QUOTE(+Newbie+ @ Aug 21 2012, 06:05 AM) I've been thinking about this for some time and unless someone can come up with a better explanation, I can only come to the conclusion that this was a mistake made by one of the players, normally the full back. There can simply be no excuse to not guard your posts during a corner against a team of Everton's calibre. it saying like our attack is useless without good defense. That's what I think as well. They tried playing through the middle but Everton defended very well and did a good job congesting the middle. There was simply not enough fluency (maybe because the team wasn't used to playing like this) to break Everton's rock solid defence. Actually United did have width in the form of Evra and Valencia. The problem was like what you said, the crossing was too poor and often couldn't beat the first man. And you highlighted another good point. No one attacked the posts. I think this was because the team was simply too disorganized and unfamiliar with the new playing style which is a mix of pass through middle and crossing from sides. That's easier said than done. I agree. RVP was simply too new to the team. I cannot understand why people are questioning this decision. He only joined days ago. How the hell is he supposed to suddenly bed into the team who are themselves playing an unfamiliar style of football against a rock solid team like Everton? SAF went with the safe choice and I agree with that decision. It would've been a draw if not for that silly goal that the team conceded from not guarding their near post in a corner. defense has problem so attack should make up for it. rvp is not some unknown new player i think he can manage. QUOTE(siksa @ Aug 21 2012, 06:22 AM) it saying like our attack is useless without good defense. And again, easier said than done. So just simply score more goals right? Who cares if you concede 10 goals? Just score 11? If we concede 11th goal at the 94th minute then just score a 12th goal in 94th minute + 10 seconds?defense has problem so attack should make up for it. rvp is not some unknown new player i think he can manage. Added on August 21, 2012, 6:28 am why not?he is a starter,he looks useless when he is sub in. Yes the attack should score goals, but it's pointless when the defence is leaking goals. And just how is RVP gonna manage when he had no pre season and no practice with the rest of the team whatsoever because he just joined days ago? The fact that RVP looked anonymous vindicates the fact that he was a sub. He simply doesn't have enough training with the rest of the team yet. Some of my thoughts from the game:-
1. Man Utd are going to have a tough time defensively as long as Carrick's playing a CB. As good as he is in midfield, he's not a CB and it shows. 2. Kagawa is pretty impressive. He showed good movement and awareness of players around him. His layoff to Cleverley which was cleared off the line by Jagielka was nice. 3. Nani, Welbeck and Evra had a pretty bad game. Nani with wayward crosses, Welbeck was hardly in the game and Evra just didn't stamp his authority going forward or even defensively 4. Too many crosses from the wings when none of our strikers are particularly good at headers. No more CR7 =( RVP plays better through the middle or drifting in. 5. Scholes seems to be playing the "Carrick" role, sitting deep in midfield while Cleverley links up midfield and the strikers. Didn't really notice him spraying the passes around much. Maybe his role requires him to play shorter passes like Carrick. 6. RVP needs more practice time to gel with the team. SAF mentioned this in the interview, they didn't get the best out of him but that's expected since it's his first game. 7. De Gea looks like he has his confidence at an all time high now. 180 turn from how he started last season. Looks like he's gonna be keeping Lindegaard out. 8. Tony V at right back seems alright for now as he works hard but they are missing his crosses on the right if he stays there. I'd rather have him back at right wing. |

You know what, I have been thinking for a while now, and here is a suggestion before the transfer window closes....
Sell Berba and Nani, get Kaka on loan, and find a CB to sub for Ferdinand. 4 weeks of injury is an indication. |

It was expected, that's why I don't have single Man Utd player in my fantasy team for this week at least

Nani I thought Juve wanted him so I was hoping we'd get a good price for him but no luck there. As for CB, I think when everyone comes back from injury, we'll be stacked. Rio and Vidic starting with Evans, Jones and Smalling as back up. Jones and Smalling also back up for RB. Looks like Ferguson doesn't really have much faith in Scott Wootton although people were saying he had a good pre-season.Sell Berba and Nani, get Kaka on loan, and find a CB to sub for Ferdinand. 4 weeks of injury is an indication. |

i think last season MU also play very poor in beginning, but slowly catchup to the champs right? MU will bounce back, that's for sure |

Kagawa seems to be a tad too creative for the other players surrounding him to understand his play, hope the lads would gain better understanding of his play in order for us to fully utilize him.
He's more of a 1-touch passer, where we're used to hold the ball but heck his touches are really creative & unpredictable even by us seeing it on tv. The only player i can see gels up with him perfectly at the moment is Rooney and for the rest, either he needs to make more simple straightforward passing or the lads needs to keep up with him. Either way, he look promising as a creative playmaker, good buy. |

Yeah... I agree Kagawa seem to be too smart for his teammate to really follow his move. De Gea kept us in until the first goal. If not because of him, we are already doom in half time.
The one play that I feel playing worst is Nani (Evra come second). Too many poor crosses, too many poor passes. Overall, I think they should let Kagawa organize the attack. He seem more to be doing it better than Scholes and Cleverley. Cleverley also playing poorly in first half. |

I think we miss Valencia + Rafael combo on the right that provided the width and terrorized defenses countless times last season. The two have a very good mutual understanding between them and gel very well.

to simply put it - we missed Carrick in the middle of the park
if only he was playing there instead of covering for Ferdinand I see a repeat of Everton if we don't sort out our defence asap...Fulham this weekend is another strong, physical team and they'll surely learn from Everton tonight |

Don't just blame the both of them by saying they bring down the morale of the whole team. they are professional and it's a team game. When some players aren't playing well, others should pick up the slack. Having a bad game here and there is pretty common. Everyone has bad games. So don't go saying that it's because of Evra and Nani that they whole team morale drop and due to that we lost. It's the whole team.Added on August 21, 2012, 11:07 amI think it will hard for us to keep up with city this year... I just don't feel it when most our center backs are injured... and for those who expect RvP to be instantly useful, go play your FM please |
