Thank you. I assume N1 is the lowest level?
*
N5 is the lowest n1 is the highest.

Most aim for n2 as that's the minimum needed for applying jobs.

N5 to N3 are levels for self evaluations.

I haven't took n1 yet, not sure how is it like. But the numbers of candidates at KL test session are often below 100. While n5 has 200 to 300.

Then I think N5 would be most suitable for me now, as I'm only beginning Japanese 😅

The higher level you go the more challenging it is. If you're hardworking enough, you can finish off N5 and N4 within a year. N3 will take awhile and so does N2 and N1 for sure.

Does anyone know where to find (websites, places, etc) 2nd hand books (for learning Japanese)? The ones from Kinokuniya are usually expensive.

Yes possible I'm an example. Got my N1, started hiragana at 2019, 2022 got my N1.

N5 and N4 info are basically free all over internet.

I suggest you look at this Taiwanese teacher
https://youtube.com/@deguchi

At N3 he starts teaching purely in Japanese. He has all the collection of grammar At each level

If you are into minna no Nihon go, he has a full video for each chapter as well.

For English speakers, her channel is the best following flow of minna no Nihongo books

In case you needed motivation to study Japanese
Simply having N1 can give you a 7-9k Salary.
N2 can get you 5-8k salary

This is without engineering/law/medical degree
Imagine if you have academic qualifications + japanese speaking ability 🤑🤑🤑

My only concern if you're really like the rest of the N1ers that I know, who for some reason, not only refuse to speak any Japanese, but could not speak even a lick of Japanese when asked to.

Ahh you again. The pretentious Japanese learner.

You know in the Japanese learning community we have kind of learners we absolutely abhore? They behave like they know everything in advance and never even go pass N3?

When they join the language class they try so speak like some anime characters and think they are the coolest kid.

Before you criticized others learning method and other learning capabilities, may I ask which level are you at?

Also, you met a random person just because he dosent speak Japanese you started judging everyone is like that? Are you out of your mind or just obnoxiously shallow?

If your view of 1 person validates all your view points, I also have my own. I have friends who sped through n2 land himself in Japan and graduate.

I have friends who also study Japanese for fun reaching N1, his reason is translated material is slow and inaccurate, he plainly using it for leisure.

As for myself i have completed N1 is relative short time. Just few months ago I join a new job direct deals with Japanese.
And you be dead wrong to think N1 is everything, the learning continues.

As for you. Pretending you are '' good' but you are actually just a weeboo with shallow mind started this useless commend of '' your concern others with N1 couldn't speak Japanese ''.

If u are to commend me, get to my level which is N1. Else keep your prejudice and shallow minded views to yourself.

If you are that butt hurt over your someone you know with N1 can't speak Japanese. Please bring your message directly to him.

Don't carry your pretentious view of knowing everything and put on a image all N1 learners are what you know off.

I have feelings, those ppl u know off , they just dislike u. They would rather hide their ability than to speak with a weeboo

What makes you think you are capable to comment others pitch accent where even your basic level is questionable.

*
And you think able to speak 2 sentences like a wee makes u superior?

I will soon be taking my N2, but I don't understand why you think that's relevant, especially when the question is targetted at specific people who are supposed to be high-level in Japanese, but for some reason when it comes to speaking it can be worse than an N5 person.
That depends. Are you really the person as I assumed you were? If so, then I'm right. If I'm not, then I'm wrong. It's really that simple. Also, what makes you think it's only 1 person?
Wow. What a waste to not even try speaking it.
Good! That is also what I'm planning as well. But are you as what I assumed you were? Also, why are you even so unwilling to speak Japanese even in here?
Nobody thinks the learning stops. In fact it's the opposite. We are the ones who are wondering why you never even bothered to learn how to speak in the first place.
That's the problem with you. Why do you think people are just "pretending"? Especially when they even wanted to try communicating in Japanese? Why are you people so against people who even want to practice communicating in Japanese?
But what exactly is YOUR level? Got all the way to N1, but can't speak a lick of Japanese, and thoroughly discourage others to speak Japanese? What kind of "LEVEL" is this? If you are kind of people REPRESENTING N1, then who wants and dares to be N1?
*
Go learn your n2 1st before acting like you mean something. As far as I know people who has nothing to show for, all talk is cheap

I think this thread is about ppl sharing what resources they use and experience how they come about the challenges they face.

Not here for you to project your own view and superiority.

Despite haven't even got N2. LOL

QUOTE(Hoka Nobasho @ Aug 3 2024, 12:23 PM)
Only YOU are thinking that people are "superior". When in fact people are just talking in Japanese to them, but extremely surprised because either they don't know how to respond, or completely refuse to respond.

For example, I have experience merely by simply reading out my phone number in Japanese to Malaysians. Some of them are okay, but there are others, EVEN WITH N1 LEVEL, suddenly tell me "don't use Japanese", I was like "YOU SOHAI ah???" You not N1 meh? Cannot understand numbers in Japanese meh?
*
And that's your experience? You are judging based on your narrow view?
You still don't see how arrogant you are.

Come talk to me again when you are N1, else I can also say I'm born with supernatural ability.

One thing for sure. No one likes anyone who thinks thry are better.

I have self learn from hiragana all the way to N1 myself. Without living in Japan, I was able to land myself a job that support Japanese on daily basis. Even I won't dare to claim I'm good, then there is you. Pointing others mistakes and.labeling everyone you know have n1 that dosent meet your abstract standard.

You won't even pass the interview without n2.

You are like those sitting infront of TV condemn X football player suck, but actually you just some ah beng who has opinion.
It almost sounds like u are jealous, like you are self justifying you are better than N1.

Don't reply to me. You want to prove to me? Go get N1, you want prove to yourself go take N1. Without a unified cert to proof, anyone can be anyone. Like you can self identify yourself as Japanese expert

Pffffffff.... That is even near being one with that attitude

If you got to N1, but can't even speak a lick of Japanese, or worse, don't even want to speak in Japanese, then it is your talk that is cheap, not others. Because others at least learn how to speak and encourage others to do so. But you go and do the opposite for what???

In caae your nitiwit brain still can't understand. I work for Japanese, therefore I have to speak. Japanese everyday.

Which section you see I implying I can't speak.
I was so surprised why this thread go necro, by someone somehow think I couldn't speak.

The impression is because you saw some N1 holder can't speak, therefore everyone is.

How arrogant can u be.

Now I know why you think ppl u know have N1 dosent know how to speak Japanese.
They actually know, but you just too obnoxious until they don't want speak with you. I feel the same too.

Are you serious? This is how I know you don't speak Japanese. Do you never use "って" to quote about something?

Your nuance of come across as a bit ambiguous because "で" instead of a direct quotation of "って" suggests a manner or condition rather than a direct quotation.

Are you sure you N1 なの???????
*
That's the problem you facing.
I don't even want to correct you.

You think you are correct. You don't even know what you don't know.
Go study la

And please don't keep useなの. That's ending for to bring feminism, use for girls 🤭
