QUOTE(1024kbps @ May 3 2013, 07:12 PM) Read wont kill your SSD, only write(but it take a lot of time to wear out your SSD lahh), but normal user shouldn't worry that much, you will probably change the SSD to bigger capacity every a few years, else ppl buy SSD for what? like buy a new car but worry tires and engine wear kah LOL I see...well that's sure a wonderful news. I might use the BR1M (if still usable after "change") on PC fairs to get another SSD for RAID 0. QUOTE(1024kbps @ May 3 2013, 07:12 PM) That piece of metal also that expensive? i think most SSD includes bracket one, ask the seller before buy one. I bought 3 different model of SSD before, 3 of them also got bracket inside. If not, use double-sided tapes stick to your pc, cheapest solution lah Meh, I did stated it's less than RM50 din't I? Anyway, there's some other brand that use better material *gods know what's the difference* that cost around there.

QUOTE(merchant9 @ May 7 2013, 03:53 PM) That was the only one available in the store and also the fastest among the Kingston SSDs. Mind if I ask you how much did you bought? Heard that Kingston SSD price increase a little a month ago.

QUOTE(BlueDream2 @ May 9 2013, 04:01 PM) for me SSD is about performance............ if dont want performance better using HDD..... but the big problem is price.... too get performance u need to pay.... What else is new? You never seen a car with the price of perodua kancil with the speed of a Ferrari. But seriously, IMHO I prefer reliability over performance... even you paid about RM4xx for a SSD (Kingston, OCZ, idk), the speed compared to a RM2xx Plextor only makes little difference.

I think you're not "getting" what I meant, You've said: QUOTE(BlueDream2 @ May 9 2013, 04:01 PM) but the big problem is price.... too get performance u need to pay.... QUOTE(jimmylim85 @ May 10 2013, 10:05 AM) Honestly speaking, no matter how fast the performance. Waste money as you're not bench-marking daily right?? For daily fast usage, Plextor is more than enough. If you can afford it, is your money, is your way. By the way, I have a question... If I let the PC idle (download stuff) for 24 hours will it generally degrade my SSD performance and lifespan?

QUOTE(cstkl1 @ May 10 2013, 11:53 AM) depends on ure ssd's i/o consistency and nand degrade on commercial units no.1 is neutron gtx ( heck its almost as good as enterprise units)(pricey and performance not as good as sandforce (with nand) or samsungs or marvel on writes/reads) no.2 sandforce (but has nand degrade issues) I'm using Plextor M5S 128GB

QUOTE(cstkl1 @ May 10 2013, 12:25 PM) nah dont worry too much i run torrents off my ssd about 20gb D and 50gb U a day for the last 2 years on x25m Raid 0 x 3. Estimated life remaining so far at 80 percent and the read/write array on trim just dropped slightly host writes on SSD 1. 14.46tb SSD 2. 13.88tb SSD 3. 14.25tb so no worries. use it till it dies lol. Thanks for the intel.

QUOTE(hmwgbworld @ May 13 2013, 06:32 PM) Anyone tried out SSHD? It seems offering a very good price over performance with more capacity. Not sure if its a right place to bring out this discussion since its both SSD and HDD. You mean the hybrid drive? it's available on the market already?

QUOTE(G_KeN @ May 14 2013, 07:21 AM) Hello there, i have a question. As a hardcore gamer, which option shud i go for? Raid 0 2budget ssds like plextor m5s or 1 single high end ssd like samsung 840 pro? Thanks! I for one go for bigger capacity SSD rather than Raid 0, it's not that plextor M5s is bad (I'm using one). It' just that if there's anyting happen to one of your raided 0 SSD...then it's goodbye data. Edit: When does hardcore gamers have to do with raid 0? I thought those for benchmark fanatics This post has been edited by Yagami5159: May 14 2013, 08:18 AM

QUOTE(G_KeN @ May 14 2013, 02:29 PM) well, since the overall performance would be lower (cheaper ssd), i thought maybe raid 0 configuration can make up for it when it comes to straight fight with something like samsung 840 pro / neutron gtx not to mention, purchasing 2 x value ssds is cheaper than purchasing 1 x performance ssd. so im pretty much in a dilemma right now as my budget only allows me to stretch a bit to buy either 2 x 256gb value ssd or ended up purchasing just 1 x 256gb performance ssd. one 256GB SSD will do

QUOTE(benlye @ May 28 2013, 11:20 PM) Got my 2nd SSD : ) Plextor M5S 256GB.. Earlier was using Corsair Force GS 120GB.. Died on me.. How long had the Force GS serve you? QUOTE(hmwgbworld @ May 27 2013, 11:17 PM) Most probably 3gb/s cable i think, since no label. 7.4 not bad, at least u can feel the significant difference from HDD. Mine just 7.9. Some improvements u may refer to the first post about how to optimize the ssd guide. Not sure if it works the same as amd platform. I dont feel much improvement from the guide, but it helps to solve my ssd freeze problem somehow. Mine also 7.9 as well... Odd, it should be 7.9 for most the people who use SSD, probably something is bottleneck the SSD?

QUOTE(chrischiang @ Jun 1 2013, 04:15 PM) consider a few ssd.. does the ssd write speed need to be consider??? intel 330 120gb corsair force 3 120gb kingston hyperx 3k 120gb curcial m4 128gb im considering the cost/performance and reliability.. thanks Why not plextor M5S 128GB in the list? it's worth to buy IMO. Other than that: intel 330 120gb corsair force 3 120gb kingston hyperx 3k 120gb these three SSD are using SandForce controller while the crucial are using Marvell. I'd say go for intel 330 or HyperX 3K if you really don't want to consider the Plextor M5S.

QUOTE(danny1010 @ Jun 2 2013, 03:49 PM) ssd in MY is cheaper than in SG:? SG have wider variety of choice when it comes to PC hardware, for my point of view the price range are almost the same, so the answer is no.

QUOTE(everling @ Jun 14 2013, 03:46 PM) If the game has already read all the data it needs from the HDD/SSD, no. If the game dynamically loads data while you're playing, you may see less stutter when doing or encountering new things from a cold start. It has been a rather popular observation for some people who play Diablo 3 and upgraded to SSD. For example, smooth first-time casting of skills from a cold start. On the other hand, some games may not benefit from SSDs. Internet flash games for example probably wouldn't be affected. The read/write performance is good enough and hasn't seen significant improvement in a long while. The current focus in SSD improvement is in IOPS performance consistency. The Intel SSD DC S3700 (200GB) ReviewSanDisk Extreme II Review (480GB, 240GB, 120GB) In addition regarding to whether SSD improve gaming performance, there's some game like "Fallout 3, Borderlands 2, Rage" have a features call "hidden loading". Running these games under SSD will reduce the time taken for "hidden loading" making it unnoticeable. So technically yes, SSD improves gaming performance, but not too much.

QUOTE(markypcs @ Jun 14 2013, 04:24 PM) Planning on building my first pc in August/September. A friend of mine is selling his Intel 510 Series 250GB SSD (owned for a year) for AUD$120 (RM360 approx.). EDIT: He is also selling his Corsair Force 120GB SSD (owned for a year and a half) for AUD$60 (RM180 approx.). Since my SSD knowledge is sub par, what do you guys think about buying a secondhand SSD? What is the selling price of those SSDs in Malaysia? Not recommended, especially for Discontinued SATA II SSDs and with the price like that I rather buy a new one IMHO. Some hardware are just not suitable for 2nd hand re-sale, and SSD are one of em.
