Why you would need to be countering others where you already hit the max ceiling limit earner as graphic designer already in Malaysia and especially in KL and Selangor area. The next step you would need is going for more at the same time learn more in the process.

Sorry to say that Artist/Designer Salary is really under pay comparing with other industries in Malaysia after I have observed all my artist friends and non-artist friends for few years.

For example, a 3D artist working for 5 years but salary is still below 4k and bonus is depend on which company. Meanwhile, IT/Accounting/Banking etc working for 3 years already can get more than 4k plus every year got bonus.

p/s: All these mentioned above are not superior positions

Most designer are underpay because there's way too many people applying for the same job.
To get a high salary, you gotta be smart. Look for the ones that have less people applying.

For example : Event Designer (concept / 3d) , Product Designer .... etc

Or, other way is, have a great and polished portfolios. Simple as that.
If you have a good portfolio + a decent amount of work experience ,
even the one posted on jobstreet with a low salary will call you for interview no matter what you put
for your expected salary.

And getting a freelance job also isn't that hard. The hard part is, getting your client to pay, and pay on time.

Since you have 7 years of experience in the DTP (printing). I'm sure you should know how is the process of the DTP department works. Why not look for the same industry with a managerial post. I'm sure you could get around RM3.5k and above salary.

Starting afresh with a new industry from 31, needs a lot hard work, time, knowledge, etc to be successful. If you feel stress living in KL, what makes you think that it is less stress in other places. We all hear and see the good things that people say, but we seldom hear people say about failures and how competitive or hard their job is.
