Hello new user here! Upgraded from my 4 year old nokia Symbian40.
I bought it from the LCW discount. hehe it's a pebble blue.
I'm so dumbfounded I'm slowly  trying to digest this whole new world of smartphones. I notice that my screen seems to be a bit yellowish if viewed directly in front of the screen, but if it's tilted slightly, the colour balance will be much nicer. Is this a manufacturer's defect? Should I change the unit? It's quite hard to quantify the yellow tint but i certainly see the screen much nicer colour when tilted slightly. Thank you for your help

Mine's slightly warmer too. If it's TOO BAD (aka, like the iPhone 4S piss yellow screen) get it changed ASAP. Otherwise, it's just Sammy and shitty AMOLED manufacturing QC (the screens are SUPPOSED to come out of the factory with a slight blue tint, supposed to anyway).

For me, I like slightly warmer whites so I decided to live with it (it's more "correct" anyhows. Bluer whites are actually quite wrong). Plus, my unit had no other noticeable defect.

It's all up to you though. It's your device and you're under warranty.

But that said, the iP4S piss yellow screens really are piss yellow.

Thank you very much for your input. I certainly overlooked the fact that maybe it is such a small matter and I might end up with a unit with worse "defects". I cant say about iphone because I haven't use one.. I think I better bear with it for a while, as I haven't explored everything to find out if there are other issues. The warranty's 1 year right? So maybe I'll use it for a full month before deciding whether to send for warranty or not. Thank you

Yes, that's it. You know what Windows Virtual Memory is right? If your RAM gets overused to a certain amount, programs that "don't really need to be in RAM" gets transfered over to a swap-file on your HDD. That's virtual memory.

This swap works about the same way, but it's actually an entire partition. Stuff that "don't need to be in RAM" (for instance, a game you just jumped out of) can be sent to this partition to be kept "on hold" until you need it.

Advantage of doing this is that you can even keep huge games "on hold" without closing it. In effect, you're increasing the amount of "memory" you have - and you can keep more stuff running at the same time.

If it works as it should lar.

Disadvantage is, stuff in swap runs SLOOOOOOOW (if it runs at all), and thus it's really more suited to keeping things "on hold". There's gonna be a little lag too when you bring stuff out of swap back into "active RAM" - but we DO have a quad-core processor after all.

Also, as it's on a specific partition at the end of your memory card, any damage (yes long term use of swap on ANY flash memory run the risk of "killing" that portion of flash memory) will be limited to that part of the memory card ONLY. Even if your entire memory card goes kaput, you can easily replace it too.

Which is why this is the best way to run swap IMHO (vs using the "popular" way of putting a page-file/swap partition on internal SD, which is faster but, well, will kill your internal SD - which in turn is not as easily replaceable as ExtSD, right?).

I actually kinda appreciate that they put a few more screen modes there like 'natural' and 'movie' just to make things a little bit less saturated for those (like me) who do not really fancy too saturated colours. Mine was indeed a bit tad blue. Not too much though... just kinda overly saturated. I've always picked the mode 'movies' in my SII  which to me looked more natural. Now I'm using the 'natural' mode which makes things a little bit warmer and ... more 'accurate'

Really, if you do feel it's a bit too warm, you should get it changed. cause Like what was said before, it's supposed to be a bit cooler. but if you can live with it, then erm.. it doesn't damage your device or anything
