I'm torn between AnyPlayerHD, TTPlayer, GoodPlayer, and AVPlayerHD. Which is the best app to view movie file with subtitle that can easily drag drop the file into itunes?

Btw, anybody tried yxplayer? Apparently can play any video file shared in the network without a need to open server. Is it true? Can it play directly from NAS without any computer on? Can it copy directly from the shared? Can it play subtitle and also keep video file to watch later like those 4 programs i said?

the problem with ipad and streaming is
when ure using h.264 high level profile.. like example at 4.1 pure bdrip from master source .. u will get spikes up to 50mbps bitrate... ure ipad max internet wifi speed is only at 60mbps at N.
with overhead etc..

can forget it. ipad 3 although it has a 1gb mem.. the cache buffering still the same as ipad 2.

btw when u have coded ure m4v properly from a good mkv source.. ( doesnt take that long..lord of the rings trilogy 56gb took only 30 mins) with subtitles and optimize the tagging etc...
its faster than mkv on loading etc.

try it.

ios default video? now that's a bad choice
didnt support a lot of type of video
the hell with converting
and no subtitle

yeah, i need to forget yxplayer. none server player like it, cant play high def h264 1020p or even 720p video. i better stick with airvideo for streaming which can do that smoothly. and now i got a new NAS with UPnP, it might work for ttplayer

yeah, i think goodplayer might be good but heard it have gesture that can't disabled. any thought, preducer?

Lol..
1.It supports subtitles, closed captioning,
2.U only have to change the audio as most mkv's vids are already in AVC.
3.It can player higher bitrates perfectly fine unlike ure third party players.
4.For those who meta tag.. its much nicer too look at. The problem is everybody has been conned by this third party converters etc.. It only takes a few minutes if u know which programs to do it with. Heck theres this one totally free that converts all multiple, metatags it even the whole series etc.

example of itunes with proper metatag (external) with ios video with subtitles. it will look like exactly like the movies u download from itunes store except u wont have some of the movie extra part.. if u want that can be done but u need to create a html pages.

Warning 1920x1200 etc

U tell me. I say worth it. All clean and organize in One file only. BTW in windows explorer u only see the coverarts at thumbnails for Mac OSX and windows if u didnt use VLC and only windows FFDSHOW codecs etc.. same.

So far nobody asked me how to do this .. I can post a tutorial or show u links if u like and how to fix files etc.
Theres some silly companies online that even charge ppl for this. When u can do it ureself pretty quickly.

BTW Dont be CONNED by third party apps etc that makes u pay to to do this.. Its all Free and much faster than their apps. Longest Movie here to Tag, Covert the MKV DTS to MP4 AAC was Lord of the rings cause the audio is was around 2-3gb. was 17 mins. For series etc only takes like 50 secs for a 720p 2gb file. 50 secs to reencode the audio, organize the streams, and lol it will also search online and tag ure file with the artwork and all the metainfo.

If you have the backend storage, the easiest method would be running a Plex Media Server, no hassle at all and all done automatically. Using the Plex app and myPlex you could stream easily (yes even on 3g). Everything can be transcoded on the fly or even direct stream.

Been there. Done that.

Tested on my Sysnology 410. Thats where my 4x1tbs are in. Read/Write around 60mbps over the Ethernet.

Has tones of issue on high level profile on h.264 streaming... very jaggy. Tested with the MKV's i had before i reencode it.

Same thing via itunes no issue on homesharing.

Both times new ipad at full bar.
again y Pay for something when u already have a inbuilt app that works better, faster etc. Just need some work to get it sorted.

btw ppl i am just telling u guys my experience.. tested all the players etc.. in the end for ios video is the best.

btw i just realize that on homesharing tv shows are organized by title name instead of episode id. Corrected with this program tag that did the whole 40 episodes. in 1 Min.

I suggest you revisit it, Plex is probably the best media server/organizer around today. Sorry to say its your hardware issue. Personally, I hate to re-encode and its a waste of time, we have the capabilities to do it on the fly. I am running PMS on my computer and grabbing from my Synology box without any issues. Everything is automatic with Sickbeard and Sabnzbd. I will leave it at that.

def not a hardware issue. It just depends how far u tested it.

not intending to waste time again after everything is already streamlined. again paying for something that i dont have to pay to achieve something. It will never stream and play in ipad as perfect as a m4v encoded the way apple wanted it to be.

again ure just reencoding the audio and changing the container and tagging it. One program. Does it all. The others is just to fix issues with ppl on different coding methods and correcting headlines on mkv's or srt's. If not its just a matter of mins for movies at 1080p at 10mbps bit rate with average time length and mainly secs for tv shows on 720p

I doubt it will stream 1080p at high profile 4.1 that has been encoded from a bd or master copy perfectly at all. Tested and wasted so much time and dough with so many solutions. All of them has issues with it. only seems to be ok with 3.1. So suspect cant handle high bitrate spikes which is common. How high .. ive seen close to 40-50's at the liimit.

personally i can see y apple mp4's are better than mkvs. They are more cleaner. Check the hex coding for the handlers. Mp4's are cleaner. No need images like matroska.

Most ppl issues are with the DTS coding of the audio. not the container. I've encoded mine with AAC stereo/multichannel or Dolby ProLogic II with no issue.

i agree with your comment, if it aint broke don't fix it.... hehe

i believe i am just as buff of a media enthusiast like yourself, if quality is bad, forget it. so that tells you how far i would have tested it.

i had a 410 before its too slow for a NAS. When you unrar within the box everything comes to a grinding halt. Granted a hobby like this aint cheap with all the equipment/software you need to purchase.

even tried Plexbmc on RPi (probably cheapest media player you can find) definitely more interesting than ATV2.

sorry i am such a Plex freak but love sharing that idea to people coz its just amazing.

Agreed. I tested it.
As for the Nas 410.. thinking of changing it but seriously whats the point. All of them are too freaking slow and the fast ones are costing a ton... but 60mb write/read so far still above the average i have seen.

Hence y on my new build hehehe.. All coming from my computer direct. Its faster on the gigabit switch hitting 100mb/s easy. Still waiting for the watercooling parts for that.

apple tv.. totally sux. Its not even a media player.
HTPC is def the way to go. No audio, firmware nonense. With all the new 3rd gen proccessors running at multiple low states and so cool the touch.. y bother.

like i say, aint cheap but once you have invested is awesome what synology box can do. team both the nic ports and you can get close to 200mb/s that is super fast when you transfer files... hehe

i beg to differ, put Plex in ATV, it rocks any HTPC. small footprint and does wonders, wish they get Plex installable without the need for JB on ATV. ATV2 only 720p sad.gif. its already available on Appstore. MyPlex is genius for noobs, best idea they have came up with.

i am actually considering trying out on to do list during the weekends.

200mb/s that aint possible over a NAS unless u have a 10gigbit switch or running dual lan mux on ure computer. max therotically is at 125mb/s. Or are u misquoting at mbps. Cause i am talking about mb/s. Just to clarify here. Also afaik ATV2 is running at 100mbps max on network.

from what i can see min requirement for good streaming is close to 50mb/s. This is because of overheads and caching and buffering. Although the mp4/mkvs bitrates are all around 10-15mb/s with spikes but because it needs to buffer and cache u need more. The problem with all this media solutions. They have too little MEM. 512 to 1gb?? common..
The Ipad i reckon caches around 300mb of video. Thats ok for a 720p. but for a 1080p high bit rate better if it can do it at 1gb for smooth play. and also its better if it does at the ram. Avidemux is one of my fav's. Not the software i use most but i kindda like it. Reason is it caches ure mem. Trust me 2133 C7 8gb.. is plenty fast.

Y htpc. U spend one time. It will still outbeat the rest and last longer, and totally not dependent on firmware updates etc.

as for synology.. lol been down that marvel road.. get some highpoint rocket raid cards lol. U will show ure middle finger to NAS. Again its back to the problem of the switch and lan ports. so back to the 1gbps limit to be more cost effective and multi compataible.

http://www.synology.com/products/performan...ang=enu#tabs-10. check out the 5-12 bay nas section, can be done, i have setup before unfortunately i don't have a link aggregated switch to support it here to show you a screenshot.

and i agree in terms of good streaming, i can't push more than what unifi offers now for remote streaming to get good 1080p playback. 720p is fine.

htpc is good for "somewhat technically incline" person aka CONEHEAD... hahaha, not for our parents or newbies. if something happens then what. do u like to be remote support? hence ATV was built to be idiot proof. if cannot work off/on. don't you agree?

hmm interesting

nah its same as using a load balancer. same like when u use multiple unifi accounts etc. Samething thing. Must be using vlan ports.
curious part is they must connect to two ports on ure computer. Wonder how will this task the computer cpu.

but think u hit the spot on this issue lol.. I am going to try this. From my main rig to my streaming pc.
so far max i can do 102mb via a switch. Never thought of doing it this way or never knew i could.

if something "c*ck ups" with your raid, will they remote in and troubleshoot? Believe me raid is no fun when it crashes for whatever reason. synology team actually ssh or team viewer with you to fix your problem. this is based on personal experience, thumbup.gif to their support. furthermore i believe they are "greener" in terms of power consumption.. i guess all this comes at a price.

Download 2.99 for test
uploading
Man on a ledge mkv 10 sub video bitrate at 16.8mbps with audio at 1.5mbps 6 channel dts with chapters ( since everybody say dont waste time encoding this part)
got a the same
m4v at same bit rate with audio at aac 320 VBR 2 channel 10 sub with chapters. Ipad video chews this for breakfast. Heck it had no problem with a bd rip at 30mbps average with max still at 50mbps for 4.1 spec

Added on July 10, 2012, 3:02 pmFirst Issue never had this problem with itunes sync..
Transfering file at 4gb stopped. Some error saying not connected. But can sync.

so to be clear that nothing running in background
run iwipecache with iclean.. total mem free 700mb

Limitations
1. DRm protected content.. eh this is a big thing
2. PGS subtitles not supported.. Half of mkv's out there are using PGS since its a bd native.

nvrmind 4.99 kaching.. up for the test.

plex media center is the player. media server does the scrapping and all the good stuff. the account creation is for myplex, a lot has been discussed about this over their forums, you don't like it don't use it. but they assured nothing is passed to their servers. like bank lor, u don't like put your money somewhere else.

hmm think gonna keep this program.. can see how its useful.
very fast on searching and tagging and sorting..

but again this is only for media sharing

itunes 720p streaming to plex.. smooth. no captioning support on m4v

again np with hardware. theres actually nothing better than what i have lol.. unless its a gold plated cat 6 cable.

it doesnt work like that when u say encoding on 20mbps. if plex reduces those bitrates at limits it at 20.. thats gonna be a problem. u use high profile 4.1 to get better compression with better quality hence the vbr

when it says 20mbps it means the bandwidth. it uses 20mbps on the max spikes
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC

thats y it was smooth on my 720p at h3.1
when they encode a 1080p at 4.1 although ure average is a 16 ++ mbps example on the movie just now
it uses more on high detail enviroments.. so it has a max of 50mbps.
thats what i have been saying all this players has issue with 4.1. heck even quicktime pro. while IOS default video eats it easily.. Androids until today has issues with tegra 3

keeping this for as i download to watch series and delete etc..
pretty niffy

Wow.. you all really push your ipad to the limit by loading so huge file...  laugh.gif
I'm using New Ipad 3 to play 1080p MKV about 6GB of file size, it is very smooth, and it won't crash. Please isolate the wireless bandwidth issue if it is the root causes...

And it is the best player for RMVB as well.. with very high quality pictures rendering and very smooth up to 1.2GB of RMVB file size which i've tested...

BTW... i'm not selling this software smile.gif just to share only...
*
this is still basic
ipad ios video app can handle even bigger. ive gone up to 30mbps around 50gb just one movie just to test the limits
it just chewed it.

so when apple advertises 30fps level 4.1 they really mean it.

Disclaimer on my part for Time Given

Yeah need to really write it down. Cause there is actually more like setting dual audio one in AAC stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1.

That makes it a complete like itunes like movie. Only difference is u have a higher quality in picture.

Tested.. New ipad Streaming from Homesharing with AV kit to tv.. Dolby Digital 5.1 supported.
Hence makes Apple TV sux all time since its limited with high profile 4.0

But doesnt look like lyn folks here really want to do it lol. A thread with no followers after so much work to write and explain etc.. hmm again need more feedback.

Not sure if I can help, but right now I am using my htpc to serve as Air Playit server, and my iphone 3GS can use the Air Playit app to play any full HD video smoothly, not to mention all the audio files too.

Trick is I need to keep the HTPC on to use it. Actually I am not sure if I have talked about the same thing.

still that need converting and so on
what the 3rd party is the convenience to allow you is to play any kind of video, with any kind of subtitle, just drag in via itune, no need sync, no need converting, no need changing file type, no need a lot of step just to see it in itune with the picture synopsis and so on, especially with video that you're sure not going to keep it in your ipad after you finish watching it, not when your ipad only 64gb or even less

thats cause depends on the quality ure watching.

all my encodes plays now on my appletv flawlessly and homesharing on mutiple pc's and ipad.also streaming from my media computer. also no issue with airplay. Hence moral of story. Do the work in the beginning , Reap the benefits for the future. No issues with any apple devices. Theres no excuse that u have when ppl come to ure place and want to download ure movies or stream etc from u .. with excuses like oh u need a third party app etc etc.

so lol.. all this third app does is limit u with poor quality videos.

btw again on coverting.. its encoding not converting. most vids out there are in mkv already. the video codec is the same. Y apple mp4 is more advance cause its made for streaming and the coding on the metatag etc all is optimized for streaming. Y u think quicktime is very popular with online streaming sites. Anybody can tell u sites with quicktime are faster in streaming with higher quality compared to flash based flv.f4v( this is exactly same as mp4 except different container)

Added on August 7, 2012, 10:20 amhere is a example of my movie's collection at my computer. NAS has a bigger collection but way older stuff and more on tv shows

All with cover, metatag, subs, multi audio ( AAC dual and DD for 5.1)

windows native without any codec etc. Heck even windows media player plays this flawlessly without the need for extra codecs. So when ppl take my stuff. No issues other than the subs which can only be used by itunes. ( Because of the handler tag)

Warning 1920x1200..

Clean look with no multiple files for one movie. Its optimized and loads fast. Streams fast. Apple quicktime format is awesome. Its fast on buffering from homesharing to apple tv and also for ipad airplay.

Hence again advocate on just changing the container and re encoding. Long run saves a lot of time.

so need to convert/encode/whatever it is, for each video? and then delete the original file? i dont want that. i dont want 2 copies of similar movie either.

and i find it hard to believe u can convert/encode/whatever 56gb mkv under 30min. unless u use high end pc, which i dont have.

Seems like a lot of ppl misinformed

lets get into some jargons first. AVI, MKV,MP4,M4V,MOV,FLV,F4V etc..

for windows terms its called file extensions. In video/audio we call them containers. Containers is like a arrangement or format etc. Same concept.. doc.. docx..txt..etc. if u look at them in hex. u will find what u type. but u will find other arrangement, font settings etc for certain program to transcode it to a form of display u want.

so ok lets talk about h.264 video codec. Y cause its the most encoded format. All blueray runs a h.264 compression. so it is quite native. the question is just the baseline , high profile etc. All this is to reduce the file size to maintain some amount of high quality.

its so widely supported than even cctv DVR's, Online streaming sites etc all use it.

ok and which is the most popular codec for h.264 is mpeg-4 level 10 called AVC. Advance Video Codec. It has many options like cabac, b frame, etc etc to inrease the quality and maintaining low size.

ok so which encodes we should download. Of course the most popular and normally its the first encode. MKV's.
As i said all the DVR's are using h.264 also nowadays. When u see series etc. It comes into MKV first. and then only AVI container.

MKV has a lot of benefits. So does M4V. Only con i can find so far with M4V container is
MKV supports multi audio like TRUEhd, DTS, Dolby Digital, MP3,AAC
M4V supports only AAC, Dolby Digital.

M4V is Apple patent tech. Ok y only those two audio's. Cause its fast and easy for streaming. So they are looking beyond just watching it on a ipad or apple tv.

so in a mkv. Video is AVC. ( So just copy it)
Audio is normall DTS,TrueHD or Dolby Digital (AC-3). ( btw most series are in either DTS or AC-3 Dolby Digital. Just have to make it to AC-3 Passthrough)
So u just need to reencode this.

Also another con m4v. MKV afaik supports High-10p h.264. Quality on this is excellent and smaller size. This should be standard soon as its becoming more and more popular.Currently mainly used in animes. m4v has issues with playback on this but thats more of a hardware or quicktime software limitation.

So on a 50gb rip a dts audio or truehd for example is around 5k bitrate only.
a norm 10gb rip is around 1536bit on dts.
Thats y it doenst take that long. Y some computers are slow. Cause of the HDD speed. Say a Western Digital Black. It read and writes say 120mb/s. for a 10gb file to take out the video codec and then put back say 8gb on that..takes about 2 min 30 sec. Say on a raid ssd sata 3 setup. Thats just like 16secs. So most of the time transfering files to native formats etc and then putting back all the codec together into the m4v container is the one that takes most of the time.

whats the different with mp4 and m4v. m4v can support second level metatag, multi audio, multi subs, chapters
Again remember it just a container. A way of arrangement and coding for a software to read.

btw for subs. its damn stupid. Apple prevents most norm encode by just changing the hex handler for subs to sbtl. Only then it can read it. No idea y they did this. Maybe trying to be different. If they didnt. Most would find it damn easy to install subs

Oh yeah another con. mkv supports multi format subs. M4v only supports GPAC. for those who know subs. Basic of all subs is the srt format. The other formats has higher support etc like fonts , color etc. GPAC is like a XML format of srt which just tells the position etc on the video. Y this is a big con. BD's rips are normally in PGS.

try the easiest of them all. Avidemux. Just set video to copy ,Audio to AAC-aften choose stereo. and choose container mp4. try a mkv file. See how fast that takes.

Added on August 10, 2012, 12:08 am After reading this Please Show ure middle finger to all the paid apps who says need to reencode nonsense

btw hence y handbrake is mainly primary for dvd encodes only.
y again cause dvd's are not h.264 native and is limited by 480p. When u change it to a advance codec like h.264 compression u can get near dvd quality at 1/8th the dvd file size. or even divx which also is a mpeg-4 but again not as advance as a h.264 on compression tech. so thats y most dvdrips are in avi container using divx or xvid codec.

if u guys start doing this. U will realize how fast m4v is and how great the ipad video player is. Its damn good and plays damn high quality AVC that most androids has a lot of issues with.

yeah that's the problem. container aside, i have thousands of video i want to upload in my ipad that is either xvid or divx. less on x264. even ogm and rmvb sometimes more than x264. what, i'm out of date? i figured that flv no problem right? but what of this others? convert? no thanks. it doesnt matter how many times you upload image to show how nice looking it is in itunes

cstkl1,

I want to jump to the wagon where you're at now. I'd appreciate if you could point me at the right direction on how to achieve that.. My video library is somehow outside of itunes and i want to put them into itunes like how I did with my music (complete with album art and metatags) .

I'd appreciate it if you could show me how you achieve what you have in the least amount of time. I was under the impression of 'converting' the avi files that I currently have right now takes A LOT of time hence I gave up and stick to avi with srt subtitle files.

Awaiting your reply. Thank you !

i have read a little about what the other guy babbling about. apparently it only work for mkv with AAC/AC3. the method is called remuxing which is a lot faster than convert becoz it is basically just a copy method to another format.

so conclusion, i think easier to just use third party apps for ipad. is not like we want to share it over apple tv like he said. lulz

ogm, xvid, divx. there all poor copy's. ok for first gen ipad i guess.

flv no issue. norm on flv is AVC on video and AAC on audio. so just container. F4V which is the higher version is a high profile h.264 AVC on video.

rmvb is like super poor copy. Seriously not worth anybody's time. ogm is actually same as norm avi. only diff is this container can support multi audio and subtitles. The prob is this container is seriously badly optimized and hence takes up some decoding power of ure cpu, gc and very bad for streaming.

The reason y i said conform to itunes. Its either today for apple tv or something else in the future. Doing it now will enjoy total benefits of itunes. Apple will keep developing it for multi platform, devices etc.

Keeping ure divx avi etc. Ure always conformed to using lesser degree of ure devices.

btw so u the reason y i havent posted a guide is cause
1. Just pointing out a program is not enough.
2. PPl need to understand codecs and how things work.
3. Ppl need to understand on how ppl encode. It might be the same thing but things like header compression etc all , u have to do it another way.
4. Hence y i've been keeping a open channel hoping ppl to ask me questions.

was adviced by few ppl who did this programs not to post a guide but give a hint. Most of the programs i used i actually talked to the owners.

btw i have given so many hints and info for ppl to actually start googling and getting the answers.

The prob with third party apps. Ure actually downloading poor copys of movies for it to work. 3rd party apps cannot utilize the full potential of ipad. Ure also in a way totally dependent on Jailbreak solutions and hence IOS 6.0 u guys can forget it. For me. no diff. It will always work.

i have read a little about what the other guy babbling about. apparently it only work for mkv with AAC/AC3. the method is called remuxing which is a lot faster than convert becoz it is basically just a copy method to another format.

so conclusion, i think easier to just use third party apps for ipad. is not like we want to share it over apple tv like he said. lulz

babbling. more like educating.

remuxing is rearranging to a different container. Reason y i didnt use this is because most mkv's for movies are in DTS, TrueHD. U need to reencode the audio. U are only going to mux the video. The subs has to be in GPAC.
So uve been educated.

AC3 has to be AC3 pass through. AAC has to be in stereo only. Theres some arguments about using dolby prologic II on AAC but i find it will always be out of sync on stereo playback. Its better to also use SOX when re encoding the audio.

I received a free Kingston Wi-Drive 64GB recently. I moved all my iPad movies to it and works great except no audio for MP4 files. Need to convert many of my HD movies to M4V using iPad profile via Handbrake. Quality is excellent. Now my iPad have extra 5GB for other stuff like music or games.

Handbrake reencodes the video. Ure actually losing quality.
Its like this those ppl in mkv check the source. Norm is the encode a blue ray. Y its biggervize than say apple itunes. Cause apple itunes encodes are from a master copy from the publishing house.

So dont get a reencode of a encode for video..

Handbrake was first written and gets more support for mac os. Its actually good for ripping dvds into m4v

Kingston wii drive uses the inbuilt quicktime player that ipad natively uses in its video.

Actually, the quality is good enough even for new iPad high res screen. Even if u connect to a 720P TV, still ok. I only want capacity (put as many movies I like rather than quality). Still better than watching AVI or RMVB files on iPad.

fair enough. Although if thats the case would just get a 720p version of mkv's for ure vids.

Doing a project now.
For Raid Redemption 1080p. Theres no mkv rips that has dual audio with english subs. Instead of reencoding a 50gb bdrip.

Took legion copy. He has two one mkv with english audio, the other with indonesian with subs in english. He is also using header stripping on audio. Extracting each of the audio from both mkv's ( video size for both is the same) and resyncing it.

Think i am the first to have The Raid redemption i 4 audio streams ( 2 language in stereo/surround) with dual sub english and indonesian

and i find it hard to believe u can convert/encode/whatever 56gb mkv under 30min. unless u use high end pc, which i dont have.

would like to thx cstkl1 for all the info, well did clear up some of my doubts on this thing recently trying to make thing nicer in organization.

as for the re-encoding, like what cstkl1 its actually quite fast. of course if you had what he has then its blazing fast.
i'm running 2.4 c2s penryn and 4gb ram and is revise a 720 mkv (snow white and huntmans) into m4v within minutes, cant remember at what quality though.

with this using airplay everything is quite easy to view even for my parents to operate the ATV. as for me which is not inclide, i just batch it through encoder and its done with auto sending it into itunes while i sleep

AVHD Player plays everything. I personally have a lot of H264 videos of various containers. Apart from that, I also tried 1080i MPEG2 streams. No problem as well. I'd like if if they deinterlace properly to 60fps though. Still, just nitpicks.

righton. Its tough in the beginning but when u get the hang of it. Lol its a wonder. No more finding apps for ure videos to work. Other than vlc think theres no player that plays everything. No such thing. Ppl encode differently all the time.

totally doubt it even can play a 1080p file smoothly so forget ure 60fps. Afaik its natively support only 30fps interlaced. .btw Hardware decoding on ipad is only supported by native quicktime file so lol all third party sux.

Happy lagging ppl or enjoy sub par quality videos on ure ipad. Some ppl just loves poor quality.

if its deinterlacing to 60fps encoding. Well never tried it yet.

btw hmm just on discussion part wouldnt a 60fps Progressive double ure bitrate if u try to maintain the same quality??
and that would nearly double ure vid size.

since i have around 4 TB worth of xvid/divx/mpeg/ogm compare to x264
my only choice is 3rd party app, still, true that none of the 3rd app movie player really stand out as perfect, and marred with apple's restriction preventing these app from fully utilizing the hardware.
but if those 3rd party app user interface and function are as primitive as ios video player, then it really is the bad choice, may as well never have them

i think its better that i be specific at the start of this topic.. sigh..
what i want to know is the best 3rd party app movie player.
with ios video player excluded of course: (or this will go on and on and on
and my topic didnt reach conclusion I wanted)
- can handle dual audio. easy switch over without need to pause/stop
- can handle any subs be in txt. sst. srt. sub. and so on, in-file sub like in mkv/ogm, change subs styling, placement and size
- allow folder'ing and changing filename (i'm talking on ipad)
- allow any kind of containers and any kind of codecs without any converting or remuxing or whatever
- wireless transfer
- in-app orientation lock (without need to swipe up to multitask bar)
- playlisting with rpt one, all, random and so on
- seek gesture that easy to turn off or can override the notification center (yeah, its so bad that most seek bar is on top while you need to slide down for fine seek, the stupid notification center pop down instead)
- doesnt pause if you accidentally tap on the video (or at least make a hold button)

Very intrigued with what cstkl1 has achieved. Im not a technical person and have some problems trying to understand certain jargons but I may have some idea on what cstkl1 trying to convey. Will try with Avidemux. Would be very nice if a guide can be posted as Im sure a lot of ppl are interested. Of course questions definitely will be asked but I guess this is what the forum is for right?
What I can understand is that if you have downloaded 1080p movies likely it will be in mkv container with video encoded with AVC while supporting various formats for audio. And the aim is to convert to iTunes-friendly m4v. And to do that no need to change the video encode (if it is AVC) but need to change audio as m4v supports AAC and AC3 only. Am I right so far? So I will try to do that with Avidemux (Or is there any other better option?)
Will update later (with questions definitely).

Voila! Did a conversion with avidemux. Great! Appeared in my iTunes. Now my problems

1) As quoted above how to get stereo (AAC) and surround (AC3) together? Resyncing? How the hell u do that?
2) And how to get subtitle in? Closed caption preferred. Saw somewhere recommending mp4box.

Once I get these 2 questions answered, Im sorted! biggrin.gif
