i need to link my cctv dvr to internet, for remote viewing , and staff management.

my shop here is at a location where telekom cant install land line for streamyx.
even if we apply with telekom, they say they wan charge MYR5000 per business lot for a line.
they said developer no pay capital contribution bla bla bla, so we user need to pay.
a simple phone line also need 5000, how to do business? how to maju negara like this?

however, we have full celcom maxis digi 3.5G signal.
i have asked a few local cctv guy here that, is it possible to link the cctv to any of the broadband connection, for remote viewing, they all say , "no public ip", "no open port", "Cant"

really no way, with the celcom/digi/maxis/?? broadband?

Dun need static IP.

Get a DynDNS service. Couple with 3G router that supports DynDNS and you should be good to go. Only catch is the CCTV port must be reachable over internet (the NAT part). Which I think most telco ISP allow (If can torrent through line, then CCTV should be also okay).

My advice tho, is to consider postpaid instead. Prepaid charge by per 10 KB and will totally cut you off once no more money. Postpaid won't (worse that happen is slow-down). Also, consider WiMAX instead of HSDPA, lower latency.

It's not about static IP. It's about private IP. Imagine setting up a CCTV for remote viewing without access to router for port forwarding. That's the problem with private IP.

If you want a public ip from maxis, they'll tell you that it's p2p and unsupported unless you use their CCTV system.

An option for you is YTL Yes. They still give public IP's. You will need to buy the zoom tho.

Get a 3G capable modem/router and setup free DNS (e.g No-IP) and you are good to go

best if you find camera that require no setup at all (no need to configure port forward etc, just plug n play)

Get a good 3G modem(Huawei E367) and a good 3G router (TP-LINK MR3420)

You need to apply for a Public IP from Maxis, It was FOC

Then, port forwarding everything as usual as you did for Streamyx

As for the static/dynamic IP stuff, you can just setup Dynamic IP DNS from No-ip since Dyndns is paid service now

Get the Digi Prepaid 3G Broadband. It provide public IPs for CCTV port forwarding.

I called Maxis today and they told me that if I installed the Maxis Home Wireless Broadband and connect to the IP Camera via the public IP which they will provide, we still cannot connect to it using Maxis Mobile phone !!!

Anyone has any experience on this?

i personally use both Yes 4G and Maxis 3G (public IP activated) to host my CCTV (i'd call it IP Camera instead) at home. Why do I use 2 providers? 'cause Maxis connection is unreliable at times and I will use Yes 4G when that happens.

Maxis is claiming that with their public IPs, you shouldn't be able to access it remotely using another Maxis connection (Maxis Fibre, Maxis 3G, Maxis Wireless Broadband, etc). But you can access it when using other service providers. This is just a matter of routing structure configured at their end.

However, recently, I'm having issues where it is the reverse. I can't use other service providers to access the IP Camera hosted using Maxis connection. I can use another Maxis connection with public IP activated to access it. This is obviously their routing is messed up. Already opened a case with them but it's almost a month now and they haven't fix it yet.

So, for now, I'd recommend to use Yes 4G with the Zoom Gateway. I understand that Yes 4G is quite expensive compared to other service providers. I'm using the 1Malaysia Value Pack that comes with 1GB/month and it's more than enough for hosting IP Camera because I don't watch them all the time using my phone/computer.

Thank you Max for your explanation. It is very helpful. So looks like Maxis is quite unreliable for now. Will explore YES. My only concern is the coverage of its network.

I have tried 3G at my area using my mobile and the reception is full bar which is why I was considering Maxis.
Not sure about YES though. I am sure the agent will tell me good coverage but how do we confirm before committing?

For Yes 4G, it's best if you can test it out personally at your area. Either borrow from someone or pay for it. you can easily get a used Yes Go dongle and buy a prepaid ID to test it out. Check out the sales thread!

I manage to go over to YES shop and they loan me a zoom test unit (deposit RM400).
Tested it out and got a full bar reception at my area.
So...returned and registered.
Will have to try out my AVTech IP Push Video Camera now and see how it works.

Another thing to ponder is Maxis actually gives pretty shitty upload QOS for external IP..

for yes zoom modem. what dynamic DNS they provide by default. looking for those modem that provide free dynamic DNS access.
