thats cause depends on the quality ure watching.

all my encodes plays now on my appletv flawlessly and homesharing on mutiple pc's and ipad.also streaming from my media computer. also no issue with airplay. Hence moral of story. Do the work in the beginning , Reap the benefits for the future. No issues with any apple devices. Theres no excuse that u have when ppl come to ure place and want to download ure movies or stream etc from u .. with excuses like oh u need a third party app etc etc.

so lol.. all this third app does is limit u with poor quality videos.

btw again on coverting.. its encoding not converting. most vids out there are in mkv already. the video codec is the same. Y apple mp4 is more advance cause its made for streaming and the coding on the metatag etc all is optimized for streaming. Y u think quicktime is very popular with online streaming sites. Anybody can tell u sites with quicktime are faster in streaming with higher quality compared to flash based flv.f4v( this is exactly same as mp4 except different container)

All with cover, metatag, subs, multi audio ( AAC dual and DD for 5.1)

windows native without any codec etc. Heck even windows media player plays this flawlessly without the need for extra codecs. So when ppl take my stuff. No issues other than the subs which can only be used by itunes. ( Because of the handler tag)

Warning 1920x1200..

Clean look with no multiple files for one movie. Its optimized and loads fast. Streams fast. Apple quicktime format is awesome. Its fast on buffering from homesharing to apple tv and also for ipad airplay.

Hence again advocate on just changing the container and re encoding. Long run saves a lot of time.

Seems like a lot of ppl misinformed

lets get into some jargons first. AVI, MKV,MP4,M4V,MOV,FLV,F4V etc..

for windows terms its called file extensions. In video/audio we call them containers. Containers is like a arrangement or format etc. Same concept.. doc.. docx..txt..etc. if u look at them in hex. u will find what u type. but u will find other arrangement, font settings etc for certain program to transcode it to a form of display u want.

so ok lets talk about h.264 video codec. Y cause its the most encoded format. All blueray runs a h.264 compression. so it is quite native. the question is just the baseline , high profile etc. All this is to reduce the file size to maintain some amount of high quality.

its so widely supported than even cctv DVR's, Online streaming sites etc all use it.

ok and which is the most popular codec for h.264 is mpeg-4 level 10 called AVC. Advance Video Codec. It has many options like cabac, b frame, etc etc to inrease the quality and maintaining low size.

ok so which encodes we should download. Of course the most popular and normally its the first encode. MKV's.
As i said all the DVR's are using h.264 also nowadays. When u see series etc. It comes into MKV first. and then only AVI container.

MKV has a lot of benefits. So does M4V. Only con i can find so far with M4V container is
MKV supports multi audio like TRUEhd, DTS, Dolby Digital, MP3,AAC
M4V supports only AAC, Dolby Digital.

M4V is Apple patent tech. Ok y only those two audio's. Cause its fast and easy for streaming. So they are looking beyond just watching it on a ipad or apple tv.

so in a mkv. Video is AVC. ( So just copy it)
Audio is normall DTS,TrueHD or Dolby Digital (AC-3). ( btw most series are in either DTS or AC-3 Dolby Digital. Just have to make it to AC-3 Passthrough)
So u just need to reencode this.

Also another con m4v. MKV afaik supports High-10p h.264. Quality on this is excellent and smaller size. This should be standard soon as its becoming more and more popular.Currently mainly used in animes. m4v has issues with playback on this but thats more of a hardware or quicktime software limitation.

So on a 50gb rip a dts audio or truehd for example is around 5k bitrate only.
a norm 10gb rip is around 1536bit on dts.
Thats y it doenst take that long. Y some computers are slow. Cause of the HDD speed. Say a Western Digital Black. It read and writes say 120mb/s. for a 10gb file to take out the video codec and then put back say 8gb on that..takes about 2 min 30 sec. Say on a raid ssd sata 3 setup. Thats just like 16secs. So most of the time transfering files to native formats etc and then putting back all the codec together into the m4v container is the one that takes most of the time.

whats the different with mp4 and m4v. m4v can support second level metatag, multi audio, multi subs,chapters
Again remember it just a container. A way of arrangement and coding for a software to read.

btw for subs. its damn stupid. Apple prevents most norm encode by just changing the hex handler for subs to sbtl. Only then it can read it. No idea y they did this. Maybe trying to be different. If they didnt. Most would find it damn easy to install subs

Oh yeah another con. mkv supports multi format subs. M4v only supports GPAC. for those who know subs. Basic of all subs is the srt format. The other formats has higher support etc like fonts , color etc. GPAC is like a XML format of srt which just tells the position etc on the video. Y this is a big con. BD's rips are normally in PGS.

try the easiest of them all. Avidemux. Just set video to copy ,Audio to AAC-aften choose stereo. and choose container mp4. try a mkv file. See how fast that takes.

btw hence y handbrake is mainly primary for dvd encodes only.
y again cause dvd's are not h.264 native and is limited by 480p. When u change it to a advance codec like h.264 compression u can get near dvd quality at 1/8th the dvd file size. or even divx which also is a mpeg-4 but again not as advance as a h.264 on compression tech. so thats y most dvdrips are in avi container using divx or xvid codec.

if u guys start doing this. U will realize how fast m4v is and how great the ipad video player is. Its damn good and plays damn high quality AVC that most androids has a lot of issues with.

ogm, xvid, divx. there all poor copy's. ok for first gen ipad i guess.

flv no issue. norm on flv is AVC on video and AAC on audio. so just container. F4V which is the higher version is a high profile h.264 AVC on video.

rmvb is like super poor copy. Seriously not worth anybody's time. ogm is actually same as norm avi. only diff is this container can support multi audio and subtitles. The prob is this container is seriously badly optimized and hence takes up some decoding power of ure cpu, gc and very bad for streaming.

The reason y i said conform to itunes. Its either today for apple tv or something else in the future. Doing it now will enjoy total benefits of itunes. Apple will keep developing it for multi platform,devices etc.

Keeping ure divx avi etc. Ure always conformed to using lesser degree of ure devices.

btw so u the reason y i havent posted a guide is cause
1. Just pointing out a program is not enough.
2. PPl need to understand codecs and how things work.
3. Ppl need to understand on how ppl encode. It might be the same thing but things like header compression etc all , u have to do it another way.
4. Hence y i've been keeping a open channel hoping ppl to ask me questions.

was adviced by few ppl who did this programs not to post a guide but give a hint. Most of the programs i used i actually talked to the owners.

btw i have given so many hints and info for ppl to actually start googling and getting the answers.

The prob with third party apps. Ure actually downloading poor copys of movies for it to work. 3rd party apps cannot utilize the full potential of ipad. Ure also in a way totally dependent on Jailbreak solutions and hence IOS 6.0 u guys can forget it. For me. no diff. It will always work.

remuxing is rearranging to a different container. Reason y i didnt use this is because most mkv's for movies are in DTS, TrueHD. U need to reencode the audio. U are only going to mux the video. The subs has to be in GPAC.
So uve been educated.

AC3 has to be AC3 pass through. AAC has to be in stereo only. Theres some arguments about using dolby prologic II on AAC but i find it will always be out of sync on stereo playback. Its better to also use SOX when re encoding the audio.

Handbrake reencodes the video. Ure actually losing quality.
Its like this those ppl in mkv check the source. Norm is the encode a blue ray. Y its biggervize than say apple itunes. Cause apple itunes encodes are from a master copy from the publishing house.

So dont get a reencode of a encode for video..

Handbrake was first written and gets more support for mac os. Its actually good for ripping dvds into m4v

Kingston wii drive uses the inbuilt quicktime player that ipad natively uses in its video.

Doing a project now.
For Raid Redemption 1080p. Theres no mkv rips that has dual audio with english subs. Instead of reencoding a 50gb bdrip.

Took legion copy. He has two one mkv with english audio, the other with indonesian with subs in english. He is also using header stripping on audio. Extracting each of the audio from both mkv's ( video size for both is the same) and resyncing it.

Think i am the first to have The Raid redemption i 4 audio streams ( 2 language in stereo/surround) with dual sub english and indonesian

righton. Its tough in the beginning but when u get the hang of it. Lol its a wonder. No more finding apps for ure videos to work. Other than vlc think theres no player that plays everything. No such thing. Ppl encode differently all the time.

totally doubt it even can play a 1080p file smoothly so forget ure 60fps. Afaik its natively support only 30fps interlaced. .btw Hardware decoding on ipad is only supported by native quicktime file so lol all third party sux.

Happy lagging ppl or enjoy sub par quality videos on ure ipad. Some ppl just loves poor quality.

if its deinterlacing to 60fps encoding. Well never tried it yet.

btw hmm just on discussion part wouldnt a 60fps Progressive double ure bitrate if u try to maintain the same quality??
and that would nearly double ure vid size.
