oic... guess need to have a test drive and get the feel before order...  rclxms.gif

Both of you go test drive the exact Polo 1.2 TSI test-drive car.
Each drive one round.

Then, test drive other brands which maybe in your mind, e.g. altis, civic, sylphy, 308, focus, etc.

Several main considerations to me:
1) Does your g/f need the big size boot of a sedan car for now (or future 5 years) ?
2) Does your g/f need to carry 4-5 or more people frequently ? Like every weekend family dinner, etc.
3) Can she accept overall higher maintenance & parts costs that is not under warranty period in long term (as compared to Jap/Kor generally) ?

Since this is 2nd car (g/f) ... I guess a small zippy car will be fun.

1) nope, she like to have a hatchback car.
2) nope, usually just herself or fetch me gua  tongue.gif
3) looking at the financial part, still ok. do u mean the maintenance part just like KIA/Hyundai car???  hmm.gif

any recommeded SA???  rclxms.gif
*
1) Ok, pass.
2) Pass.
3) e.g. if normal service at authorised SC for T/H, a ball park figure will be 200-400 for minor, and 400-1k for major service. But for Polo TSI, be prepared for 400-600+ for minor, 800-1.2k for major.
Not including if need to replace/repair/fix other parts.

SA - try 2-3 showrooms, nego for deals or free stuff. No harm, as you are customers also.
Or some SA do read this thread and may PM you.

BTW, I'm not SA tongue.gif

I tell you. black / dark color even hard to maintain.  shakehead.gif

worst nightmare
*
I don't think so. Previously I drove a dark-grey car.
Compared to white, the white easily noticeable:
1) Once it rains, streaks of dirt-lines rolling down the sides/back.
2) Tiny dots of black/tar at the front door and rear bumper. Also some on front bumper/bonet.
3) If don't wash, car turn slight greyish.

Is the Golf good for long distance driving?
*
To me it is good enough for KL trip to Penang / Ipoh. Also driving on trunk road from Ipoh all the way back to KL with stopovers at Kampar, Tapah, Bidor. Took 3.5 hours on trunk road.
Follow speed limit, no speeding. Sort of like a cruise driving for me. Laid back driving. Kena potong by kancil/wira/datsun at felda areas around Trolak trunk road. Fine with me.

But when there is a need to overtake on trunk road, shift to S, slam it ... wonderful feeling.
Once pass Serendah towards KL, traffic is getting heavy and not that relaxing already.

thinking of buying new polo 1.2tsi. is it worth buying a polo or should i go for used golf 1.4 tsi? will be doing mostly city driving and occasional highway usage. what should i look out for if buying used golf?
*
For me, except the price comparison ...

1) size - do you fit into polo ? I mean your body size, and sit with at least some comfort and space. Otherwise, golf. If golf also feel small, sorry lah, need to go bigger car.

2) Test drive 1.2 TSI few times. Are you really really happy with the power ? Test golf 1.4 TSI. Is it worth the price you are going to pay for the extra performance ?

3) Interior - you judge yourself, depends on individual liking and acceptance level.

4) Rear seats and boots - not much difference, but is it acceptable if 1.2 ? How about 1.4 ?

Golf 1.4 TSI, I'm sure you aware of the 7-dry DSG. Same with Polo. A new car will have 5 years warranty. A used car may have less. Since now is year end, try source for discounted cars or pre-regs wink.gif

QUOTE(superryan @ Dec 17 2012, 02:23 PM)
very upset with VW service.
send my car to the service center for the 1st time.
car jerking when idle and also 2 gear into 3rd gear.
they say clutch and fuel pump spoil, need to change, and min have to wait 3 weeks for the item to arrive. and need to leave the car there for 3 day.
and they dont have spare car for u to use.
and also my car door got sound when opne, they just apply yellow color grease on top,
so now car door no sound, but when u open door u can see the yellow color thing on that door sad.gif.
1st service
they just change engin oil, oil fliter, drain plug. ?
and one more diagnosis test which i dono what is that.

iam not sure the 1st service they check the turbo, or they even check the battery or brake, balancing or not.
it make me feel like they simply do only.
i feel the car is the same b4 i send for service.

worst thing, when i collect my car, they don't even wash or clean it  !!!!!!

anyone facing same problem?
1st service cost me rm500ish and i not sure what i pay for the rm500 also.
and place that i can do a feedback to VW.

thanks.
*
No choice, either complain to VGM to ask for a spare car when the parts arrive.
The grease is apply at the door hinge there, right ? That's quite normal. You can clean up some excess if you want.
1st service, as per written on job sheet, is 3 items you stated only.
But ... normally I notice they top-up my radiator fluid (pink) and windscreen washer fluid.
After my first service, I think they did something, the car feels more firmer. I check tyre pressure is the same.
Diagnosis is most likely the DSG update, 37G7 ? Lift up your rear trunk carpet and see if there is a sticker nearby the spare tyre.

I think quite a lot of owners prefer them not to wash the car, even me. I don't want the car get scratched from their one-bucket wash system, if you ever see how they wash it (similiar like under the tree type).

RM500 first service is about there.
Feedback direct to VGM, rather than to the outlets.

thanks you for your reply.
how to contact VGM?
VGM stand for ?  tongue.gif

i dont think they top up radiator fluid and windscreen washer fluid for me also.

i agreed your concern about the washing. smile.gif

but after near to one year driving, i think they suppose to check balancing ? agliment ? or battery status ?
it did not stated in the work slip, so not sure they do check or not. but normaly agliment will do i think.

on of the technician say very normal for vw car to have clutch and fuel pump issue. we had change alots of vw car various model..
i was thinking if is so often, why dont they keep stock ? tongue.gif

i dont feel different yet, maybe need to wait untill they change my clutch and the fuel pump le....
*
VGM = VW Group Malaysia. The principal itself. err... google search lah

Mine they did top up. Cause when I check before and after:
- radiator (pink) is below centre by 1cm+ for that ball, after is directly at centre.
- I try top-up w/s washer, but is already full.

Alignment, balancing, batt status, etc all extras, I think are not included, unless specified. Otherwise, too many things to check, I cannot recall, but need to refer back the service booklet on the items to check.

They do keep some stocks. Try pressure them a bit, or escalate your case to VGM for faster action.

Why not set to 7.5k ?
Cause official VW service is every 15k km

QUOTE(gamenoob @ Dec 18 2012, 05:25 PM)
Yes I know every car/brand also got their own issues and not perfect... but looking at close friends and relatives getting all excited when buying and now cursing kaw kaw every day...

The nos of piston failure/crack due to misfiring vs the nos of car sold in MY, is dangerously high. A friend of mine had his golf tsi engine replacement that took more than 4 months. No courtesy car by the way...SC said misfiring melted 2 piston and scarred the engine block so must replaced whole engine...

If VW sold a lot like P2 or Proton and having some cases, I can understand la.... but VW is not even a volume brand... yet the nos of  misfiring problems and DSG7 failure that need mechatronics or Clutch Pack replacement among Passat, Jetta, Golf, Polo, and Roc is way too high of % and unacceptable. Infact almost every VW driver that I know that using DSG7 dry version have either mechatronics or clutch pack replaced.

And please no stupid fan boy comment defending saying its one cant afford hence cant comment. I just wanted to see just how long can VGM playing this selling game with poor after sales as well.

Service appt now minimum 3 weeks booking. My cousin is not too excited that he have to wait that long just to book the first service at 15k...either. Touch wood, he have no DSG7 problem ... yet.
*
Alright, not going to comment, except my service in Dec-2012, the booking is <10 days (including weekend) whistling.gif
I think another forummer also booked within <7 days. rolleyes.gif

Same. Veemer OKR. I called in early Dec (2012, not 2011 tongue.gif ). Serviced already last week.
Service and attitude overall is ok. Not perfect though. Saw a young-uncle shouting (mildly) with his wife about his car spare parts not arrive or what sweat.gif

QUOTE(zenix @ Jan 2 2013, 12:15 PM)
Why not compare VW against Lexus or Mercedes too?
Normal brand against premium brand no comparisons mate.
*
LOL ... VW I went in, the most/max ... is sometimes they serve me plain water. The rest are self-service, with nescafe machine and plain water. I think that's all.
For service, walk in you've to open the door yourself.
Then walk to recep, they point you to SA desk. Wait slow slow and queue stand behind. If wait at sofa, sure kena cut queue. Nothing I can do while standing there, except scratch my head/cr0tch.

Went to Merc Batu Caves, full service given, like in a cafe/restaurant. They serve all the way to sofa/table, even I walk to the counter to pickup, they not allow. Nescafe machine, water, nasi lemak, kuih, puffs, etc. Short of maggi mee/goreng only.
For service, walk in got a guard open door and wish you good morning.
Then walk in to recep, then just goto sofa. Then wait... the allocated SA will come to find you, bring a folder-clip and sit next/near you to chat and write down, explain everything you need (while being served refreshment). Like a boss la...
Basically, the first thing my hand touch, ... is the nescafe cup.

So, is correct. Cannot compare la. Premium brand against "people's car" standard brand, which I agree also.

But so far, in terms of human service at SC (not showroom), attitude, presentation, etc. both are humble, explain clearly, soft spoken, nice, thumbs up. But Merc SC still slightly better, they don't pretend to smile (which I notice at VW sometimes).

Is there a way to tweak something within our car to enable continuous lights on even we switch off the engine and lock our cars and the lights will go off seconds later?

I only realize cars like my Golf only turns on the lights when I unlock my car.
*
Yes, only one side (either left or right). I forgot the exact term, but there is a warning-light indicator in case you park at dark roadside/alley, for other drivers to see the small-light of your stationary car.
Can't recall the exact term, have to put lights at Auto, after off, then some maneuvers on signal stalks (left/right) on which side you want.

Won't drain the battery since it is a faint light. Read the manual.
