 4. When we go to sleep, what i have to do for the doggy? (make sure he's comfy and lots of water to drink) Add on --> Some people will confine the young puppy in a cage to avoid pee poo in the house. Another way is to confine an area with barricade with a lots of newspapers and bedding so you only concentrate on picking up that area. If your puppy already fully trained on where to do his peepoo business, then confining to cage or barricading to one area is not necessary. For me, I leave my entire living area to my JRT before going to work. He doesnt have the habit of chewing or destroying things and he knows where his toilet is. Training needs patience and time and it depends on individuals JRT as each and every ones' behaviour varies. 5. Now he's so not used to the new environment, and he seems so sad, even shitting in watery form, is it normal?? What can we do to help him get used to here? (He used to walk around in the kampung and he had dog friends there, now he's afraid of other dogs barks) (Get some toys for him to play or after his vaccination bring him to the park) Add on --> shitting in watery form? This doesnt sound good. Your puppy may have stress which brings to upset stomach or probably ate something bad. Please bring the puppy to the vet to check out and at the same time go for vaccination. . 6. Will he run away and never come back if we let him go out alone?? can we walk him at park with no strings attached?? (yes if he's not trained esp jack russell is very friendly dog) Add on --> JRT is curious almost everything. If they sees something interesting, they will go for it. And they are really fast too. You cant really catch them when they are in full speed. If you walk him in a park, please make sure that the puppy is on leash. You will never know when it dashes out when it sees a cat or squirrel 7. When should we start traning him? first time trainer or send him to professional trainers? how much it'll cost?? (Send him to trainer if u have budget .. ard rm3oo per course) Add on --> Encouraged that the puppy is totally vaccinated before you bring him to the training ground and socialise with other dogs. You may train your puppy as early as 3 months old and that will be on Obedience. 8. How often we have to send him to grooming?? (No need) Add on -->Since your JRT fur is short, grooming is not necessary. But ear cleaning, anal sac cleaning and nail cutting is necessary. Some owner will learn to do this on their own and some will just send to vet or groomer and some never do anything at all. It is on the dog personal hygience, same thing like us human do too on ear cleaning and nail cutting and of course, no anal sac cleaning 9. Should i bring him to vet? for check up purpose? And he sleeps alot, is it normal cos he's a puppy? (yes for first time checkup) Add on --> Yes for vaccination and to check on the diarhoea as well since he is pooing in watery form. Puppy is normally very active and energetic. My JRT doesnt slept much, as far as I know he was always there ready to play at all time. pheww..still remember when we took turns to play with him. JRT have their own personal time too, they will play with you when they need to and they will play on their own too.. So during the own personal time, they dont like you to kacau them. As JRT grew older, they eventually stabilise and less energetic. This post has been edited by pflakes: Apr 7 2009, 01:22 PM |

Some people mentioned that short haired JRT shed more than the long haired. For me, I dont see any different coz my long haired fella shed quite lots too. Cat poop..hmm..my JRT 'loves' them too and have the same bad habit likes yours. Some dogs eats it and some even roll their body on it and some take no interest. I have my fair share on couple of incident on this, so whenever I walk my JRT, I will look out for those poops. From time to time, I will sound him a firm warning. If he happens to eat it, I will wash his tongue with lots of shampoo. My JRT dont like it and eventually this helps to minimise. I think the cat poops smells nice to them like durian to us. The funny thing is one evening, I caught my JRT sniffing real hard near the gate.. my neighbour staying two doors away was having a good time eating their durians.. |

Here is the sample picture of it. You think its possible ? ![]() |

Hi partickyeo21,
Can't really see the pix clearly but from one glance, it looks like a chihuahua to me. Unless if you can provide a few angle for our viewing... Normally a JRT comes with droopy V shaped ears that are carried forward, almond shaped eyes and the colour is white with reddish brown, black, or tan markings. The weight is 4kg to 8kg and standing is about 25cm to 38cm. Here's the signatured pix of my furkid when he was 8 weeks old. He was about 2.3kg with the length of 1 and half palms size. Still remembered that he smelt of milk when we took him home.. This post has been edited by pflakes: May 18 2009, 04:00 PM Attached thumbnail(s) |

Hi Lendi
If you intend to buy a pup, please be extra careful with pet shops and if possible, check out if there is any reputable home breeders at your place in Penang. Check out the place and the condition of the genuine breeder before considering buying a pup from them. If you are in KL, I can recommend a home breeder in Cheras where I got my furkid from. Once a while, I am still contacting the auntie to update her on my furkid's status and checking out some tips from her. |
