The Alliance Visa Infinite is pretty good, it offers 5X Points for overseas and Unlimited Entries to airport lounge. And best of all, the annual income requirement of RM150K/year is amongst the lowest for a credit card offering Priority Pass Membership Card which grants the cardholder unlimited entries to airport lounge worldwide.

However, regulars here will remember that zenquix did mentioned that Alliance Visa overseas admin fee is higher than their MasterCard and I did confirm it some time back.

And I do have the Alliance Plat Visa which is pretty good because it earns me Points and Cash Back. For my case where I charge my monthly insurance premiums to it including some other expenses, I usually get more than 1.5% in return.

Am using cash back platinum for 3yrs now, it was my first cc, n stumbled upon gen-x blog. Thanks to gen-x who talked abt the cashback after a few replies from him, I realized I was not given the cash back for many months, called up alliance bank n open a case they finally credited abt rm300.

It's a great card to hav when monthly spending is above 5k.
*
Glad to know you got your cash back credited.

The Alliance Platinum is a great card to have if you spend just below RM5K. Above RM5K, one only earns reward points with the Alliance Plat and no further cash back.

QUOTE(PJusa @ Aug 21 2012, 08:16 PM)
VI gives double rewards points for local spending but no real cash back.

plus:

airline lounge acccess
timeless points
free for life when you spend 20k the first year which is super easy to achieve
free sub card

minus:

no cash-back sad.gif

i have not done the maths yet but it seems that for spending of around 5k the plat beats the VI unless you really want the lounge access. i only have use for it like 4,5 times a year and the wife maybe 6 times so we're still thinking of "upgrading".
*
For local spending of RM5K, sure Alliance Plat better over the VI. The Alliance Visa Infinite is good if you want a card that grants you unlimited access to airport lounge.

And Bro, how come you mentioned Annual Fee Free For Life if spend RM20K on the first year? 2nd year onward no need to spend anything? Also, Alliance stated RM30K spending to qualify for annual fee waiver.

The added word of "Lifetime" makes a huge difference.

Most banks state the same thing, i.e. Lifetime waiver but with conditions. And the joke is, the condition can change if the bank(s) so desire.

This Visa VI is good for frequent flyer.

While the Plat card is good for normal spending beside retails(OCBC Ti and Amex2 give better rebate on retail spending). I use this for my monthly insurance premium and some auto debit payment.
*
Bro, I also use my Plat for insurance and at outlets where AMEX is not welcome.

By the way, I see you still using the Dell Vostro Signature (can't remember what we call this thingy) I designed for Vostro Thread few years ago. Your Vostro still functioning?

QUOTE(PJusa @ Aug 23 2012, 10:08 AM)
sorry about the 20k it's apparently 30k spending requirement for the first 12 months to get a perpetual waiver of the fees. i got the details from alliance bank when they called me so i might have remembered wrongly.

the annual bonus is a spending discount of some sort and no cash-back. its a measly 500 RM for spending of 100k p.a.

what might be worth considering is having both the plat and the VI (once the annual fee is waived). for overseas spending 5x bonus points is absolutely worth it and you get lounge access for just 60 / 30 RM p.a. they might even offset the goverment tax with points so the access could be free.

one *could* even roll over spending above 5k to the VI since the airline miles conversion is pretty attactive (3000 RM spending gives you 1000 enrich miles). i am not good and remembering to swap cards when required though.

i shall check with my banker if they want to give both cards or will only entertain an upgrade.
*
From what I understand, first year annual fee is free. Second year and subsequent years depends on past 12 months amount spent. But if what you said about spending just one RM20K or RM30K to get perpetual annual fee waiver, that's a first and it's great.

If you have Alliance Privilege Banking Account, the card is FREE, that's what I was told.

Any news abt having both cards or they only give upgrade to visa infinite? I wanna keep the plat and also get the VI.....3000 to 1000 enrich is definitely a plus.....
*
No reason why you cannot have 2 or more cards from the same bank. At one time I have 5 credit cards from Maybank, now I have 3. As for my UOB, I had 4 credit cards from them, 1 Plat which I have been holding for a decade and 3 issued from Privilege Banking.

If you're looking for cash rebates around 5k, Alliance Bank platinum gives out RM68.75 and points (5k points = RM25) which gives you roughly RM93.75 in value.

SCB gives you 0.5%, which is RM25.

There's an old card from Hong Leong bank, called Essential, which gives you 1% on all spending except for petrol. This is RM50 cash back for RM5,000 spending.

Conclusion, Alliance Bank platinum tops this category.
*
For up to RM5K spending, Alliance Plat is good because the minimum cash back starts at 0.5% and goes up to 2% as compared to SCB Biz Plat of 0.5% cash back and both cards earns the card holder points too.

One can still apply for the HLB Essential card.

Just for clarification, the StanChart Business Gold & Platinum Business credit cards earns the card holder 0.5% cash back and if include points, it will be in the range of 0.8%-0.85%. Click here to read my review of the Standard Chartered Bank Business Credit Card. Please note current offer for SCB Biz Plat is 15% cash back for Petrol (T&C apply), Smart Tag and FREE Cash too.

Alliance Bank Premier Debit Card 2% flat cash back up to RM9K tops Alliance Plat Credit Card.

QUOTE(vinvon23 @ Oct 31 2012, 09:32 PM)
hemm so if my spending is below 5k , shld it be better if i use this card for insurance/place nt accepting amex compare to scb business card?
*
How much is below RM5K? If less than RM2K/month, the OCBC Titanium may be even better if you combine it with your petrol, dining, telco and utility bill.

Click here to read my article Earn Pocket Money With Credit Cards where I have indicated the returns one can earn with various spending pattern.

Click here to read my article Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles 50% Sale - Great for My Maybank Visa Infinite Treats Points where I have posted images of the Enrich Points required for all Malaysia Airline destinations with or without sale.

And as for Melbourne, it will still cost you RM1140 (approximately depending on exchange rate if you fly from Melbourne) for taxes.

Based on my previous Alliance Visa Plat, Alliance Visa overseas rate are kind of high. My wife has Alliance MC Plat and I noticed that her conversion rate lower than my Visa.

The good thing about Alliance VI is - it rewards 2X for local spending and only need to spend RM30K for auto annual fee waiver.

Edited**

I just called Alliance and the CS told me that Alliance Privilege Banking VI perpetual annual fee waiver, no minimum spending thumbup.gif Trying to upgrade to it..... CS will email me the form, hopefully they don't ask me for proof of income later.

alliance CC so bored, can't they offer some special campaign?
*
haha, almost all the major credit cards now offering some kind of cash back promo (with T&C and cash back not guaranteed) but not Alliance Bank. But you know what Bro, unlike other credit cards, most of Alliance Banks credit cards entitles you to guaranteed Cash Back everyday which is credited monthly (for the VI annually with minimum spending) PLUS unlimited points. So you can say Alliance Bank got guaranteed cash back Promo throughout the year tongue.gif

I must say I was surprised with Alliance efficient CS Dept - I emailed my CC application form in the morning and before 5pm I received a call from their processing department to verify if I made the application. She told me they will perform credit check the next day and then get back to me if required. My application was in process the same day I sent it in thumbup.gif Now keeping fingers cross that they don't request for my proof of income... if yes, habis. FYI, I did not submit any documents except the forms.... they don't really need my info anyway since they can access their system to check my accounts and personal info.

Hi All,
My 1st ever post on LYN..
Had bad exp with 1st & only CC (EON) until it expired in 2009. When started working abroad (2mths on/ 1mth off) in 2011, I was only using Debit cards i.e. MBB, CIMB & BIG. Read & learned from such forums, Gen-X blogs (mostly) I gave in.
Got my Alliance VI in Feb2013, pushed by desire of Priority Card sigh. Thought 1 is enough but seems I do need atleast either Amex/MC to compliment the VI.
1. Any suggestion?
2. Would Alliance use/ share my current CL if I apply for their Plat MC?

Thanks
*
Welcome to LYN Bro.

Glad to know some of my articles played a part in brainwashing you into getting another credit card tongue.gif And you made the right choice getting the Alliance Bank VI since it offers unlimited entries to airport lounge vs MBB VI's 5 times.

Now, if you have been reading my blog you will know that I always recommend Maybankard 2 Cards AMEX and OCBC Titanium MasterCard for local spending. The MBB 2 Cards is FREE For Life and as such no need to waste time calling in for annual fee waiver. And if you see the most popular thread on a specific credit card, you will note it is the Maybankard 2 Cards Thread (started by yours truly). Only thing about AMEX card is that is subjected to fraud because their security measures are like none. So if you can receive sms alert when you overseas, then the MBB 2 AMEX is good. Moreover it comes in pairs, so get the MC and you will have Visa, AMEX and MasterCard whenever you are smile.gif By the way, check out my facebook account and go read about my supp AMEX was used for online fraud cases. And also check out this thread on Fraud Calls Reported by LYN members.

haha, I don't know. Just wanted to seek clarification on it.

Anyway, Vyper COYS, to get the MBB 2 Cards immediately (with relevant documents) you can go to The Gardens Maybankard Centre (near Robinsons) or KLCC Maybankard Centre which I got no idea where it is located.

Good question, call them at 0355169898 and ask.

If your partner wants FREE unlimited access to KLIA too, get him/her to apply the ABB Plat too.

Now, if one spends RM5K a month, the Alliance Plat is a very good card, even better than OCBC World MasterCard offering 1.2% cash back.

Click here to my article Effective Cash Back Rate from Credit Cards where I shown that one gets up to 1.723% with Alliance Plat. And from the example in this article, you should be able to work out if the Alliance Bank cash back PLUS reward points are any good to you.

And Click here to my article A Little Bit of This and A Little But of That AGAIN, where you can see that one needs to spend RM100K with the OCBC World MasterCard just to earn the about same equivalent pure cash back (about RM800) from the Alliance Bank Platinum with RM60K/year spending (reward point not included which means you need to spend even less). However, please be warned this article is freaking long so just scroll down until you see the OCBC credit cards image to start reading.

MBB AMEX RM1000
HLB WISE RM1000
Then the rest maybe RM1-RM500, i think none of Alliance credit card suitable for me right? Still Stick to OCBC Ti for better deal?

Maybe none of the Alliance Bank Credit Cards will suit your needs but their Debit Cards sure can.
