I was kinda avoiding tubes because I wonder if they sound like "distorted". And it's a totally different kind of amp to me, rendering me not knowing where to start. Maybe getting bravo or other cheaper alternatives will help. Tubes...Tubes...Heard they make audiophile recordings "shine"!

lets just put my last bulk into action, to let u know the influence of tube

i made a bulk, targeted to be only for 5 units, retail sold 1 or 2 units, and then the virus spread like "resident evil", and my bulk became a whooping 15 units, it even gave a stun to suppliers, cause they hardly manage to make 15 on a short notice, but they did, congrats on that. since then, i did not see any of the people who bought that amp selling it off, instead all are showing off~

it does match well with beyers, no doubt, even on the cheap ones like bravo, rule of thumb for tube sound is warm mid, which is what beyers are good at also, so it's a great match

only if you like warm mids. otherwise you'd find them to be colored with all sorts of shades.

its up to your individual taste. by colored in shades i mean that you won't achieve neutrality, transparency with tubes. not impossible to achieve though, with careful tube rolling and matching, you can still achieve neutrality.

main drawbacks of tubes: loss of PRaT, treble roll-off, lack of bass depth, loss of details and placement.

advantages: musicality, naturality, smoothness and lushness of sound.

i listen to everything with tubes, pop, rock, jazz, metal, orchestras etc etc. ultimately, its what kind of sound you are looking for.

If T1 pairs well with Tubes, I guess maybe T70 too? Tryin to find a "value" tube for my T70 as well. Tired of driving it straight out of Dacport LX.
*
I kindda liked T70. It drives easily with most of the amps. Maybe due to its lowered impedance compare to T1. Although T1 when drive well it will fly you up to the heavens, but investment is quite high too.

QUOTE(wilzc @ Jul 31 2012, 03:09 PM)
Dry isn't the word, but since the 160 is a no-nonsense amp and the T1 can easily be harsh and metallic, the burson makes the T1 very very harsh indeed.

I did try the T1s with a DNA Sonett and they were pretty much on par with the worlds top dynamic headphones with that combo.

The difference and synergy of amps sometimes can be a hair's breadth apart, and sometimes its due to psycho-acoustics, or even individual emotions.
*
I also have the same feeling with wilzc cool.gif . T1 is not easy to find a matching amp. With burson's powerful presentation, it just added the harshness. Try Fostex HP-A8 32bit DAC + amp. It drives quite beautifully just that I cant find enough gain that time.

Agreed, each person has their own preference. Tube and SS is a totally different world.

sorry but i must respectfully say that the HP-A8 is a much much better DAC than amp although the amp is Jaben KL is practically brand new and probably needs a couple of hundred hours to run in although i doubt it will sound like much.

hey guyss,

I'm looking for something very comfortable for long hours & sound quality is given the highest priority. I enjoy bass but not excessively bassy. I listen to a variety eg. kpop, english mostly ballads like Demi Lovato and Adele, Chinese songs. Do you think DT231pro is a suitable choice given my tight budget?

Thanks smile.gif

Yes, for long hours, not only the comfortable you have to factor in. You also need to factor in the soothing-ness of the music that it offers. Like some sort of 'peace of mind', no piercing highs, no overemphasis bass. DT231pro, yup it will satisfy you.
