One comment. My ping to 8.8.8.8 is 100% sent. As we pass by 58.71.243.225 everytime we ping 8.8.8.8, why it works every time then?

I'm trying to compare details so that we know what is stable setup with Maxis Fibre... that's all.

At the moment I know hop 58.71.243.137, 58.71.243.225, 58.71.244.1 gives very poor latency (up to 40% packet loss)

TG784n also gives very bad latency as the first hop 192.168.1.254 compared to Custom Router

I want to change my router as I don't like the Thomson at all, but I do not know whether or not VoIP will work with other routers, does anyone know?

Bro ronnie, the 1st hop out of router is always slow as the connection from ONT is configured as Interleaved mode rather than Fast mode which TM have set. I believe they have a reason why it is configured that way.

Google Interleaved vs Fast mode for more info.

Notice bro Le Chad traceroute only used 11 hop to reach Google while your side used 14 hop to reach Google.
Maybe it is also better to list the area where you are staying for complete info.

Interleaved is configured towards error correction (this is to achieve stable connection for as data line could be noisy) on the data packet before the packet being traverse out to the Internet which is gives certain disadvantage as it slows down the data packet routed out. This is why the 1st hop is always slow.

For Fast mode, there is no validation and error correction and thus the response could be faster but data packet may be lost due to noise in the line. For internet line which has quiet line (low noise level), the fast mode could be a better option.

Hope this give you some idea. For more details, use google to find more info. The answer is out there.

Oops... TM's sets the Mode to either Interleave or Fast.... Does this affect the constant disconnection ?
Streamyx don't face this issue.

Please don't compare Streamyx and Maxis Fiber as both as using different technology.
How do you compare Apple and Orange? can you tell me. doh.gif

Location wise maybe be sensitive info.
We just want to confirm the number of hops + latency is similar at most locations.
