guys, quick question before installation today..

the connection between the huawei ONT and the thomson is just a normal lan connection right?

if so i can always put the ont in one part of the house and...
1. pull a lan cable to the thomson, anywhere in the house?
2. connect them using home plugs?

any confirmation? would the homeplug work?

first time fibre user here. just thinking of ways to save on non-standard installation
*
Very good ideal if it does work, instead of paying rm200 to TM contractor, use the money for a pair of homeplug. rclxms.gif

sounds logical right?

a homeplug would just treat the connection between the ONT and the modem as a normal LAN connection yeah?

having said that, a pair of homeplugs would probably cost more than extending the fibre cable by 10 metres, for example..

Added on July 11, 2012, 10:22 am

which model? are you landed or highrise?  smile.gif

Homeplug is around rm160, non standard installation sure kena rm150 and up.
But avantage of homeplug is you can move the router any where you like in the house. (provided that it works)

Anyway, you better be sure, you dont want to end up the indoor fiber cable is cut too short and the homeplug option doesnt work.

The best is to pull the indoor fiber cable as far as standard installation allow and instal the router there. Only then you think about the homeplug option to move the router.

xDSL linestate down.

this always on my event log but my connection never disconnect. I think this not a problem.
*
If you stream youtube, you would not notice it because the speed is fast enough to buffer the 20 to 30 seconds downtime. Also if you are reading a stationary web page, you don't feel it too. But if you jump from pages to pages, you will notice the short DC.
I have plenty of "xDSL linestate down" in my log too, sometimes when I click on LYN thread link from another page, my firefox browser occasionally needs more than 10 sec to load up the page, sometime I have to refresh the loading. However in most instances, the browser can load a LYN page instantly within half second.

Do anyone experience disconnect problem? PPPoE shows connected, but unable to surf the net, have to reconnect again. It happens occasionally
*
Very common, it had been discussed at lenght in this thread. Browser keep loading a page. Spmetimes got to stop the loading and click refresh only then the page load up.

Damn, i thought maxis automatically alloted the free 150 minutes to my maxis mobile already.
As the matter of fact, no free minutes alloted to my maxis mobile account yet. I need to call them, ask them and the CS replied " i need to check with the Home department first".

150mins is a lot of savings!
*
I called CS yesterday, just now received call from CS that my 150min now assigned to my Maxis mobile effective today. rclxms.gif
If based on market average call rate of 10sen per min for on-net calls, the 600+150 free minutes is valued at Rm75 already.
If you are not a maxis mobile user, based on the average off-net call rate of 15sen/min, the 600 free minutes is worth Rm90 to you.

Once a while, I'm getting this speed over Wifi network (any MHF user here can better this ? tongue.gif).
However. while DL speed test, the meter needle was only hovers around 2 to 3 Mbps range for the 1st half of DL test process and then a sudden burst/spike of speed at the end. (Observe the yellow circle)

10 out of 10 tests, the speed test demonstrated the above behavior, spike of speed towards the end. Anyone can explain this ? hmm.gif

bro aeiou, please post the SNR margin value from ONT device (TM device) for our reference and comparison if you know how to access the ONT device.

I have read numerous overseas forum posting on this issue, and mostly point down the the noise coming carry by the t/phone line or from the server termination point.

By the way, which area are you staying and do you happen to know roughly how many Unifi/Maxis subscriber in yr area from the conversation with the TM/Maxis installer?
*
How to access ONT ?
SNR is the reading tm installer took during instalation ? My area i guess not many yet.

can you explain abit between homeplug and wireless repeater ? abit confused  rclxub.gif

Before you buy the expensive homeplug, you may want to consider this alternative solution with zero cost.
I solved the weak wifi signal problem with my redundant wifi router Linksys WRT54G previously used for Streamyx.
I just changed the Wireless setting of Linksys to AP mode and plug it LAN to LAN to Thomson.
Now I have 2 SSIDs, one from Linksys (stronger) and another from Thomson (weaker).
Speed test done indicated no different in speed and latency.
Thomson router performance dropped when too many wifi devices logged in at the same time so I hope Linksys can share the load and solve this problem too.

If want full signal even 2 houses away, buy this high gained USB Wifi adapter (if you are using PC or laptop).
I got one extra unit (in sealed box) to let go for RM50.

Hi guys,

I just fix my bb yesterday and that guy told me they need 24 hours to activate the phone. This morning about 20 hours later the Thomson light on phone 1 still not on.

Any1 faced this problem?
*
There is no such waiting time, mine worked on the spot.
The 24 hours wait was a lie to deceive you to sign the job sheet so that he can cabut and leave the problem to you and Maxis.

So we need to make sure the phone works before the TM & Maxis Engineer leaves the premise

If you sign the job sheet, you set them free and the responsibility is therefore transfer to you to follow up the blunder.

I did my installation yesterday too, and the phone is not activated, the installer did show me his email from his team leader saying that Maxis VOIP is currently down.

And until this morning, I still have no luck with the phone.
*
But my voip was working yesterday and this morning.

Went to maxis center to change my VoIP number, selected the only triple digit number left in the list. 03-A888BCCC.
The maxis guy wanted to charge me RM25 for the change but I told him 1st change is free then he checked something on his screen and said "ok, free."

wah good lah u,  but i got a shock thought it's monthly... thank god it's yearly... haha

is your connection performance better now with laptop cooler? do you still get xDSL linestate down?

btw, how about the "LOGIN wireless station [MAC address] can't get authorized."? do you still get the message? pls help to check

tq
*
I still get the two messages. With or without the cooler, the perfomance is the same with occasional unresponsive page loading.

Unifi also cannot though recently one salesperson said can...same excuse as the Maxis guy - "for a small fee of RM20, you can retain your old number" so I dunno can trust or not.
*
Actually "CAN". I've "done" that. whistling.gif
All Unifi and MHF agent has ready answer for this most frequently asked question "Can I retain my existing TM number ?"

Instead of saying "CAN NOT", they TWISTED THE WORDS and say "Can retain but need to pay RM26". Sounds better to lure you to signup immediately right ?

Only if you ask him further "RM26 is one time payment ?" Then he will tell you that you need to pay RM26 every month. Yet he still doesn't reveal to you that you are actually keeping you existing TM line with the standard monthly rental of RM26.

I still haven't cancel my TM home line, that's why I said "CAN RETAIN". tongue.gif
