i see  hmm.gif
anyway people hoping wait for the samsung note 2, may be disappointed to know that it will come with ice cream sandwitch instead of the newer jelly bean.

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone-and-co...eatures-1089295
so better cpu, camera, bigger display size are almost to be expected. possibly even differen storage space and ram size. but software wise, i seriously doubt it will be any better than the galaxy s3 out already.

i'm not saying note 2 won't be superior hardware wise, it most likely will, but the question is in terms of value for money bang for bucks, s3 may be more worth it i suspect (well need to wait for the price anouncement in august 2012 to be sure).

but i don't think people would be disappointed getting an S3 now :/ unless they really want a bigger screen size or slightly better camera e.g. 12mp vs 8mp

Added on July 25, 2012, 6:43 amAnyone seen this x-ray image of the samsung s3 :} ?

pretty awesome =^-^=;

I'm wondering whether the s3 with only 1gb of ram will be sufficient to use the jelly bean :/ when samsung officially releases the update for the s3 if ever.

but one thing for sure, doesn't seem like s2 may be able to use it :/ apparently.

The Galaxy Nexus does Jelly Bean fine. And how much RAM does it have? 1GB last I checked.

Plus, your S2 info is outdated. A week back SamMobile has news that Sammy ALREADY has S2 and S3 JB builds in testing, and is planning to release in a couple of months.

Trust me, if I know Sammy, "a couple of months" is gonna "mysteriously" coincide with the announcement of the new iPhone.

well thats good to hear for the s2 users :] personally though, i'm getting S3 so less risk there  cool.gif

may i know though, is this OS upgrade via firmware a recent new thing ? Or has the smartphone market been doing this a while ? Or does it always end having to purchase a new phone to get the newer OS ?

Because my plan for an S3 is to be future proofed, so i can upgrade the os when updates for android roll out over time.

granted that there will be stuff i am sure it isn't able to do due to lack of hardware needed, but i think it's almost got everything, although i'm a bit worried about whether the malaysia 1gb ram is sufficient for future proofing  hmm.gif  the quad core cpu is pretty decent so not too worried about that  sweat.gif
*
You're worrying too much about the future, IMHO. Phones are obsolete the moment they get to your hands lol. As a rule of thumb, the S3, or any modern pieces of mobile tech is good for 2 years. Any more and it gets HOPELESSLY left behind.

But future proofing wise, the S3 should be okay up to Key Lime Pie (the next update after JB). Anything after that would be a stretch, as per the two year limit. At least OFFICIALLY.

Unofficially, even the relatively old Nexus One should get JB, thanks to enterprising custom ROM builders.

And the current mobile OS update craze? Google and Apple started it lol. Which is actually a good thing - during the Symbian/WM days of old, a new OS usually meant having to buy new phones to come with it.

oh alrite :{

but one last thing though, since amoled has degradable organic component how long is the expect life time on that ?
http://www.radio-electronics.com/info/data...rix-organic.php
so although samsung s3 is better than the htc one x in terms of having a replacable battery (curious why htc didn't opt for this), but the samsung is also has an expiry on it's display which obviously is not going to be replacable either.

If the phone can physically last 5 years, i think that is a winner already  smile.gif
*
With heavy use (and by heavy I mean 12 hours of ACTIVE USE per day average), the OLED on my old S2 started showing low level burn-in symptoms after 1 year. I sold it off already, but if I extrapolate that, the SuperAMOLED+ screen should be "dead" by 2-3 years of "heavy" use or 4-5 years of "normal" (5-6 hours a day) use.

Which is on par with the manufacturer estimation.

The S2 SuperAMOLED+ is full RGB, which means it would theoretically DIE FASTER compared to a SuperAMOLED(no plus)HD Pentile screens of similar size and density.

So taking that into account (and minus-ing the fact that we have denser, bigger screens) the S3 screen should last AS long (or maybe slightly longer) then it's predecessor, say 4-5 years of "normal" use.

Granted, it would start yellowing noticeably after the first 2-3 years (due to blue OLED death), but like I said, the estimated "obsolescence" of a modern mobile is around 2 years anyway, so it's fine all things considered.

And who says the screens ain't replaceable? 500 gets you a new screen now, It should be relatively cheaper in the future.

Personally I'm more concerned with the totally "plastic" bodies of the current crop of modern mobiles lol.

Alas, we're already too far into the disposable age anyway. You can't expect too much from anything these days.

also the s3 has a very nifty feature that can detect if your present, so it will omitt the setting to auto turn off display and go into standby. It's very practical, and you increase the efficiency and life expectancy of your amoled display usage with zero annoyance of finding the phone in standby when your still using it.
*
Though Smart Stay is nifty, it's not perfect. It likes to screw me over at night and close the display when I DON'T want it to lol.

On a sidenote, most ICS browsers now have "inverted greyscale rendering mode" (aka night mode) built in, which helps to save battery as well (as most websites are light in colour).

QUOTE(Moogle Stiltzkin @ Jul 25 2012, 09:24 AM)
I totally agree with you, however in the end, can they deliver an aluminium body at the same price ? (which i seriously doubt).

In the sense that i rather have lots of good quality features with an ok phone exterior build, vs having a nice exterior, but crappy software features, i will always choose the former doh.gif but if there was a third option to offer best of both worlds but at a costlier price, i'd choose the former because you get the bang for your bucks.

i've till now used a nokia phone, so i'm very used to these plastiky builds, but that wasn't what annoyed me most about my nokia. it was mostly the lack of features in terms of software and hardware capability which made me hate that phone.

in 2012, lots of these laptops have a front side aluminium cover which makes typing on the laptop nice and cool, and yet they are still very affordable to own. but i'm skeptical whether the smartphone market will be able to offer the same thing at also a reasonable price  hmm.gif

not to mention the design. the htc one x, has a nice aesthetic look, but without a replacable battery, seems a bit inpractical.
*
Can they? Ooooh, they sure can make aluminium unibody phones at the same price. But profits will be slim, and who wants that?

Plus UNIBODY ALUMINIUM phones will wreck havoc on waves, hence the iPhone's Antennagate (the signal attenuation part, which, to a lesser degree, the metal bodied Nokia E71/72 also suffered from).

but if switch to wifi, everything is working fine, anybody experience similar problem? what should i do?

thanks a lot

Celcom? It does that sometimes. Just check if you can browse. If you can there should be no issue.

I VPN to tunnel through this "Play Store Block", when it happens.

I'm on a 2G area. Logging into facebook and Google (Gmail) is 100% fine. Slow but fine.

@Eiraku
Ah... as much as we love unibody builds(I practically drooled over the N9 when it first came out and I held it so carefully in my hand; and those Lumias 800/900)... I think it'll be a bomb. I wouldn't want it to be aluminium or metal though cause the waves would be killa~ but the polycarb on the nokia devices.. still, I would say Nokia still makes the BEST hardware of all.
*
Wholeheartedly agreed. Everything else feels like a toy next to flagship Nokias, the crappy N97 included.

A shame they had to go the Balmer way.

@Jackdon: Try "Clipper" from Play. Not 100% as convenient but close enough. Also you can setup "autotext" in certain Keyboards (like Smart Keyboard Pro), I use it the same way.

in android , you can directly copy (place you finger on the text ,and highlight the text) ,then choose copy. go to the place you wanna paste click paste.

He's actually talking about a cydia hack that extends the copy paste bubbles to include extra commands. We don't have anything similar (and why the heck not, we're an open OS right?) but Clipper is close.

I just keep a quick shortcut to my favourite notepad app in notifications for extended copypasta purposes + autotext shortcuts in Smart Keyboard.

Hmm.. that is not what I want to do, let say I am in an SMS an I want to insert my home address. In Action Menu I long tab just like edit and then the Select/Cut/Copy/Favorite menu comes out. Note the favorite part. I select Favorite menu I get a list of my pre define phrase. Not go to the other page select/copy then paste.

Check my replies. Clipper man, clipper! Works the same way, but it hides in your notifications. Slide down, select Clipper -> clippings (your pre defined stuff), go back, paste done.

@alanliao: 1st, can you even surf the web? 2nd, unsecessful first time, go take another password and try again.

Weird. You should be fine with the settings I gave you. UNLESS.

1) You're running AdFree or AdAway (in which case you need to whitelist certain servers).

2) You're running a custom ROM with the VPN bits removed.

Otherwise I'm stumped.

Oh, the IP doesn't mean much.

Really. Use the phone first, to it's limits. Know what you want but can't have with stock firmware.

Then Root.

As for me I already know what I need so diff story lol. Straight away root + Wanam within a few hours of buying the phone.

Rooting is not magic. It will not GIVE YOU A BETTER PHONE if YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

Similarly to jailbreaking - which is simply getting root access for iPhones. But now people automatically associate jailbreaking = piracy.

Similarly to the rooting now, people think rooting = piracy. Which makes me sad (considering you don't NEED root to steal anything, REALLY).

last week, friend went there... thought wanted to order. All sold out.

Still no news of stock arriving here. Apparently no stock even in the Peninsula.

It's like fate lol? Or rather a sign that the 32GB shipment is incoming.

I'm finally getting used to inverted web rendering. Saves a hell lotta juice too considering I surf 80% of the time I spend with me S3.

Quite sure its AP set seeing its from mobile care stop . Hate that shop , good in twisting their words . Best those interested please ask is it SME b4 purchase . Where got a single word saying SME also . It's "ORIGINAL SAMSUNG GALAXY S3" meaning its not fake aka china made copied version .
*
Hmm.

I guess I'm gonna wait for the 64GB version from SME myself, IF IT EVER COMES OUT.

Preferably in Black too.

Actually, FYI (for those who don't know) inverted web rendering is ACTUALLY different from Siyah's total colour mDINIE invert (which freaks me out). It converts stuff to greyscale first AND THEN inverts. Which is kinda cool - if you can get used to it.

It's available in ICS+ browser, or you can find the option to enable it buried somewhere inside the stock browser options.

Updated to BLG6/WanamV19. Smooth sailing so far with Domination's framework mods (only). Now with boosted sound and NO AUDIO CRACKLING WOOHOO even on Wanam StockMod kernel.

Now waiting for a full updated release from Vert to address the crashing phone issue. And also an updated AndroidGX systemUI.

Audio boost (Siyah style) and zero audio crackling (used to happen unless you run Siyah and set proc idle to "idle only"). It's still smooth as butter though, especially with Wanam StockMod Kernel.

Holy Bazinga, how'd that happen? I mean I drop my S3 all the time (sometimes it drops hard) and it's still fine.

Which, for a plastic phone, is quite lucky IMHO.
