Plug and play is fine, as this is not a power hunger or low sensitivity earphone.
But you can pair with a portable amp to make it sounds even better.

If you like portable and workouts, go for Govibe Mini box amplifier, it has light weight and durable aluminium design.

heard that currently jaben is heavily out of stock, went there yesterday and that is what they told me, even there are a few customers purposely looking for that.

Beyerdynamic XP series are all bass oriented, no doubt, even after 30+ hours of burning of the XP3 still has some bass on it, it's due to the cable design, huge-flat~~ and the microphonic is pretty annoying if you move around much.
Compare XP3 to VSonic GR02 Bass edition, GR02 has much punch to the bass and detail (with the right ear-bud), while XP3 is much neutral across all bands (clarity/detail focus) but still has the muddy bass feels to it (cable design).
Overall Beyerdynamic has make it right (this time I heard?), and the shop (SCLG) here already has few pre-order for XP2 and XP3.

Personally , I might choose the GR02 over XP3 due to the microphonic issue, it's really big thing for me as I sit near my desk fan, it can get really annoying on a hot day. GR02 has smaller, softer cable that reduce the microphonic, for the rest, XP3 is a good choice, looks cool as well if you walk in the street, "hey! it's a BAAEEEYEEERRR~~"

The microphonic effect might due to the flat cable, however try to use it with the cable slider near to your bottom part of your face, it will reduce a lot.

The flat cable could be a plus, could be a minus, it is cool naturally, and it is anti tangle. Meaning no matter how you put it, it can't be tangled. It is also more durable.
