Yes we will have better cpu/gpu and other tech, but there will be a big restriction on smartphone aesthetic design, people will be forced to get an apple IOS .... it's sickening >->;
So this means future samsung and other non apple smartphones will need to revert back to the ugly outdated style ?

If you think about it, how else would a smartphone look like. touch screen base is the way to go. so that part would obviously be flat and cover as much surface size as possible.
then the shape of the phone would be thin and rectangular in shape. The edges may either be boxy or rounded.
but apple doesn't like competition so they are making ridiculous claims by patenting the rectangular design on smartphones to block any competition.
First to patent rectangle wins

The jury validated almost all of Apple’s claims against Samsung, for many different smartphones and tablets, putting the South Korean electronics giant on the hook for $1.051 billion. The jury also found that at least some of the infringement was “willful,” which helped lead to the high figure. (Take a look at the complete verdict form here.)
Among the Apple-patented features Samsung devices were found to have been infringing upon: the “bounce-back” that happens when you scroll to the end of a list, double-tap zoom, pinch-to-zoom as well as the design and iconography on iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches.
The Samsung devices affected include the Galaxy S, Galaxy S II, Mesmerize, Vibrant, Fascinate, Skyrocket, Epic 4G Touch, Droid Charge and Nexus S smartphones and the Galaxy Tab and Tab 10.1 tablets. It’s not known what the fate of the infringing products will be yet.

Added on August 25, 2012, 8:30 amFor the iconography you can see why they would say they copied them.
E.g. the sunflower. Why did samsung have to use a sunflower like apple did to indicate a gallery ? their rendering of it was different, but when lots of the images e.g. gallery, contacts, mail etc are just remixes, there is a consistency of copying the idea of the set of icons used in apple products but now in samsung albeit remixes of them.
So on that point i can agree they were copying the idea somewhat, but i don't see how that justifies a 1 billion dollar fine o.o;
because after all, apple does not have a patent on sunflower used in art do they ?

The proper term for this iconography copyright is referred to as trade dressing.

In the U.S., like trademarks, a product’s trade dress is legally protected by the Lanham Act, the federal statute which regulates trademarks and trade dress.[2] Trade dress protection is intended to protect consumers from packaging or appearance of products that are designed to imitate other products; to prevent a consumer from buying one product under the belief that it is another.[3] For example, the shape, color, and arrangement of the materials of a children's line of clothing can be protectable trade dress (though, the design of the garments themselves is not protected),[4] as can the design of a magazine cover,[5] the appearance and décor of a chain of Mexican-style restaurants,[6] and a method of displaying wine bottles in a wine shop.[7]

pinch to zoom is a very useful feature, and is what makes navigating the web on the smartphone so easy. not only that, i use it to view pictures, and read my manga. so what will happen for Samsung Galaxy S3 which has this feature ? Will it be stripped away in a future firmware update ? Does anyone know
Pictures of all the Samsung products banned
