LYNRers & LYNR FBers,

Effective immediately, I will no longer assign any new LYNR numbers to those frequenting this thread or LYNR FB. Reason being, we see no use for the numbers (at least not yet). U can still request to be LYNR FB member (no numbers will be assigned there as well) at the FB page thru the mods there. As for this thread, anybody can post anything related to this sport. The majority of the events (LSDs, races) will be posted at the FB page as well. Those who have already been assigned numbers will keep the number. This thread remains as a compliment to the LYNR FB.

Thank you.

nod.gif  nod.gif meaning if asking to join the FB group, we do not need to provide LYN number?..I do not have a LYN number, but hope to join the FB group to interact with fellow runners around malaysia. i'm fr east malaysia, i hope that is not a limitation to the FB membership..  smile.gif
*
Yup, if U wanna join the LYNR FB just apply to the mods there. I dun think we impose any area restrictions to those requesting to join. We even have a German among our members !!

May i know why you created the FB page when we hv the lyn forum here?
*
For starters, I didn't create the FB page.

We started here in LYN. After a while, the group becomes big & since FB is the more popular mode of communication, some of us decided to create the FB page. This thread remains for those who are denied access to FB (office especially). We also have a blog page. LYNR & LYNR FB does not compete with each other, rather, LYNR is a compliment to LYNR FB. Thru FB it's easier to post updates, events, invites, pictures of gathering, races, etc & also videos.

Pretty obvious ain't it ? doh.gif

dear sifus i just a started running/jogging few months
before this im just in to MTB,
my question is how do you run so fast?
i can only maintain a 7-8 minutes /KM
if i throttle up even a bit i start losing breath
i can go offroad riding 50KM no problem
but 5KM is like killing me
sometimes when i run
i see people running fast but breathing so relax
even at my current speed i m short of breath
any tips? advice?
PS:
btw in the exhilaration of completing my 1st 10km marathon (1:32:39 SCKLM)
i was poisoned to register for half marathon (bsn night putrajaya)
is it normal to bring along powergel during marathon?
*
Cycling & running, although both are endurance sport, are different in a lot of ways. Different muscles are involved, different requirements in terms of cardio fitness. So, even if U can ride 50km, it doesn't mean U can run 50km. 1 hr of running is a lot harder than 1 hr of riding. How runners become so fast ? The same way cyclists ride fast : train more at goal pace. Can U expect to maintain 40km/h for 30 mins when U've been training at 25km/h for 40 mins ? The same with running....in that sense both sport are pretty much the same..

It's normal to bring along gels for runs longer than an hour. Just bear in mind that runners will have difficulty consuming solid food during a race or training, unlike cycling. So gel is the fastest & easiest way to replenish Ur energy.

Tenno, I started riding lately. For now, I found that riding 20k is even tougher than running 20k for me, with elbow pain, back pain and ass pain  cry.gif

Definitely, practice makes perfect for everything.
*
Initially of course la... Ur body's trying to adapt to new activity, new positioning, new muscles tht's never been used before are called into action... for cyclists normally that would be Ur back, neck, knees... getting Ur position right is absolutely crucial...

I'm planning to get a bike maybe next year, then I can do duathlon... quite nervous & excited.. I've left the sport of cycling for more than 10 years edi...

Found an interesting long-distance bashing article. Read with an open-mind and treat it as a leisure reading article.

*
Actually, the article is correct.. but that depends on who reads it. A distance runner would be offended, no doubt. Somebody like me, stuck in between gaining muscles & the love of distance running, would try to find a balance between those two (sprinting vs. endurance). I've seen (& experienced) my muscles earned through hard weight sessions disappear becoz of distance training. & I believe that my slow progress in the muscles dept is due to the fact that I run too much. But tht's just how the body works... so U've gotta be clear about Ur goals... tht's it.

cycle for 60k+ is not a problem for me, but once finish cycle why my buttock line will pain?? the place i sit... sad.gif
*
Tht's a common problem even for experienced cyclists... Check Ur saddle la..proly need more padding... I rode for 10 yrs.. For the 1st 3-4 yrs I used a normal RM30 saddle which gave me saddle sore every time.... when I joined the Selangor team a senior gave me his old Selle Italia Turbo, which I used for a few years... then I switched to Selle Italia Flite Ti until I quit... the Flite Ti was the least problematic for me... I still get saddle sore whenever I returned to riding after a long break... we rode a minimum of 60-80km daily.. our long rides can stretch up to 120-140km... so after a while as Ur glute muscles become stronger, saddle sores will gradually disappear...

its abt investment if you are going to take cycling seriously and also looking at long distance cycling

1. a good saddle is a must as mentioned by Tenno.  No expertise in this area but u can ask ard.

2. a good cycling short.  my recommendation is DeSoto.  Sold many of this to my customers and got very good  feedback from them
*
DeSoto is mainly a triathlon brand... tri shorts are a bit different from pure cycling shorts becoz the chamois is thinner as a thick chamois will cause problems during the running leg. Pure cycling shorts have thicker chamois covering a wider area... during my time Nalini was one of the more famous brands, but our Sukma 96 uniform was made by Giessegi & I liked their shorts a lot, with one piece chamois... Trek is also good... Descente is obviously very good... there's more choice nowadays obviously... applying cream at the crotch area will help overcome saddle sore somewhat.. some ppl use Vaseline.. I used to use Johnson's baby cream... the diaper cream.. tongue.gif

Hey, guy. Just now I lepak at Pearl Point Shopping 2nd floor which got so call Adidas warehouse sales. I saw a very funny new design Adidas so call natural running shoes. I totally shock about it!! How come the design can make like this??  doh.gif

user posted image

By the way, I totally agree with some article say everyone is different, so we should find our own best running form. I just find out my running form is totally same as this "BareForm Running". smile.gif

1. Align the posture
2. MidFoot Strike
3. 180 Cadence

*
Bareform = barefoot.
Adipure's been in the market for quite sometime now & the design is not exactly revolutionary.. it's more similar to Merrell's design than VFF though... if U search this thread U'll see we've discussed barefoot/minimalist running before...& there's quite a number of LYNRs who are into this...

6 more days to my first ever HM, wooo nervous!

During race day, what are runners do/think when they are running? tongue.gif

Planning what to eat after the run?
Thinking of your partner who is still snoring in the bed?
Looking around finding your friends?
Doing Gangnam style?
*
I try not to think about the finish too much.... in fact...I've run like 15 HMs in the past 3 years... I dun really know what I was thinking during those races... tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

No la...

When I did my 1st 2 HMs in 2010 (PNM & Energizer) I think about the finish too much, how many kms to go... during 2010 Energizer, I thought the finish was like 3km...when in fact it was 5km... I was so demoralized my pace dropped drastically... from that day onwards, I vowed not to think about the finish in any races I took part in... & it actually works.. I tried to think about other things.. my son... my wife... Neelofa... ermmm....

Hey guys,

Any of you have experience using KT Tape or Rock Tape before? Is it good as a temporary solution for a mild runner's knee problem? Feeling reluctant to run with the knee guard coz of chafing.
*
I've used them for my calf problem & it works only if U know how to use them. Kinesio taping is not like normal sports tape strapping. It must be applied by a trained person, usually a physio. I got mine applied by a physio from ISN. According to my physio, kinesio taping can be applied for almost all kinds of injuries or muscular conditions. The one I used was Rock Tape.

That's why. I couldn't find any physio with experience using kinesio tapes around. Do you have any to recommend? The sports doc that I went and check said my patella had tracking issues. Quite worried abt taping it wrongly myself.
*
The only other sports clinic I've been to was the one in Subang (opposite Subang Parade)... Sports & Backcare Specialist I think the name... Most of the time my friend (the physio) would do it for me... why ? Ur sports doc can't do it for U ? Maybe U can ask him..

Actually Sports & Backcare is the centre I went to. But I talked to him abt the tape, he don't recommend it and said its mostly marketing. But for now, between the option of wearing a knee guard and tape, I wanna give taping a shot. Haih, susah sad.gif
*
Okay... I shud warn U & other runners who plans to go to this clinic... the doc there is a very experienced runner, but he's also very old school type. From my conversations with him, he was totally against the minimalist/barefoot movement, he said that heel strike is the best gait for long distance & now this... hmm.gif

wire one prefer in ear one, which doesnt fall down after affect by sweat and tahan one, good sound quality and no expensive.

i wan cheap, good quality, and nice one hahaha

We've had discussions about this before & somebody even posted images for the Senheiser models.

I used Philips for about 3 years before I decided to upgrade to Senheiser. It was like 5-6 times more expensive but it was worth it & I've been using it for about 3 years also... the tiny earhooks might seem abit unassuming at first, but it does a good job keeping the earphone in place, even during the hardest of intervals. But after 3 years the cables have begun to show signs of wear & tear, but the sound is still top notch..

Need advice on picking the right shoes.

Using Adidas Supernova Riot
Flat feet.
Weight 105kg
Average 5-6KM 4-5 times weekly

Conventional advice is flat footers should use support/stability shoes... yet the wear patterns on my Adidas and working shoes have heavy wear on the outer sole.

Do I actually underpronate as opposed to overpronate? rclxub.gif

Appreciate any thoughts and wisdom the Adidas are due for a replacement.

Picture of old shoe left side:-

[attachmentid=3069261]

Hoping to get a pair of Brooks at their Go-Green promotion.
http://brooksmalaysia.com/2012/08/31/brooks-go-green/
*
If Ur a flat footer & weigh that much (no offence), I believe U shud go for max support. But there are very few pure flat footer shoes in the Msian market, so U can go for support shoes la... for Brooks there's Trance. I was diagnosed as a flat footer, yet I land on my midfoot, so I could get away with Brooks Pure Cadence... & I've worn Newton's MV2 for half marathons... I'm pretty heavy too..

Thank you for the advice tenno and no worries none taken.

My weight is the reason for the daily jogs, so far I've gone down from 130kg to 105kg... considering the Trance and planning to visit their store to give it a spin.

Guess shoe wear pattern is not such a good indicator of pronation...  sweat.gif
*
Good job there.. rclxms.gif

Actually for Brooks, their flat footer shoe is Beast, but it's not available in Msia.. the closest U can get is Adrenaline GTS..now in series 12. I considered these 2 models actually, GTS 10 & Trance 9.. ended up with Trance becoz GTS support was a bit too much for me... but Trance 9 has been lying around becoz I dun use it really... what size do U use ? I can let it go for cheap, less than 150km used...bought August last year..

Is high arch and overpronation or underpronation related? Is there such a thing called high acrh + overpronation or high arch + underpronation?

Pronation is the alignment of Ur heel with Ur foot (or is it Ur foot with Ur heel?)... Those who underpronates will almost always have high arch... becoz the high arch will force Ur heel outside... I think so la... hmm.gif

Newbie seeking for advice ..

This Saturday going to have a 10km-marathon,

Breathe in and  out using nose or mouth ?

Is it alright if I wear normal school shoes to jog ?

Is it alright if I continue to jog even I'm already lacking of breath ? (Forcing myself)Will I faint or something ?

Any advice ? biggrin.gif
1. 10km is not a marathon
2. Breathe in whatever way U feel comfortable....as long as U breathe
3. Go ahead.. if got jogging shoes then U shud use it. Soldiers run 10-20K in army boots... Power shoes is enuff edi for 10K
4. If Ur gasping for air, starts to see doubles, the world spinning around U..then seek help from those around U.. & get help from the medics.. & stop. If Ur just gasping for air then I guess it's normal for a newbie.
