you should know that deciding on a bike for how it sounds on idle is uh.....ridiculous. Superbike V2, Superbike, let discuss

QUOTE(zirconxi @ May 20 2013, 11:46 PM) Hi, I m zirconxi the newbie here with a ER6F living in USJ Subang. Just got my bike less than 2 months and had ridden 4500kms. I had read in another forum about the ER6 valve problem that it snap if ridden too hard. Any sifu here can confirm this? Had been worried since read about the tppic. how hard? |

QUOTE(d_scientist @ May 21 2013, 01:42 PM) its old. But check the handlebars, check the front forks if there's any bending. check wheel bearings. tyres and all replaceable. check the sprockets and chain. Might want to invest in a bit of overhauling. Shouldnt cost that much. |

QUOTE(zirconxi @ May 21 2013, 08:57 AM) I rode with the RPM around 5k - 7k and every trip and there will be 1 or 2 sprint up to around 8k - 9k. Those guys that report they had snap the valve all claim they are cruising only around 5k - 7k rpm when it happen. Mileage around 32k -70k. That's why I am a bit worry now. When I went to read the US forum (Ninja650) and they have less of this kind of problem other than those that redlined the machine or overheated. hmm, i've been riding it for 3 years and around 4-7k rpm. But very rarely 8-9k. No problems so far but yes, its due for a valve clearance check apparently. Also, according to the service booklet you have to do it at 24,000km. Mine is currently at 40400 and will do it next week. But in the mean time, I'm not riding fast. 90-100 max. |

QUOTE(d_scientist @ Jun 11 2013, 02:48 PM) well.. jus need to find lor...I cant find one which is of good price. Fuel indicator none = bad thing? can i not add on? check this site first, its a list of the parts and service manuals for the ER6/Ninja 650 family. Maybe you can compare the 2008 model ones and a 2009 model see if the brackets and mounts are the same. Then you can search for the headlight.BTW... can i change the light lucifah? http://homepages.slingshot.co.nz/~shanetp/Index.html |

just updating on my recent findings.
So my ER6 reached 40,000 km in May. My usual service crew (Chea* Motor Klang) advised that I do an overhaul. But was told it would cost around RM 2000. (change coolant, change spark plugs, do valve clearance checks etc etc). Failure to do so runs the risk of broken valves etc etc. After doing some research, I found another shop Sri Gadin* Enterprise in Bukit Raja Klang (near I-City, Shah Alam) that also does similar services but for only RM 400-500. So early June, I brought my bike in and they found that an overhaul for my bike was not needed. But I did change the spark plugs and coolant which was ok with me. Now my bike is 40,700 km old and its possible I dont need to do an overhaul till 60,000 km. The normal symptoms are when metallic ticking sounds come out when the bike is idling. Even worse at higher speeds. But if the bike isnt pushed hard like mine, then its possible the valves will last for much longer. |

QUOTE(zirconxi @ Jun 21 2013, 01:45 AM) Just now when checking my bike, I found some yellowish liquid which look like oil on my bike cover, so i use my finger to touch and rub it...It felt a bit harsh and not so slippery, so i thought must be some oil leak or something, bent over look everywhere and can't find 1, so i use my nose to try and detect if it is engine oil, grease or brake oil....It turn out to be my neighbour cat urine....@#$@!#@!....anyway, just done washing the bike and the covers....look like the bike going to sleep without it's blanket tonight. What do you mean in the last sentence, why cannot sleep without blanket? |
