QUOTE(NeoMnemonic @ Nov 9 2016, 09:17 AM) with all the skills there it's like a "swiss army" designer. Well it's better to always learn everything, be damn good at one thing but make sure you know the rest. I specialise in web design but I can do logos, corporate identity and anything related to print as well. I even do video editing and I can do animation in after effects. I even code mobile apps. It's easy to pick up the basics but it goes a long way in impressing employers

QUOTE(NeoMnemonic @ Nov 9 2016, 11:01 AM) Now the trend is into UI/UX designer. Any idea what skills needed to learn to be one? I worked as UX designer in HP 3 years back, before my current job. It's boring as fuck. You need to learn Illustrator in and out. I was doing UX for printers so basically whole day just think of icons to sketch out. After that we would map out the whole on-screen navigation process for the UI and then you just find places to cut it out. It requires good drawing skills and godly illustrator skills.

Maybe in for mobile apps?

Maybe in for mobile apps? Depends. Some companies do not require the UX designers to code. Only to research, wireframe, test and refine - working with the UI designers / developers. It'll be more common for UI designers to know HTML/CSS if company is related to the Internet, because it's like a minimum skillset. Then to throw in a curveball, frontend designers need to design and code html/css/javascript.

Maybe in for mobile apps? It depends on what's the industry. If it's related to mobile apps, basic coding should be expected. Nonetheless, I always believe every designer should learn html/css. It's fairly easy and it goes a long way in projects. Especially if you choose to do freelance you can make yourself available to tons more projects.

I think besides the art skills, you need to have a good grasp on what makes a good UI, user flow, and to think from a user's POV. A lot of designers lack these. QUOTE(etsuko @ Jan 4 2017, 04:14 PM) Art Director is an Exec level now? Prolly cause it's an in house one haha. This post has been edited by doinkz_gaara: Jan 4 2017, 04:43 PM

It's like really saying there's no meaning anymore to having the "Director" there.

Jobstreet = from 3k until 8k Apparently some companies have Junior or plain Art Director, then Senior Art Director.. And funnily.. some who's got 13 years experience will only earn 3k as an AD (laugh die me) [1] http://www.payscale.com/research/MY/Job=Ar...99/Kuala-Lumpur[2] https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/malaysia...N170_KO9,21.htm[3] https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/malaysia...N170_KO9,21.htmThis post has been edited by etsuko: Jan 4 2017, 11:39 PM

It really depends on your skills and portfolio. I'm not a designer but I've seen newbies get higher salaries than some who are over 10 years in the industry. Those who are not versatile tend to stagnate.
