2005 In June, Peter Sauber announces he is to step down as team principal after negotatiating takeover by BMW for 2006.
2004 Major wind tunnel investment pays off handsomely with impressively consistent season. Score points in 12 races to finish a lonely sixth in the constructors' table. Sign former champion Jacques Villeneuve for 2005. 2003 Difficult season, scoring points at only five races, usually in wet conditions. Best result at Indianapolis, with Heinz-Harald Frentzen third and Nick Heidfeld fifth. US race also sees team lead a Grand Prix for the first time. Both drivers dropped for 2004. Finish sixth in constructors' championship. 2002 11 points is enough to give Sauber fifth place in the Constructors' Championship. The best result of the season is fourth and fifth in the Spanish Grand Prix. 2001 The team's best ever season with fourth place in the Constructors' Championship. 2000 Sauber finishes eighth in the Constructors' Championship with only six points. The highest finishes were two fifth places in Germany and Monaco. Both cars are withdrawn from the Brazilian Grand Prix after spectacular rear wing failures. 1997 The team's best performance of the season is Herbert's third in the Hungarian Grand Prix. 1996 Johnny Herbert finishes third for the team at the Monaco Grand Prix, team mate Frentzen taking fourth place. The team finishes seventh in the Constructors' Championship. 1995 The team achieves its first podium as Heinz-Harald Frentzen finishes third at Monza. 1993 The Sauber team manages a scoring finish in its first Grand Prix with J. J. Lehto taking fifth in South Africa. The team end the season sixth in the Constructors' Championship with 12 points. |

My support goes to the BMW Sauber team when the season starts. Its because Heidfeld is there. I hope to see what he can do with the new car. To me he's a very solid driver and can deliver the results if the car is competitive.
As for Villenueve, hope he doesn't take out his team mate again during over taking manouvers |

Jaques is too old for all this.
Petronas is not the main sponsor, so no green color BMW Racing color (all racing, not just F1) is Blue, White and a little Red. If they want to win, get rid of Jaques quickly |

Well, ralphie is still available, but if they want to aim for the championship, younger drivers is the way to go now. If they can poach Heiki from Renault, it should be good

Alex Yoong didnt manage to qualify to race for a few races when he was with Minardi but we don't see that happen to any other drivers in Minardi. Alex's time is usually about 1-2 slower than Webber when they were teammates.
Well maybe too much respect for his rivals..... |

CODE BMW decides to keep Sauber name BMW Sauber will launch their car in January in Valencia BMW will call its new team BMW Sauber in next season's Formula One campaign. The German car giant announced in June it would end a six-year partnership with Williams and buy a majority stake in Peter Sauber's Swiss-based team. "The name chose itself. It reflects the team's make-up - run by BMW but with a core of 300 Sauber employees," said BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen. Peter Sauber, who will remain with the team as an advisor, said: "It's nice to see that the name will continue." Willy Rampf will remain as technical director at the Swiss factory with Heinz Paschen named as technical director Munich, where the engine will be built. Germany's Nick Heidfeld has signed from Williams on a three-year deal and joins Canadian former world champion Jacques Villeneuve as the team's drivers. |

Yoong is not for F1. He's fast in CART tho, which is quite amazing. Anyway, if sauber Petronas engineering is still there, than some Petronas personnel sure will keep their jobs

The problem of BMW Sauber is they are lack of man power. Others team such as Ferrari is running their wind tunnel on 3 shift but BMW Sauber only have 2 shift. Great facilities but lack of staff. Wasted.

Great facilities but lack of staff. Wasted. DONT understang la about all the 3 shift.....2 shift...explain plez....Not impressive at all. There's alot better younger driver like Nelson Piquet Jr. However Fairuz got Petronas backing him. |

yeah, remember last year that Ferrari refuse to agree on testing ban. Time and testing are the most thing an F1 team cannot get enough of

Rebel with a cause: Jacques Villeneuve ![]() Jacques Villeneuve has a reputation of being an unconventional driver, and at times the BMW Sauber F1 Team driver has even been considered a rebel. Jacques himself, however, has a different opinion. "Being a rebel means going against the establishment purely because you're against the establishment and not because you have your own ideas," Jacques remarks. "Sometimes I disagreed with the establishment, but this is because I have my own ideas, which is different to being a rebel. Normally a rebel is without a cause." Jacques has always done his own thing on and off the track. Recently the passionate hobby musician performed his first stage concert in front of an audience during the GP24hour ski race. Jacques also plays ice hockey for the "Monks of Bretaye" and enjoys to go skiing in his leisure time. The Canadian believes it is very important to have a rich and fulfilled personal life. "It means that you can get up in the morning and do what you like doing," explains Jacques. "It's about your personal satisfaction, and this needs to be part of your life." BMW Sauber F1 Team was in action again
The BMW Sauber F1 Team was in action again at the "Jerez Circuit" today. Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve continued the team's preparations for the first Grand Prix of the season, which will be held on 12th March in Bahrain. Under overcast skies for most of the day, Nick and Jacques were both hampered by minor problems on the second day with both new BMW Sauber F1.06 cars on the track. Jacques was behind the wheel of the new chassis during its second outing after Wednesday's rollout. The Canadian completed the scheduled Bahrain tyre option evaluation. However, just at the end of the test day a cooling system was damaged by a foreign object, which forced him to stop testing. Jacques covered an impressive distance of 487 kilometres or 110 laps. His personal best time was 1:18.207 minutes. Nick worked on the set-up of the car and tested Michelin tyres for the Bahrain Grand Prix. Unfortunately, he was forced to stop early due to a fuel system problem and was therefore not able to complete the scheduled programme today. On lap 50 of 62, the German clocked his best time of the session, a 1:18.271. Tomorrow Nick will continue with the Michelin tyre test for Bahrain, while Robert Kubica will drive the new car for the very first time. He will spend the morning getting used to the F1.06 and to do long runs for further Michelin tests. BMW Sauber F1 09 Feb 2006 |

out of topic a bit, jz wanna ask u guys, which season u guys like to watch the most?
for me is the 2001 season where sauber was really very strong among the lower batch teams compared to the then dominating williams, ferrari and mclaren. then it was the last two seasons where i prefer to watch the battle of the underdogs and the battle between kimi raikonnen and shumi. last season was nice seeing the end of ferarri's dominance. |

wuteva it is.i'm glad petronas wit them..with bmw still using same old staff plus new staff...it means...there will be some technology transfer to petronas(since this is one of the thing petronas ask from them)
n still..its hard to predict until the race has begun....since reability of the car also the important factor(da reason renault win even mclaren is da fastest) This post has been edited by amirsubhi: Feb 11 2006, 03:29 AM |

![]() BMW Sauber F1.06 - double-decker front wing At the F1.06's post-launch test session in Valencia, BMW Sauber immediately started development of the new car's aero package, trialling different versions of the front wing. The latest used was one sporting a double profile, following the concept introduced last season by Renault and subsequently followed by many other teams. This solution seems able to provide additional downforce, but with a proportionally low increase in drag, and is very likely to be used when the season starts. I know, but with that statement that comes with the graphics, it seems that BMW pioneered that. I also just read the F1 Mag Feb issue. Seems that they have a bigger wind tunnel than both Renault and McLaren but they cannot fully use it to it's full potential |

![]() BMW Sauber F1.06 - rear-end detail As on all the 2006 machines, the sidepods are smaller and narrower, particularly as they reach the 'coke-bottle' section at the rear of the car (red arrow), where the bodywork looks like a second skin applied to its internal elements. This minimal design is intended to smooth the airflow to the rear diffuser. Hidden by shields at the car's launch, the F1.06's diffuser looks very similar to that of the previous Sauber C24 in its side sections, sporting a small flip-up right in front of the rear wheels, hiding within it two heat sensors, and sporting a small, vertical fin just inside the wheel. |

Well, if the car goes well, BMW should be able to do a few challenges.... However, in terms of drivers.... well, i dont particularly like Jacque, he's abit like the rusty guy in F1 and one of the many ppl who is being labelled as the "no-braking" guy out there in F1. No offence to the Jacque fans out there, ok? Just my POV. Of course, I'll support our country's sponsored team anytime regardless of the drivers

QUOTE(Chartry @ Feb 14 2006, 12:30 PM) nope. that year the williams was so powerfull that it was said you can take some obsecure person, put him in the williams car and he can become world champion. Jaques has an issue with both Patrick head and Frankie Williams in 1997 and ppl believe that he can become world champion because the car was soo fast. another pont to ponder, in 1997, the team was not behind him, but only renault. |

QUOTE In 1997, he again took the title fight down to the last race, narrowly leading the points for the Drivers' Championship title. Schumacher uncompromisingly crashed into Jacques Villeneuve's Williams Renault after Villeneuve attempted to overtake Schumacher, when the German left the door open under braking into one of the curves of the Jerez circuit. Despite the fact that the Ferrari was literally thrown into the side of the Williams, it was the red car that ended up on the gravel and out of the race. Villeneuve's badly damaged Williams eventually finished third in the race, thereby winning the Drivers Championship title that year. In a bizarre and controversial decision by the FIA, Schumacher was disqualified from the World Championship final classification that year, but his results and points were nevertheless kept in the official records. jacques villeneuve win just bcos of luck....after schu was disqualified.... just luck.... Actually it's no luck. Michael knew that he can't win that day. so he did like what he did to damon hill in 1995. He ram into Jaques
unlike 1995, jaques can continue the race and Michael was deemed to make an unlawful and unsportmanship move for the SECOND time (after 1995) so the FIA had no option but to DQ Schummi. Schummi is not as good hearted as everyone think. |

he passed away on 1994 at age of 34..so that time schumi was on the grid too...so if he didnt passed away..i believe, schumi was unable to win the 2 titles that 2 years.

No doubt Shummi is a very good driver. However IF another very good driver comes along to fight for the title especially till the very end, hehehehe..... we'll be able to see the dark side of Shummi.
2 collisions during the 2 title deciding races caused by the same person? Bizzarre I would say. |

Bahrain GP: BMW Sauber race notes
This was not a great start for our team in Bahrain. After starting from 10th and 11th places respectively, neither Nick Heidfeld nor Jacques Villeneuve was able to score points in this opening round of the 2006 FIA Formula One World Championship. After an incident after the start, Nick dropped to 19th and had to fight back to 12th. Jacques retired on lap 30 with engine failure. Nick Heidfeld: "Obviously things started badly as Nico Rosberg spun me in the first corner. I lost a lot of places and that ruined my race. I was able to fight back and had a particularly exciting battle with Coulthard. It's difficult to assess our performance after only one race but naturally it's disappointing when you start 10th and can't score any points." Jacques Villeneuve: "My start was not particularly great, but I managed to find my way through the first few corners and to stay out of trouble there. The race set-up was fine and I settled into a good rhythm. I overtook Coulthard and stayed in front of Raikkonen for quite a while. Then all of a sudden I started to lose power, and that was it." Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): The start of the weekend was promising, but unfortunately we could not maintain our performance for the race. Jacques' car suffered a serious engine failure, without any warning. The unit was removed immediately after we got the car back, and sent to Munich for analysis." "Nick was the victim of a collision in the first corner with Nico Rosberg, and was relegated to the tail of the field. From there he recovered to 12th but the lap times were not as good as expected. That shows that we have started well but still have much to do." Willy Rampf (Technical Director Chassis): "After qualifying we were optimistic for the race, but I have to admit that our pace this afternoon was not at the level we had expected after practice on Friday and Saturday. We have to analyse the reasons for this carefully, but for sure there is a lot of work to do." Nick Heidfeld: 12th Chassis: BMW Sauber F1.06-04 Engine: BMW P86 Fastest lap: 1:33.772s, lap 26 Jacques Villeneuve: DNF (engine failure) Chassis: BMW Sauber F1.06-03 Engine: BMW P86 Fastest lap: 1:33.694s, lap 20 |

I wonder if the BMW engine is still the most powerful on the grid. Last time during the v10 days, it's really one hell of a great engine limited only by the lousy williams chasis.

QUOTE(Cahill @ Mar 14 2006, 01:30 PM) previous seasons they are using ferrari's engine right? but how come the result not like ferrari's?? when they said engine is not everything...they mean it well...not just engine n tire, they oso used ferrari's 2k4 chassis in fact, the speed is almost similar according 2 speed trap the result is diff bcos the setup is diff...car setup plays a very important role in car's behaviour...not 2 mention driving style/skills |

Hi all... Though I'm a ferrari fan, i suport sauber as well, only because of petronas
hmm...speaking of malaysian driver, we already once had, and it shows why we malaysian shouldn't buy a seat in F1. If there's a talent from malaysian, i'm sure someone would notice it... |

Malaysian GP: Preview - BMW Sauber F1
QUOTE After the initial stocktaking at the season opener in Bahrain, there's no opportunity for the Formula One teams to catch their breath. The second of 18 races in the FIA Formula One World Championship - the "PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix" - is lined up for this coming Sunday, 19 March. The BMW Sauber F1 Team is looking forward to the home race of its main sponsor Petronas and bracing itself for the rigours of a race in tropical conditions. On Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix, drivers Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve as well as BMW Motorsport Director Mario Theissen and Peter Sauber will have several PR appearances. For Wednesday, the 15th of March, interview sessions with the media is scheduled for 10:00 am at level 41 of Tower 1 of the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Nick Heidfeld: "The Malaysian Grand Prix is unusual mainly for its high temperatures and extreme humidity. Basically I don't have a problem with that. Last year I started from tenth place and made it onto the podium - for me it was one of the most exciting races ever. I had some tough duels and a lot of fun. We have experienced some incredible cloudbursts in Sepang, but I can live with that as I basically enjoy driving on a wet track. So far, I've managed quite well in Malaysia whatever the conditions. I also know the country quite well by now. To get acclimatised I have often taken a brief holiday there before the race, and there has also been plenty on the Petronas agenda - that's Malaysia's oil and gas company, who were also our sponsors back in the years when I was driving for Sauber. When you see the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, you get some idea of how important this company is for the country." Jacques Villeneuve: "Malaysia will be a very busy grand prix for the BMW Sauber F1 Team because it's the home race of our main sponsor Petronas. The track is quite interesting and physically very demanding because of its long high-speed corners that generate high lateral g- forces. All this takes place in high ambient temperatures with an extreme humidity, which means that you really need to be physically well prepared. I am confident for the race." |

Malaysian GP: Friday Practice - BMW Sauber F1 Team
QUOTE Sepang (Mal). A good start for the BMW Sauber F1 Team to the PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix in the sauna of Sepang. All three drivers ran well as we concentrated on tyre evaluation. Jacques Villeneuve: BMW Sauber F1.06-03 /BMW P86 1st Practice: no time / 2nd Practice: 9th, 1:37.045s It was a pretty good start for us today. To be honest, much better than I expected. The balance of the F1.06 was really good, which is very important so early in the weekend. I had a completely troublefree day and it was fun to drive with the high level of grip available. Nick Heidfeld: BMW Sauber F1.06-04 / BMW P86 1st Practice: no time / 2nd Practice: 12th, 1:37.418s Our first day of practice was fine, so I'm quite happy. This afternoon it wasn't necessary for me to do a lot of running, because the balance of the car felt good straight away. Sepang is a circuit I really enjoy, driving is so much fun here. Robert Kubica: BMW Sauber F1.06-02 / BMW P86 1st Practice: 2nd , 1:35.733s / 2nd Practice: 13th, 1:37.457s We gathered plenty of data today, especially this afternoon when we did some race simulation, and obviously that is the most important thing on a Friday. Sepang is quite a difficult circuit, with a lot of long corners with different lines, but I think after five laps I felt quite familiar with it. Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): This first practice day went as expected. Robert did 59 laps and most of the set-up work, and as in Bahrain he did a good job. The only problem we had all day was a slight glitch with the clutch as he was leaving the pits on his last stint this afternoon. We now need to make our tyre decision and to work on set-up for Saturday, and thanks to our reliability today we have plenty of data to enable us to optimise the cars. Willy Rampf (Technical Director Chassis): Today we concentrated completely on tyre evaluation. Robert was doing the long-runs, so we were able to collect a lot of data which we now have to analyse in order to make the best decision for qualifying and the race. ![]() |

Petronas are sponsor only now, unlike previous years when they were not only sponsors, but worked side by side with the Sauber team using the Sauber Petronas Engeneering (SPE). SPE has now been bought by BMW.

Rosberg will blow the engine every second race
anyway, it's too soon to see improvement from this team. For one, the team is based in Swistzerland, which is a far cry from the traditional central england base for most of the other teams. england is easier because there are nearer test tracks and most of the workers based there so no need to commute that much. Also the BMW headquaters are still based in Germany, so it will take a long time to send and recive data between the headquaters and the BMW-sauber base. give them 2 or 3 years |

Teh F1 fuel is the same as the one used by the companies to sell for regular consumers. this is because the FIA want's the technology used to be shared with regular ppl.
McLaren - Mobil 1 Williams - Petrobras/Castrol/Texaco (will change according to venue, same company) Ferrari - Shell Red Bull - Shell (part of engine agreement with Ferrari) BMW Sauber - Petronas (with Syntium as engine lube) Renault - ELf |

Nope. Texaco is the parent company of both Castrol and Petrobras. Usually, they will use petrobras as the sponsor, but for races where petrobras is not sold in the country (like here and the USA), it's changed to the one more that is sold here. No extra money paid. it's the right of the sponsor

Hmm, i just can't let that statement go
QUOTE(BMW Sauber) BMW Sauber's Mario Thiessen today, released a press report regarding rumours on his car's apperent 2nd engine blowup in as many races. Thiessen was quoted as saying, "Regradless of what every reporter is saying, the engine did not blow up because of processor overheating. It has nothing to do with the Intel Processor at ALL!". He was also commenting that while some say the AMD is the faster processor, BMW managed to finish in front of both AMD powered Ferrari. |

If the name Petronas is green, and the rest of the car is dark blue and white, won't look nice.

Yeah, they reduce the radiator size so that it works just as efficient as if it was in normal weather.
The chances of engine problems are pretty much the same. But the benefit of reducing radiator size is very very big, the reliabilty is neglegible. |

Frustated.
I thought when I saw the word BMW, they were using Williams engine. But nope. Then no hope lah. Sauber should sponsor Williams...better car and faster engine. Williams has no sponsors this season...pity them. They have great cars. As for me...Raikkonen all the say ;-) Hate Alonso..Spanish clown (see his gestures after he wins? Stupid gestures) He won last year just by luck...pure luck. p.s: not gonna support McLaren anymore when Alonso join in. |

Maybe I heard it wrong but the commentators mentioned that Williams
is not like last season where they have a lot of sponsors. I prefer 8TV's F1 coverage compare to Astro Super Sport...to me their commentators is boring...especially the moustache glasses guy. He think he knows everthing...but he's doesn't. 8TV's commentators is ok..Martin Brundle Ex-F1 drivers and they know what they are talking about. I mean Petronas should use Williams engine & car. Williams Cosworth right? Should be Williams Petronas etc. |

QUOTE(yusri1426 @ Apr 13 2006, 07:58 AM) Maybe I heard it wrong but the commentators mentioned that Williams 8TV got f1 coverage? i really hate starsports, damn lots of ads.....i remember last time TV3 got showing....but dont know why now not showing anymore...is not like last season where they have a lot of sponsors. |

I guess I'm not quite clear with the names of teams in F1. Quite confusing sometimes. The point that I wanted to say is...wish that Sauber cars is as fast Williams or Sauber drivers using Williams cars. They have fast cars...can fought Renault and McLaren. Pity BAR Honda...just a few yards..engine blew up...imagine if Jenson is on his way to win his first GP? I think he'll threw the steering wheel as far as he could after he got out of his car Alonso...kiss my a** Arrogant huh! Luck...pure luck last season. Raikkonen is the world champion last year. Well...McLaren's liabilities really sucks. Although I support them. We'll see if they can deliver in San Marino on the 24th April. As for Ferrari...Ferrari was built for speed..pure and simple. But since the new regulations...they have been struggling. If not...Renault would never ever be on top last season. McLaren & Ferrari would be neck to neck like the previous season. Anyway, had enough la with Schuey winning each time...bored me Toyota is improving. Give them time...they will be world champion. Rich team...don't underestimate Japan. |

Schuey so jealous in the press conference after Mika won his last World Champ. Kimi threw steering wheel? I guess he's still a hot tempered person. He doesn't talk much. |

QUOTE(yusri1426 @ Apr 12 2006, 11:36 PM) Frustated. ok, even if Sauber has an engine, how are they gonna sponsor Williams when they are the ones who sold the team to BMW? the reason the the old Sauber is fast is bcoz they are using Ferarri engines. anyways, it will be a good fresh start for them, i've always been optimistic to this team. no matter what, they will bounce back and create surprises. Stupid gestures) He won last year just by luck...pure luck. p.s: not gonna support McLaren anymore when Alonso join in. i like mclaren mercedes for its driver, Kimi. this fella is a good driver, but many times he fails coz of technical problems. hope he can do it this time and clinch the champion this season. |

.....
Red Bull is using the Ferrari engine and does not go well at all this year. and Peter Sauber himself felt that F1 really is too much for him, thus he sold his company to BMW. |

What? You didn't know?
Sauber is sold to BMW, Minardi to Red Bull and Jordan to Midland. But BMW felt that as many of teh sauber engineers are still with the team, it's rude not to include the Sauber name. also, Peter Sauber now only goes to the Malaysia GP because he's the PR for BMW and Petronas relationship. Other than that, he won't be involved in F1 anymore |

Toyota is up there because they have a huge budget, in fact the biggest in F1... but now BMW... So, I guess we still have to wait for maybe another 2 seasons before they make a huge impact... At the moment, I still think BMW is an average team... But I am proud of it... |

Why? The FIA cannot intervene with the decals of sponsors as it's contracted. the only time that the FIA banned a livery was in '99, when BAR want's to run in two different car colours. and even that, it was not because of the livery itself

Spanish GP: Qualifying - BMW Sauber F1 Team
BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Nick Heidfeld qualified tenth in Barcelona. His team-mate, Jacques Villeneuve, will start from the back of the grid with a fresh engine for the Spanish Grand Prix. Nick Heidfeld: BMW Sauber F1.06-02/BMW P86 Qualifying: 10th, 1:17.144 min (3rd practice 3rd, 1:16.057 min) I am happy to be in the top ten as the lap times are quite close. I think it would have been difficult to beat the other cars in front of us, and even though I lost some time with Ralf in front, honestly I don't think it would have changed anything regarding my position. The set up was fine on one lap, and I hope we can see the same tomorrow over a race distance. The balance of the car changed, and it was quite different for all three outings. Jacques Villeneuve: BMW Sauber F1.06-03/BMW P86 Qualifying: 14th, 1:15.847 min (3rd practice 17th, 1:17.924 min) The first run went very easily and the balance was very good, but then the wind picked up and the car's balance changed. We still concentrated for the set-up on what we need for the race with high fuel and all that. We were not at the optimum for qualifying, but I was still expecting better than that. Mario Theissen (BMW Motorsport Director): Once again it was very tight. After the first part of qualifying there was less than a second between first and 14th places. In the second part the first 11 drivers were within one second of each other. For us we had different strategies. It was clear Jacques would not be able to start in the top ten because of the engine change. For Nick we concentrated on getting him into the top ten, which is exactly what he achieved. On his first lap he got stuck in traffic which cost him quite a lot of time. What his starting position will be worth compared to the opposition we will see tomorrow at the first pit stop. Technically the cars ran problem free. As Jacques is starting from the last row anyway, we will fit another fresh engine to give him the best possible chances for here and Monaco. Willy Rampf (Technical Director Chassis): Getting one car into the third qualifying session is positive as this gives us a good platform to start the race from. How good this tenth place will end up being we cannot say, as we don't know everyone's different strategies. Jacques was very good in first qualifying. Not doing so well in the second session hasn't played a very big role in his weekend, as he has to go back ten places anyway because we have changed his engine. BMW Sauber F1 Team 13 May 2006 |

I'll support this team if they have good pace.
It's Malaysian team correct? This year we have Williams Cosworth...they were Williams BMW last year. They have fast cars. What do we call Saubar if those cars join Petronas? Williams Petronas? I'm sure we'll be competitive. |

QUOTE(yusri1426 @ May 14 2006, 10:53 PM) I'll support this team if they have good pace. it will most probably be Williams Petronas if they really wanna collaborate and join in as shareholders or sumthing like tht. y not? It's Malaysian team correct? This year we have Williams Cosworth...they were Williams BMW last year. They have fast cars. What do we call Saubar if those cars join Petronas? Williams Petronas? I'm sure we'll be competitive. btw, i think after nick's performance this weekend, he is starting to shape up with this team and JV was juz unlucky. if he didn't had an engine transplant, i think he got the chances to stand in top 5 today. |

The McLaren horn is because they are the only team other than sauber not using a vertical T-wing mounted on the airbox. Thus the Sauber engineer copied that because it will has less impact to the aero design of the airbox compared to mounting a T-wing
the Twin tower was banned because it looked so damned ugly it insenced Max Mosley |

Hmm... They have not say anything about Kubica replacing Jacques permanently... But for sure, Kubica is racing this weekend... Well, there was speculation that Kubica will be taking over Jacques place next season since his contract will be over, but who knows what might happen

BUDAPEST, Aug 7 (Reuters) - BMW Sauber parted company with Jacques Villeneuve on Monday after replacing the 1997 Formula One world champion with Poland's Robert Kubica for the Hungarian Grand Prix a day earlier.
The team said the Canadian would not drive for them again this season, a decision that looks sure to end the 35-year-old's grand prix career after 163 races and 11 victories. "Following discussions last week, Jacques Villeneuve and the BMW Sauber F1 team agreed to terminate their current contract with immediate effect five races ahead of schedule," the team said in a statement. BMW team boss Mario Theissen thanked Villeneuve for his contribution in the German carmaker's first season since they bought Sauber last year, but said a recent accident had prompted the team to review the situation. "Jacques has performed well for us this year, scoring the team's first grand prix points in Malaysia," he said. "However, after Jacques's accident in the Hockenheim race, the team decided to review its options for next year, including assessing Robert Kubica in a race environment. "Our decision to look towards evaluating our driver line-up has naturally impacted Jacques' position for the remainder of this season. |

Robert Kubica has been disqualified from the results of the Hungarian Grand Prix after his BMW Sauber was found to be underweight following the race. Kubica had finished seventh on his Formula One debut. Stewards praised the "assistance and cooperation" they received from the BMW Sauber team, who proved that Kubica's car was inadvertently 2 kilograms below the minimum requirement because of "excessive and unexpected tyre wear (and therefore weight loss) through continued use of wet-weather tyres in comparison to the accustomed and anticipated rate of wear of dry tyres." The stewards nevertheless had no choice but to exclude the car as it did not comply with Article 4.1 of the Technical Regulations. BMW Sauber did not contest the decision. It means Felipe Massa moves up to seventh place, with Michael Schumacher now classified eighth, despite not finishing the race. The point Schumacher scores means he is now just ten behind Fernando Alonso in the drivers' championship standings, while Ferrari are only seven behind Renault in the race for the constructors' crown. |

Schumacher slammed as Villeneuve attacks
Villeneuve brands Schumacher a liar QUOTE Jacques Villeneuve has launched a scathing attack on his former Formula One nemesis, Michael Schumacher. In an interview, to be headlined as 'Jacques Attacks' on the cover of F1 Racing magazine next week, the axed BMW Sauber racer branded Schumacher - the seven time World Champion - as bland and a liar. French-Canadian Villeneuve, 35, said: "I think the day he hangs up his helmet people will just forget him." Referring to Senna, Prost and Mansell, Villeneuve added that 'those people attained a hero status that Michael never has and never will'. Villeneuve and Schumacher's acrimony dates back to 1997, where at Jerez they collided at the climax of their championship duel. "Michael simply isn't a great champion," Villeneuve continued, "because he's played too many dirty tricks and because he isn't a great human being." Villeneuve, who resigned from the drivers' GPDA body after the infamous Rascasse affair at Monaco this year, also accuses Schumacher of being a 'liar'. "He lies not only to fans but to his fellow drivers, too. He just stared in our eyes and lied. He thinks he's bigger than the sport, and when he retires, and no one really remembers him, that will become clear." Source GMM CAPSIS International http://f1.racing-live.com/f1/en/headlines/...817092106.shtml aiks... what's that all about? btw, i didn't watch the GP, what Rascasse incident? |

QUOTE "Before the race some guys from the team came to me and told me they would like to see me on the podium, I thought it was a joke and now we are here. This time we knew we had good tyres, not only for qualifying but also for the race, unlike in Istanbul. When we got easily into qualifying three we also knew we had quite a consistent car for the race. I had a good start, but unfortunately locked the front wheels in the first corner, had flat spots and the first stint was quite difficult as I had a vibration. It was always a tough race as I had to fight with Massa and Alonso. Lapping the guys did not help as I was the first one of the group to lap them and I always lost one second. I came out of the second pit stop side by side with Alonso. Then his engine blew up and it was really risky as there was oil, Massa went off and I think had a puncture. The end of the race was quite easy for me and I just had to bring the car home. I now have the first podium of my life in Formula One. I want to thank the team for giving me this opportunity ' we all are very, very proud." source |

Congrats to the Sauber team
You've made us Malaysians proud. Kubica...rookie of the year 1st podium for him. At Monza we now know that BMW Sauber has a good speed, at least after reaching certain high gear. Ferrari had a problem getting close to them when reaching certain gear. Good job. This post has been edited by Raikkonen: Sep 11 2006, 12:33 AM |

Yea, for a rookie driver, nobody would expect Robert Kubica to standout ... And Kubica has definitely proven them wrong, his driving style is pretty calm as he manage to hold off Massa at the start of the race and at the same time clinching opportunity everytime he is able to. A great driver indeed

Poor Heidfield. Impressive driving shown and yet Sato put an end to it all at the last lap. Pretty amazed at his driving and sustaining both Barrichello and Button behind him.
But i guess the Honda management team was pretty funny as there was no command to let Button pass Barrichello, and ordered them to duel it out. I guess they must want to have a look at who is better between both of them as both of them was pretty on par the whole season. |

Takumi Sato is a reckless driver.. That for sure... Act as if he is Fujiwara Takumi but end up.. a stupid driver who dunno when to give up places when his car is slow.. Should have penalty him by fining him.. No wonder Bar Honda drop him at the first place.

i have always believed that team super aguri is just an excuse to save takuma sato's formula 1 career in addition to adding another japanese driver to the track.

Anyway, BMW is getting very competitive nowadays.
And, Yamamoto and Sato both are useless, perhaps Ajinomoto is better... |

BMW Sauber uses ALbert2, one of the world's fastest supercomputers to design the car's aerodynamic body. It's main memory is 2,048 Gb - it 256 nodes with two Intel Xeon 5160 processors each, and each of these has two cores. This results in a total of 1024 cores and a maximum computing power is 12,288 GFlops. This means that Albert2 is capable of performing 12,288,000,000,000 floating-point arithmetic operations per second.
Taken from gizmag.co.uk Hope this works. FOund one picture here. Sorry cannot upload because it won't let me. Not a good picture but you can see the new aero elements at the sidepods. Everyone is doing that this year. How would everyone know to put that thing there? http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_new...es_art_id=30307 This post has been edited by tunertoobe: Jan 16 2007, 08:22 PM |

Heidfeld hopes Massa beats Raikkonen
QUOTE Nick Heidfeld says he hopes Felipe Massa beats his other ex-Sauber team-mate Kimi Raikkonen in 2007. Amid a growing sense of anticipation for the underrated Massa's 2007 campaign, BMW's Heidfeld agrees that the Brazilian has a chance to outshine his new and high-profile Ferrari team-mate. Heidfeld was Raikkonen's team-mate at Sauber in 2001, and at the end of the year was bitter at being overlooked for the vacant McLaren Mercedes race seat. Raikkonen's replacement at Sauber was Massa. Cliquez ici... "In the first tests Alonso was in front," Heidfeld answered when asked about the current state of play by the German newspaper Bild an Sonntag, "but Ferrari is clearly now the strongest team." "I like Felipe a lot, and I could get to know him a lot better than I did with Kimi," Heidfeld continued. "I would be happy if Felipe drove out the front." hehe... another proof of Heidfeld's bitterness at Raikkonen. that'll be an interesting watch this season, the battle of the ex-Sauber drivers... |

I always believed Quick Nick has the potential to become a good racer. It's just that all these while he is not given a good car to challenge the F1 title. I think he has a chance for the 2007 season

not a bad finish for the team during the opening season. sadly kubica did not finish, else it might have been a 4-5 finish for the saubers. great run by heidfeld and kubica.

yup, pity that Kubica had gearbox issues or else we would have gotten a few more points. not bad to start the season 3rd in constructors championship standings.

heidfeld really doesn't do consistent laps during race. on the first lap, he manage to get 2nd place, but in the end, we was left by lewis, who's in third place for about a few seconds. I think, kubica is faster than him.

i wonder in klcc is there a bmw sauber boutique that sell the team merchandise?
lazy to go all the way to sepang to buy the polo shirt. anyway, another solid performance from nick heidfeld. did well to keep massa behind for most of the race. hopefully bmw can further improve the engine to match those from maclaren n ferrari in the up coming race as obviously the car still is not as competive as those front runner. |

Nice work Heidfeld.
Very experience driver. Kubica had a problem with his car. They do look strong. At least 3rd position this season. Who knows, they might took advantage on the front runners. This post has been edited by Raikkonen: Apr 9 2007, 01:30 PM |

they got a fantastic car this term, especially the performance part. the improvements are significant compared to last season. indeed, good machines must come with good drivers, great drive by heidfeld and kubica. at least they are showing the top two teams that they too can give a good fight for the win. keep it up, i believe we can still clinch the constructors this season.

BMW Sauber used to have great straight line speed (or still having it now) but they need to work more on their aerodynamic package now so that they could get out of the corner fast..

Anyway, its good to see that BMW is not falling behind and Heidfield has shown some promising feats last season. Just hope that he will continue to be calm and continue to struggle to improve his standings. Alonso probably got too confident with his skills that cause him the loss.. still no doubt, Heidfield is good in a sense.. |

QUOTE(KimRoss @ Apr 15 2007, 09:50 PM) I believe BMW has done a mighty great job since taking over from Peter Sauber. As Peter Sauber says it himself, the team has a lot of potential; they just didn't have enough funding to really compete with the big boys. BMW has really bought a winner...Best of luck to you guys . Really enjoy watching Heidfild drive QUOTE(edwin3210 @ Apr 15 2007, 10:10 PM) hmm....its very funny to see some ppl saying "heidfield pawn alonso" Actually, the ESPN/StarSports commentator was saying that BMW is as good as the Ferraris and McLarens on race day, they just don't yet have the speed to out qualify them. So once they return to Europe, we could see a much improved BMW car and challenge the duopoly that exists currently. |

They need aerodynamics now as they have the speed to competeQUOTE(sqwerk2 @ Apr 19 2007, 09:12 PM) RM250 and above |
